The significance of the public library, especially in mass literacy and in informing people regarding the nation and government is beyond dispute. Nevertheless, what if there exists the least communication between society and the library? While government (both central and state) is so committed about accomplishing goals of public welfare, why still basic illiteracy clings to village people? Is there a major breach between govt. institutions and their public reach? Most importantly, how much the local student fraternity are aware of or access public library? To investigate few such issues, A field research was conducted on few villages at the vicinity of Varanasi. Bhatt","doi":"10.5958/0976-2469.2021.00002.6","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5958/0976-2469.2021.00002.6","url":null,"abstract":"The study examines bibliographic data of 1442 and 1459 physics research publications published by the Department of Physics of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Institute of Physics (IOP), India respectively, indexed by the Web of Science database during 2015–2019. The findings indicate that the number of publications grew during the period under study in an inconsistent way. It was found that the physicists from IISc and IOP preferred to publish their research findings in journals published from the developed nations. Publications by authors from IOP were cited more than that of IISc. The public library besides being a physical space also needs to be at a virtual space by adapting to new communication technologies and offering digital information. This study tries to describe the information needs of faculty members in the discipline of Hindi in various colleges of University of Delhi. For the purpose of the study, a survey method was used. Data were collected by using questionnaire and interview methods from 96 faculty members of various colleges of University of Delhi. This study discusses about frequency of visit to the library, purpose of use of library and to assess their information needs with regard to the different types of sources and services used by them and it also tries to bring out the problems they face during the search for information. Most of the cited journals were published from the advanced countries of the West and 60 cited references were to Indian journals. The journals originating from the US topped the list of cited articles. Scholars cited the current literature and Bradford's law of scattering hold good for the list of cited references with only two journals constituting the core. Based on the analysis top five websites are identified. The main purpose of this paper is to guide the librarians in improving their library websites.
