Though the moving speed of the MH actuator is slow, this actuator is a suitable as a power source for rehabilitation or assistive devices. Prototype assistive devices using the MH actuator were reported, such as a wheelchair with a seat lifter and a robotic transfer aid to assist sit-to-stand motion. The main characteristic of the MH actuator includes a heat drive. This allows the MH actuator to be driven by surplus heat present in the surrounding environment. When only a high-temperature heat source is available, the surplus heat drive of the MH actuator requires rapid hydrogen absorbing to the MH alloy. This paper describes the means to improve the hydrogen absorption characteristics of the MH alloys. Three compositions of MH alloys were tested. One of these alloys obtained sufficient hydrogen absorption under natural cooling of the MH module. This means that the surplus heat source provides repeating absorption and release of hydrogen on the MH alloy. Maintaining this cycle forms an MH air compressor in which the air pressure is produced by converting the hydrogen pressure in the MH actuator. The advantages of this air compressor are that the small size and easily altered shape have the potential for the realization of unprecedented assistive technology devices for persons with disabilities.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114608916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flow can not be measured near bended pipe region due to turbulence of fluid. So, it needs to find other methods to estimate the flow. In this paper, we propose flow estimation method using genetic algorithm (GA) and neural network (NN). Parallel driven pumps are modeled using NN and the weights of NN are learned from GA through fitness evaluation. Fitness functions are defined by average value of errors between measured flow values of main pipe and estimated values of it. Max/min value of each pump's flow is constrained in order to reduce search space of GA and to raise precision of estimation. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm is proven through experiments.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116894091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, based on the quantity discount contracts, the electricity supply chain coordination model is proposed. The model makes the rational decision-making of individual members in the supply chain to achieve the optimal overall performance. With satisfying the power transmission network constraints, the model couples the optimal decision-making of fuel enterprises, power generation enterprises, customers and independent system operator by the quantity discount contracts of fuel procurement prices. Mathematically, it is represented by the multi-layer optimization with the equality and inequality constraints. By using the non-linear complementary function method, the electricity supply chain coordination model is transferred into a set of non-linear algebraic equations, and then the value of quantity discount is obtained which make the individual decision-making achieve optimal supply chain performance.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117104258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique exploits the imperceptibility of human auditory and visual systems at low levels of spectral changes. By selectively altering the spectrum at a pair of one-dimensional frequencies by a small percentage of the average power of a segment of audio or image, the psychoacoustical or psychovisual masking property enables unnoticeable embedding with a large payload. Initial studies on the effect of Gaussian noise added to the stego demonstrate the robustness of the technique to noise in both the stego audio and image. The imperceptibility of the technique combined with high payload, robustness of embedded data and accurate data retrieval renders the proposed steganography suitable for covert communication and secure data transmission applications.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129747058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In previous publications, we have shown how a continuous set of orientations can be represented as a positive definiteness test on a given matrix. This allows us to cast the problem into a convex optimisation problem where the optimal orientation for each time step is to be found. The orientation which allows the manipulator to follow a given path as fast as possible and with constant speed is considered the optimal orientation. In this paper we show how to solve this problem for every time step. The solution is computationally fast and can be implemented in real time. Numerical examples are presented to verify the efficiency of the approach.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128239736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Publishers rely on the online revenue generated from advertising to offer many free services. However, it has become evident that online advertisements are now becoming quite intrusive and also consume a lot of valuable bandwidth to download zero-caching ads and flash or video ads. As a result many users are now using ad-blocking software to make their Internet surfing more enjoyable. The main contribution of this paper is as follows - it attempts to identify the main reasons why internet users want to block online ads; it also critically evaluates several existing ad-blocking techniques and conducts an experiment to measure the amount of bandwidth used by online advertisements relative to the actual content. The paper concludes by outlining future research directions.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127207830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first goal is to design the network subsystems in order to obtain optimal devices from a weight point of view. The contribution of optimal linear multivariable control methods is shown to be major for this first design objective and H∞ synthesis is applied in this paper. The second design objective is that the devices exhibit an adequate dynamical behavior when integrated into the DC network. But during design phases, the aircraft subsystems providers generally do not know the parameters of the DC network. To guarantee an easy integration of the subsystems, the device design should be robust to DC network uncertainties. Robust performance analysis method is applied in this paper and is integrated in the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":405687,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132088216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
