However, a review of the preserved manuscripts allows us to note remarkabledifferences from the Latin model as well as among the Catalan manuscripts. In this work we take as a basis the manuscriptE (ms. N-III-5, Madrid, Real Biblioteca del Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial) to analyse structural, editorialand textual changes in the Catalan compilation: structural changes, such as those related to the arrangement of chapters;editorial changes, such as the deletion of extensive fragments in some chapters or the replacement of the version of achapter with another one other than that by Voragine; and textual changes, such as the variants that characterize the twobranches into which the translation evolves. These changes allow us to characterize the formation and the evolution of thiscompilation. We take as a point of reference manuscript E, representative of one of the two branches of the translation,in contrast with P (ms. Espagnol 44, Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France), representative of the other. In E thereare important internal differences in the wording of each chapter and differences with respect to the other preservedmanuscripts. In some chapters, the wording of E is very different from that of P, with a less literal version of the Latin text,a wording that will serve as a model for the later print tradition. Editing this compilation based on manuscript E involvestaking into account the rest of the preserved manuscript evidence, as well as the Latin text, in addition to considering thechapters added in this manuscript.","PeriodicalId":40390,"journal":{"name":"Magnificat Cultura i Literatura Medievals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138594531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research has previously focused, mainly, on the presence within these texts of lists bearing witness to the degree of a given set of instruments’ dissemination, though lists represent only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the wealth of musical information brought together in this kind of text. This article analyses a number of quotations referring to musical instruments as found in Catalan vernacular translations of the Bible, and focuses on their presence within two interconnected works, namely, Isabel de Villena’s Vita Christi and Joan Roís de Corella’s Lo cartoixà, the latter being the translation of one of the former’s principal sources. It thus becomes possible to see how different translators and different authors treat the Holy Scripture and how the instruments’ terminology is adapted to different ends. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":40390,"journal":{"name":"Magnificat Cultura i Literatura Medievals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138596520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This poem has already been analysed by Ian Macpherson, but I take his analysis further and identify the lady and her sixth suitor and offer a more exact timeframe for its composition. I also identify this lady as one of the court ladies satirised as a prostitute in the anonymous and highly obscene Carajicomedia and discuss her Jewish converso relatives.","PeriodicalId":40390,"journal":{"name":"Magnificat Cultura i Literatura Medievals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45342119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extant text is incomplete and rather corrupted, but it has great interest from the point of view of literary history for several reasons: firstly, it is the only witness to Sist's literary activity, which was known despite the fact that no piece seemed to have survived. Secondly, it is the first composition dedicated to Blanca, queen consort of Sicily and later queen of Navarre. The author's identification and the rubric allows me to propose a specific event as the ocasion that originated this song: the royal entry into the city of València of the monarch Martí I of Aragon, queen Maria de Luna and their new daughter-in-law, Blanca of Navarre, on 30th March 1402. For this event, the first public presentation of the queen of Sicily, second wife of Martí el Jove, Joan Sist composed a conventional song of praise, borrowing from the song also intended for the queen of Sicily, probably her predecessor on the trone Maria, by Andreu Febrer.","PeriodicalId":40390,"journal":{"name":"Magnificat Cultura i Literatura Medievals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44284635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
