The choice of which programs to record depends on (¿) the scores assigned to the programs by the recommender, (ii) the times and channels at which the programs are broadcast, and (Hi) the number of tuners available for recording. For a given set S of n programs that are broadcast in a given time interval, and a given number m of tuners, we consider the problem of determining a subset S' ⊆ S of programs with a maximum sum of scores that can be recorded with the m tuners. We show that this problem can be formulated as a min-cost flow problem and can be solved to optimality in O(mn2) time. In addition, we indicate how the min-cost flow approach can be adapted to take into account practical considerations such as uncertainties in the actual broadcast times of programs and programs that are broadcast multiple times in the given time interval. We present experimental results that suggest that, for realistic settings, near-optimal subsets can be determined on low-cost hardware.","PeriodicalId":403652,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE 2010)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123041382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead of the traditional cellular system, the multihop cellular network for executing their data transmission can potentially augment coverage, data rates, and quality of service (QoS) performance. However, in the multiuser environment the multihop cellular system has a competition problem among users so that fair spectrum usage for all users becomes an important index of QoS. On the other hand, the system overloading matter of RSs may cause a system malfunction. In this paper, the RS overloading problem is considered, and we propose an adaptive fair spectrum usage algorithm for enhancing capacity and QoS of multiuser OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) multihop cellular systems. Furthermore, an overloading cancellation algorithm also presented to cope with the RS overloading problem.","PeriodicalId":403652,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE 2010)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124051375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We reduce only unnecessary computations which doesn't affect predicted images from the motion vector. To do that, we use normalized dithering matching scan to get uniform distribution of partial distortion by which we can reduce only unnecessary computation significantly. Additionally, we remove unlike candidate vectors faster by using multiply of LOG value to threshold of matching error. Additionally, we further reduce unnecessary computation for motion estimation according to distribution of motion vectors. Our algorithm reduces about 60% of computations for block matching error compared with the conventional PDE (partial distortion elimination) algorithm almost without degradation of prediction quality.","PeriodicalId":403652,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE 2010)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128396577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This introduces several new challenges, e.g., for provisioning of healthcare. Many research projects try to address some of the upcoming technical issues. In this paper we delineate the integration of a complex OSGi-based “Multi-Services-Home-Platform (MSHP)”, designed for versatile healthcare and monitoring issues in a domestic area, and a common Small Office / Home Office (SOHO) broadband access router. Besides the presentation of several use cases to explain the functional requirements of the platform, a closer look on the technical requirements is provided. Many of the features and interfaces a MHSP requires are already present on modern router platforms and with growing processing capacity of embedded systems even the demand of heavier computation jobs can be manageable. In such modular systems, based on standard hard- and software, current techniques and research topics like Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) or “new” protocols like IPv6 can easily be implemented and brought to the end-user, by combining the worlds of healthcare and consumer Internet access in one platform.","PeriodicalId":403652,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE 2010)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122509463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, transformed coefficients after quantization are represented with nonzero coefficients and their locations (or patterns) in a block. The compression of coefficient patterns was often done with run-length coding, which is also the case in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. In this paper, we propose a new method to compress the coefficient patterns adaptively on the frame-basis. In the proposed method, we first categorize all possible coefficient patterns (i.e., 216 −1 = 65535 for 4×4 transform in AVC) into 16 different classes based on the number of nonzero coefficients in a block. The proposed method exploits the fact that the coefficient patterns have strong correlation depending on the video sequence and quantization parameter. The probability of each coefficient pattern is updated after encoding each frame, which is then used to generate a new variable length code of the pattern for the next frame. Experimental results show that the proposed method can provide up to 9.4% bit saving over MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 baseline profile encoder.","PeriodicalId":403652,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE 2010)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130565588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
