TV channel scanning for incumbent detection is crucial for operation in the TV band and we propose IEs (Information Element) that assist an AP (Access Point) in delegating channel scanning operation to the associated STAs (STAtion) so that it is always available for remedial action if an incumbent arrives on the channel on which the BSS (Basic Service Set) is operational. Also, TV channels are of 6 MHz width and we propose IEs that assist in channel bonding negotiations between two Wi-Fi devices operating in the TV spectrum. The connection of such devices with vehicles is still tedious. This paper presents an advanced methodology of coupling mobile devices with vehicles based on a distributed service architecture. Services from different mobile devices are combined with services provided by the vehicle itself to form a distributed entertainment platform. In this distributed platform, the driver can control services available on the mobile devices by the optimized human machine interface of the vehicle. At the same time the software and service architecture presented allows mobile devices in the car to use and control the elements of such a distributed service platform. Such access is achieved by dynamically exporting the vehicle's control and service interfaces in such a way that they can be used by handhelds coupled to the vehicle. The paper starts with a description of the reasoning behind our research. It then describes the used service-oriented approach, where the focus lies on the coupling mechanisms used to integrate mobile devices into the vehicle. We consider minimum mean square error (MMSE) linear detectors based on (i) explicit matrix inversion, and (ii) adaptive gradient algorithm. We present the average achievable data rates as a function of different mobile terminal speeds, using the Jakes model, with symbol-by-symbol temporal variations. Mean and cell-edge rates are determined using two-dimensional multi-cell model. The LTE-specific reference signal (i.e., pilot) arrangements are considered. In addition, the implementation complexity is analyzed. At the expense of higher implementation complexity, for higher mobile terminal speeds and signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SLNR) the detector based on explicit matrix inversion outperforms the one based on the adaptive gradient algorithm. Furthermore, we show that a corresponding single-input multiple-output (SIMO) solution outperforms MIMO for moderate and high mobile terminal speeds. In addition, complexity-wise the SIMO transmission is shown to be more efficient. The results indicate that the MIMO transmission with linear detection should be applied only in a very limited number of channel conditions: (i) high SINR, and (ii) low mobility. That is, the objects located in-front-of or behind the focus of the camera are blurred. Everywhere-in-focus images can be obtained by combining focused regions of images which were captured by different focal settings. In this paper, an optimal region based spatial domain image fusion approach based on selecting sharper regions from the multi-focus source images is proposed. Size of the block type regions are optimized by using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The main advantage of SVC is that it can provide scalability for visual services which are serving customers with heterogeneous network conditions and terminals' capabilities. Nevertheless, the multimedia service research community and industry have not been able to fully utilize the entire potential of this video coding standard extension. One important reason is because of the lack of an evaluation tool-set and platform widely available for usage in the designing, evaluating as well as deploying processes of SVC-based visual services. EvalSVC aims to fill this gap and fosters SVC-based applications and research in multimedia services. It is capable of evaluating the enhanced features (such as spatial, temporal, SNR, and combined scalability) of SVC bit-streams transmitting over real or simulated networks. This study designs a novel framework finding the best route with respect to efficiency and fairness among road-side units. The introduced algorithm exploits both position data and load to make routing decisions optimally. The proposed coarse CFR scheme employs a modified Mengali and Morelli (M&M) algorithm and recovers a coarse carrier frequency offset (CFO) accurately. After coarse CFR, a fine CFR scheme that employs a simple pilot block correlation algorithm recovers a residual CFO. The proposed scheme shows a bit error rate (BER) performance that is almost the same as the conventional scheme, and reduces the hardware complexity. Motivated by the current analog-to-digital sampling shortcomings of Software Defined Radio (SDR) schemes, our alternate modular, adaptive and ready-to-market channelizing solution is based on β interconnected modules, each capable to manage α TV channels through the concatenation of a direct IF (intermediate frequency) down-conversion, an adaptive channelizer/dechannelizer and a direct IF up-converter. A Channel Management Unit (CMU) is further added to the setup in order to receive, sense, intelligently add/delete channels and retransmit UHF-TV channels.
