The poem was considered a breakthrough in Ukrainian literature, not only because it was written in lively Ukrainian language, but, thanks to the author’s fascination with the folk culture and artistic traditions of previous eras, it also constituted a link between old and new Ukrainian literature. The aim of this article is to investigate the types of translation strategies used by Piotr Kupryś in the translation of Eneyida, especially those concerning paremic elements that are heavily influenced by cultural connotations. The analysis shows that Kotlarewski introduced existing proverbs, and also introduced new ones by processing others. In the Polish translation, Kupryś was not only obliged to preserve the content of the proverbs, but also to reproduce the plasticity of the images on which they were built. The techniques most widely used in his translation include domestication, exotication and tracing. It seems that the translator did manage to extract the meaning of the proverbs; he did not, however, always preserve their expressive and stylistic value, which was the basic element of building the satirical effect of the poem. The problem of the binding of a legal act might seem irrelevant from the point of view of translation. This is so because the descriptive layer of a message does not change depending on whether a given norm enters into force or not, or whether it loses its binding power or not. However, the sender of a message in legal language does not send a message devoid of information concerning legal binding. The latter is the main constitutive element of every message sent in legal language, which in turn results in communication based on presupposition. The notion of the thriller is considered and attention is paid to the problem of the definition of the term itself and the fact that some researchers do not treat the thriller as a genre at all. The thriller, associated by the Soviet decision-makers with Western culture (and thus also American), was perceived as a bourgeois creation, which made it an undesirable genre in the Soviet Union. Nevertheless, for many years immediately after the end of World War II and at the very end of the existence of the historical empire, a series of films were created and they could be called thrillers in the general modern sense of the word. Titles of Soviet films created in the years 1947–1991 have been chosen from the rich resources of cinematography of our eastern neighbours. At the cinema historian’s workshop, there were both images of well-known and popular Soviet directors (Boris Barnet, Stanisław Goworouchin, Eldar Riazanow), as well as slightly less known personalities, (Gieorgij Nikulin, Boris Durow).","PeriodicalId":403626,"journal":{"name":"Acta Polono-Ruthenica","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114796531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Polish people were involved in implementing his plans for reform. Duke Adam Jerzy Czartoryski and count Seweryn Potocki were among them. As a the result of the Tsar’s reforms, the internal organization of the Russian Empire changed diametrically. Education was the best example of such adjustments. The Tsar appointed Czartoryski and Potocki as ‘geheimrats’; they were his close cooperators and took part in carrying out the reforms. Czartoryski became a father figure to Alexander I. The Tsar respected his opinions, which influenced the policy direction. During the Napoleonic Wars Czartoryski was especially at the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This correspondence has preserved not only the biographical facts of the private life of both writers, but also a wide social and historical context. Jerzy Stempowski, son of Stanisław Stempowski and author of the novel The Adventures of a Thinking Man was the long-term life partner of Maria Dąbrowska in the Forties, and the two also became intellectual partners.
