Particular attention is paid to the writer’s life in Grodno and his friendship with A. Karpiuk, an artist born in Straszewo in the Bialystok region, the author of many works describing the reality of the borderland of north-eastern Poland. A. Karpiuk truly describes twenty-two years shared with his friend in Grodno, in a period unfavorable for rebellious writers. The writer shows the personality of Bykow, focuses on the socio-political aspect of life in the second half of the twentieth century, but tactically ignores the private sphere. A. At the beginning of the 1930s, only one account about Artek, by Michał Suryc, appeared on the Polish publishing market. From the second half of the 1940s, when the communist Polish authorities began intense Stalinization, the press was enthusiastically reporting the next batch of Polish children spending wonderful and unforgettable moments in the Crimea. The artist’s films have received numerous reviews and comments both in specialist and popular press, as well as on the Internet. The younger generation have been able to get acquainted with Czuchraj’s films thanks to the DVD collection. The author emphasizes the “fuzziness of the theme,” speaks about the complexity of its definition, as well of ambigious understanding in various socio-historical periods. Spirituality as an eternal topic of fiction is discussed on the example of the novel by Evgenе Vodolazkin Lavr. Lavr – is a hagiographic novel, which describes the life and spiritual path of the doctor in Medieval Russia. These are erroneous wordings which create the impression of being correct, since they constitute existing words, in wording and form, similar to the original ones, but which nevertheless alter the meaning of the text. The article presents mechanisms of occurrence of such errors and also shows that modification of meaning caused by erroneous writing could have different degree. The contribution of the writer’s consciousness to the development of error was taken into account in the research. The writer is considered a classic of Belarusian literature. In his artistic work, three basic types of heroes can be distinguished: inhabitants of villages, city dwellers and writers. The presentation of often difficult family relations, differences in characters and life priorities of the heroes become for A. Fiedarenka a pretext for deliberations on the subject of contemporary man’s life, his attitude towards people and nature. In his stories, the writer presents primarily people disappointed with life, lonely, seeking the sense of existence in contact with nature. {"title":"Z historii polskich przekładów powieści Doktor Żywago Borysa Pasternaka (na podstawie korespondencji Jerzego Giedroycia i Gustawa Herlinga-Grudzińskiego oraz Jerzego Stempowskiego i Marii Dąbrowskiej)","authors":"Iwona Anna Ndiaye","doi":"10.31648/APR.2533","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31648/APR.2533","url":null,"abstract":"This article recalls the circumstances of the first edition of the novel by Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago, in Polish translation, which appeared in 1959 in volume XLIV of the Biblioteka ‟Kultury” series, published by the Paris Literary Institute. Reconstruction of the history of this publishing initiative in the context of the political situation is possible thanks to historical sources preserved in the Paris and Warsaw archives, publications in periodicals, memoirs and epistolary culture. The circumstances in which the typescript was imported to Poland and in which the Literary Institute obtained a license for a Polish translation, the choice of translator, and Jerzy Giedroyc and Gustaw Herling-Grudziński’s correspondence are discussed. An important source of information is the lively correspondence between Maria Dąbrowska and Jerzy Stempowski, the son of a publicist and social activist, and Mason Stanisław Stempowski, a longtime life partner of the writer. The fragments of epistolary culture discussed here allow a better understanding of these outstanding individuals of the twentieth century. The titles analyzed show two strategies: adaptation and exotisation. However, they did not show a clear connection between the translation strategy and the degree of linguistic similarity since there was no clear dominance of exotisation in the German versions, considered to be the closest to the original.
