That enables them to employ advanced test strategies requiring special conditions of the grid. In the paper methods and equipment for on-line testing of analog and digital measurement channels of protection relays have been presented. During the test all protection functions of the device are active like during the normal work. Moreover no special hardware is installed inside the protection relay. The methods enable to reveal subtle changes in the measurement channel circuitry frequency characteristic caused for instance by an aging capacitor.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123576350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The practical utilization of supercapacitors requires suitable power converters for the regulation of power flows between the catenary and the electrical drives of the power-train. These converters operate in DC current and have to be bi-directional in order to allow the charge and discharge of supercapacitors. The mathematical model of the whole electrical drive has been developed and the main features of the control strategy have been presented. The control is capable of limiting the peak currents of the contact line and recovering partially the kinetic energy of the train during the braking periods. Simulations prove that the suggested control strategy is very effective for both purposes. Experimental tests made on a scaled prototype, representing the translating masses of a train, fully confirm the results of the simulations.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125555527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This hybrid uninterruptible power supply system achieves an auxiliary source of energy supply from photovoltaic modules, which operates in case of blackouts by providing a set of loads determined by the continuity of service during the absence of power supplied by the AC network. The proposed system is mainly designed for the field of home appliances. The proposed solution is based on a stand-alone photovoltaic system with a conventional UPS. A key role is played by an intelligent control strategy that handles both the charge of a suitable stack of batteries and the electrical loads connected to UPS. UPS enables loads to be supplied by assigning them an index of priority established by the operator, depending on their importance or safety.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129452680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The R&D activity was planned to evaluate the BOS (Balance Of System) performance and reliability as well as the PV modules behavior under the hard marine environment conditions (salt atmosphere, corrosion etc.). Because the thin film performance depends strongly on the rate of degradation over time, many data regarding both meteorological (irradiance, temperature, wind) and functional parameters (voltage, current, power, etc.) have been collected with the aim to gain useful knowledge on the medium and long term PV plants performances.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129641875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the research the potential for electricity capacity and electricity production where wood is used as fuel, was calculated. The electricity production costs were evaluated for two possibilities of producing electricity from wood: for wood-fired cogeneration plants and for oil shale plants with oil shale and wood co-firing process. The options of wood utilisation were compared with the reference case when the electricity is produced using only one type of fuel - the oil shale.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121326163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective function is to minimize the total cost of the active power generated by the DG units. The optimization problem is subject to system constraints consisting of voltage limits, feeder capability limits, generation-demand balance, active and reactive of the distributed generation units limits. The problem is considered as an optimal power flow (OPF) problem and solved by particle swarm optimization. The performance of the proposed technique is demonstrated by practical distribution system of Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Thailand. The study results show that the optimal dispatch schedule of the distributed generation can gives the minimum total cost of generation while satisfying all the constraints and benefiting greatly from savings in power loss reduction.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116868615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The full-scale power converter comprises two three-phase voltage source converters controlled by a rotor field oriented control and by a voltage oriented control, requiring both strategies a modulation technique. The system performance is evaluated by comparing the hysteresis current control with the space vector modulation technique, considering single power switch open-circuit faults in each power converter. In order to compare the drive performance, some key parameters are analyzed, such as the current rms and distortion values, power factor, dc link voltage and electromagnetic torque oscillation, and the overall drive efficiency. Simulation results under three distinct operating conditions are presented.","PeriodicalId":403158,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128223701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
