We consider a transmission protocol for a multihop wireless network that does not restrict its transmission range within one hop. In the crosslayer design approach, we adopt diversity gain in the physical layer, automatic request for retransmission (ARQ) in the data-link layer and optimal number of hops in the network layer. We focus on the optimal transmission-rate and minimum number of hops of a linear multihop network. An optimal automatic request for cooperation (ARC) based multihop protocol is proposed to maximize the end-to-end throughput and minimize the number of retransmission. In this optimal protocol, all succeeding relays of a transmitting terminal require to receive the packet and send feedback. Although it gives the optimal performance, the implementation complexity of such protocol is very high. To achieve a good complexity-performance tradeoff, a K-hop ARC based multihop protocol is further proposed, where only the K succeeding relay nodes receive the transmitted packet and send feedback. Simulation results are provided to show that the proposed protocols outperform the conventional multihop protocol and the multihop diversity protocol in terms of end-to-end throughput.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117308474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A statistical approach is taken to accurately model the acquisition phase with fast fading. Using this statistical approach, the main performance criteria for the acquisition phase namely probabilities of detection and failure are derived analytically. The analytical derivation results are then compared to the simulation results with close agreement. It is found that the model developed is accurate in describing the behavior and performance of the acquisition phase in the presence of fast fading.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115103649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the infrastructure mode of IEEE 802.11, wireless terminals, or stations (STAs), share one access point (AP). Since TCP congestion control increases the congestion window size until packet loss occurs, TCP communication takes excessive bandwidth from other communications. Then, TCP communication affect the communication quality of the other STAs which share the same AP. Especially, the communication quality for real-time applications such as video streaming becomes worse. In order to solve this problem, our method estimates the channel occupancy of the wireless LAN and adjusts TCP window size so as not to affect the other communications. When an STA simultaneously makes a real-time UDP communication and a background TCP communication, the proposed method controls the window size without taking bandwidth from the UDP communication. We have evaluated the proposed method by computer simulation experiments and show that the proposed method makes it possible to improve the communication quality of the real-time UDP communication.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127866714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since sensor nodes are very much constrained in power supply, extending lifetime of these sensors is essential. On the other hand, it is difficult to provide reliable data transfer in WSNs because of their unreliable link quality and congestion at a cluster head (CH) node. CHs perform the crucial inter-cluster communication task for WSN. However, extreme use of energy due to relaying multi-hop data traffic leads to sudden death of a CH node. Existing routing protocols usually utilize minimum hop count or energy consumption path for inter-cluster path selection; consequently, they ignore the reliability in the routing process. In this paper, we have proposed an optimal inter-cluster routing technique considering both energy consumption and reliability. Reliability is measured in terms of link quality and congestion that mainly introduce data loss. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed technique has improved both network lifetime and reliability significantly compared with the contemporary cluster based routing techniques.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125109085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An inherent problem lies in the route discovery mechanism of routing protocols, most of which rely on some form of flooding to search for routes and disseminate topology information. Clustering has been identified as one of the approaches to improve routing protocols' scalability and can prove to be useful provided the additional overheads incurred by the clustering management do not negate the gains in the reduction of routing overheads. In this paper, we present an extension of a typical MANET routing protocol that integrates an adaptive clustering mechanism and show that it is able to significantly reduce the communications overheads of routing protocols, thus paving the way for greater scalability.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129494608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We are now able to develop and process parallelised software applications within a modern high-level programming environment. Based on JNI2, a universal and adaptable interface was realised. Thereby, MPI2Java uses the performance-optimised C libraries of MPI to ensure an efficient parallelisation process. Furthermore, the approach supports both 32bit and 64bit hardware platforms. Accordingly, the interface concept offers innovative possibilities in the domain of HPC3 scenarios. A detailed performance analysis with latency and throughput measurements on a parallel computer cluster evaluates the advantages of the proposed interface concept. Based on a massive parallel network simulator for mobile Ad Hoc and sensor topologies - the SimANet framework [3, 4] - additional application scenarios demonstrate the practical capability of MPI2Java in comparison to related MPI implementations for Java.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"293 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129271130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its performance deteriorates rapidly when noise power is fluctuating. In order to solve this problem, several autocorrelation based detection methods such as statistical covariances based (CAV) detection method and eigenvalue based (MME) detection method have been proposed. However, CAV detector is derived based on the assumption the noise is real and MME detector on the other hand is a little conservative. In this paper, two novel autocorrelation based spectrum sensing methods, which are correlation coefficients (CCE) based detection method and nonparametric autocorrelation (NAC) based detection method, have been proposed. CCE detector is suitable for complex Gaussian noise and NAC detector can distinguish correlated signals from arbitrary independent noise without knowing the noise type. Both CCE detector and NAC detector are also nonparametric. Simulation experiments are provided to show the validity of the proposed CCE detector and NAC detector.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128838933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two approaches were tried to remove congestion, and the experimental results clarified that the approaches could remove congestion by adding a lightpath automatically or adding a static bypass route automatically. The degraded throughput was recovered within a recovery time specified by the SLA. As a result, the static bypass route approach can provide fine granularity adjustment of traffic to be switched without lightpath reconfiguration, and the lightpath adding approach can provide effective adjustment of larger traffic than in the static bypass route approach.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114345291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper considers for the first time multi-service systems in which each single traffic source can generate calls of different traffic classes, i.e. the multi-service systems with multi-service sources. To date only the models assuming that a single source of given class generates always only calls of this class, i.e. the multi-service systems with single-service sources, have been considered in teletraffic literature. The proposed algorithm makes it possible to determine occupancy distribution as well as blocking and loss probability for calls of particular traffic classes. In order to assure completeness of considerations the systems with both finite and infinite traffic sources are considered. The results of analytical modeling of the systems with multi-service sources are compared with simulation data.
