In order to preclude the affection of instantaneous channel variation, the DIPA is designed to operate in large time scale (or super-frame) based on the long-term average channel condition, as opposed to the user scheduling which is done in short time scale (or frame) based on the short-term instantaneous channel condition. In addition, to reflect the channel conditions of the multiple users, the DIPA is designed to determine the power allocation preferred by each user individually by using a simplified version of the water-filling scheme and then incorporate the individual power allocations into one policy. According to computer simulations the DIPA algorithm turns out to improve both the cell throughput and cell-boundary users' throughput, and increase the performance gain in the practical systems having irregular cell configuration.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"30 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116430656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To enable TCP to operate effectively over wireless networks, a number of reliability techniques such as Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) are used. These provide reliability at the expense of increased overheads. This study provides experimental results of a new distributed Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) called D-Proxy. This proxy can provide reliability to wireless links with minimal overhead. The results show that D-Proxy can provide near-optimal performance in the presence of high loss rates. It is suggested that D-Proxy could be used to replace current ARQ mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130738493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most previous studies model UDs to be distributed in a Poisson point process outside the protection regions. However, for such systems the distribution of aggregate interference at the primary system cannot be determined and therefore, approximate distributions have been used. Previous studies however, do not analyse whether these approximations lead to underestimation or overestimation of the required size of the protection regions, which in turn causes uncertainty in the safety of the primary system. In this paper, we use lognormal and shifted-lognormal approximations for the distribution of interference, and obtain approximate sizes of the protection regions required to limit the probability of outage of the primary system to specified values. We obtain the exact protection region sizes from Monte Carlo simulations, and compare them with the approximated values, analysing their accuracy and their ability to overestimate protection regions, rather than underestimating. A single one of the two approximations is not suitable to use over the entire range of system parameters considered in this paper. We develop a novel practical approach that uses both the approximations to always generate overestimated protection regions and therefore always keeps the primary system safe.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"221 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132066962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also considered as the PHY and MAC technology for Wireless Sensor Networks, which can be widely used for sensing, gathering and operating information in future smart cities. In Jan. 2009, the 802.15.4c amendment was approved to address the Chinese regulatory changes which have opened new bands for Wireless PAN using within China. However, the urban environments' impacts over its performance in the new band are still not clear. We demonstrate the viability of using IEEE 802.15.4c in urban scenarios by a series of real field experiments and result analysis. Results show that at 4dBm transmission power over 780MHz channel and with typical antenna setups, the effective transmission range is 200 meters in open scenario, 60 and 40 meters in light and heavy traffic scenarios respectively. We also show that the performance is not affected evidently by the mobility of transceivers up to the speed of 80 km/h. The most important performance factors are the availability of line-of-sight between sender and receiver in urban scenarios. We also use the famous Rappaport channel model for field experimental data fitting, and show that the model is valid even with moving massive reflectors. The empirical data and model fitting will benefit upper layer protocol design based on 802.15.4c in China in the future.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130570103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The list of the access stations is called a diversity set. In this paper, we investigate the performance of an enhanced MDHO technique for TDD-OFDMA-based interference-limited multi-hop relay cellular networks. The enhanced MDHO exploits all the data signals transmitted by the diversity set members of the MS. The performance evaluation is carried out using a system-level simulation. Simulation results show that the enhanced MDHO is more spectrally efficient than conventional MDHO, fast access station switching (FASS) and hard handover (HHO) techniques.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116778700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The core idea of this delay-diversity system is to delay two spreading sequences that carry the same information of a bit with respect to each other in order to statistically separate the influence of fading on the same bit in time domain. The theoretical bit error rate (BER) expression of the proposed system is derived and verified by simulations. According to the numerical results, it is found that this technique save significant amount of transmitting power, and it may be used to extend the life-time of energy-constrained devices such as sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127228528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An ABE system injects probe packets into networks with defined attributes such as inter-packet gaps (IPGs). Then comparing them in both the sender and receiver provides available bandwidth after analytical processes. Our goals are to construct an useful ABE system for high-speed networks where giga-bit-per-second-class traffic flows. To easily take advantage of the ABE results, we built an ABE system on an off-the-shelf PC to work closely with applications in the same system. An off-the-shelf PC architecture; however, lacks performance required for precise ABE analysis. To break such performance limitations, we implemented hardware assistance, which is useful for accurately controlling probe packet attributes and fine-resolution ABE analysis, in a 10-Gbps network interface card. We evaluated our ABE system in experimental networks with background traffic of Gbps-class video streaming. The results gave an accurate estimation, although there was a tradeoff between accuracy and probe packet disturbance to video streaming.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127311230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One issue with this approach is that UE can't receive the radio frames transmitted from the serving cell during the period. This paper evaluates service interruption time caused by reading system information of target Home eNB during handover evaluation period. We compare three measurement approaches intensively and provide helpful tips for reducing service interruption time. We show that autonomous measurement approach provides best performance in a dense femtocell deployment through simulation and it is very effective way for user equipment to make the best use of the timing of target Home eNB to reduce frame loss.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127023339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two methods of spam SMS message filtering objected to filter spam SMS messages written in Thai and English have been studied and implemented. The first method simply uses current spam English message filtering and then upgrades for Thai language support. The second one applies text normalization, word segmentation process, and analyzing/correcting the semantic of Thai words. However, both methods are applied by 2 different decision-making algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Naive Bayesian (NB) algorithms. Finally, the results from trial applying in the real system are shown. The results show that the second filtering method has higher accuracy. Moreover, the SVM based filtering consumes more processing time than the NB based filtering about 2.5 times for both proposed methods.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124038157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a wireless mesh network designed for long distance communication with a typical deployment scenario of a maritime mesh network. This network uses an antenna system made up of multiple fixed-beamwidth antennas. Through efficient use of directional antennas for both transmission and reception, and spatial reuse in transmission, we are able to realize a high capacity mesh network. In this paper, we present a practical approach to topology dissemination for maritime wireless mesh networks.
