The proposed antenna is composed of three-unit cells of left-handed metamaterial (LHM) where these LHM unit cells are composed of a combination of modified octagonal spiral resonator (OSR), octagonal split-ring resonator (OSRR), capacitance-loaded strip (CLS), and wire that exhibit negative electrical permittivity (ɛ) and negative magnetic permeability (μ) simultaneously. A trident-shaped feeding strip is used to feed all the three LHM unit cells respectively; which are united into a single line feeding strip on top of substrate surface, whereas the wire and ground plane are deposited in the bottom of substrate surface. By using of these techniques, we were able to produce an antenna solely from metamaterial that is for the first time used in antenna design. Return loss simulation showed that this antenna achieves 94% bandwidth for VSWR < 2 over the frequency band of 4.8–13.4 GHz, with a maximum gain of 2.7 at 11 GHz. The far-field radiation patterns, which show good Omnidirectional performance, are also discussed here.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134449103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low Power Idle(LPI) mode can be used to reduce the energy consumption of network equipments. In OBS network, burst assembly scheme, which aggregates the small size packets into large size burst, is important to improve the performance of LPI mode. However, the conventional burst assemble algorithms have focused on improving the QoS (Quality of Service) without considering energy consumption. In this paper, we propose Dynamic Time based Burst Assemble (DT-BA) algorithm using appropriate burst assemble time to maximize energy saving while guaranteeing the QoS. The burst assemble time is determined by queue status and traffic tendency. The performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of energy saving, average packet delay and transition count through OPNET simulation.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114759728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the SC-FDMA MU-MIMO uplink, contiguous resource blocks (RBs) must be assigned in the frequency domain to each user in order to retain the SC-FDMA property, and the same bandwidth, i.e., the same set of RBs, needs to be assigned to the users that are simultaneously multiplexed in the spatial domain to utilize the inter-user orthogonality of demodulation reference signals. Furthermore, in a multi-cell environment, cell-edge users in particular cause severe fluctuation in inter-cell interference, which also depends on the number of simultaneously multiplexed users in MU-MIMO operation. To alleviate these problems, this paper proposes efficient resource assignment and transmission power control schemes to improve cell throughput without degrading the cell-edge user throughput. Based on system-level simulations, we show that by using the proposed schemes, the cell throughput performance achieved via uplink MU-MIMO is increased by approximately 20% and 40%, for 1-by-4 and 2-by-8 uplink antenna configurations, respectively, with almost the same cell-edge user throughput as that of the single-user MIMO case.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117325085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With PL-WNC, two distant nodes first transmit packets to an intermediate relay simultaneously, which then amplifies and forwards the received signal. The destination nodes decode the desired signals by using the a priori information which are their own packets or packets overheard from the other nodes. The achievable performance of PL-WNC depends not only on traffic pattern within a network but also on the probability for each destination node to have the a priori information for decoding the desired information. In this paper, we introduce a scheduling strategy for PL-WNC, which decides source-destination pairs of PL-WNC, taking account of traffic pattern as well as overhearing probability among nodes. The selected sources transmit packets only when the destinations are expected to have the a priori information with high probability. We define a parameter for each source node to decide whether it should transmit a packet when scheduled, and investigate its impact on the achievable throughput. Our simulation results show that our proposed scheduling significantly improves throughput of PL-WNC.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"272 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115245368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although TTT can mitigate the wasteful ping-pong HO effect, it also can cause undesirable radio link failure (RLF) due to delayed HO. The optimal HO timings that produce the lowest ping-pong rate within allowable RLF rate vary depending on user equipment (UE) speeds and neighboring cell configurations. To achieve efficient HO timings, we propose and investigate two methods: “adaptive” and “grouping.” In the “adaptive method,” we select the adaptive TTT value for each UE speed based on RLF rate of 2%. The “grouping method” classifies UE speeds into three ranges and assigns the proper TTT value to each range. To apply the LTE specification more effectively, we suggest the criteria of grouping, and propose the proper TTT value for each range. We consider HO in two neighboring cell configurations: from a macro cell to either a macro cell or a pico cell. Simulation results show that the HO performance of the “adaptive method” is greatly improved compared to that of applying fixed TTT values. The results also show that the performance of the “grouping method”, using proposed criteria and proper TTT values, is comparable to that of the “adaptive method.”","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122903192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem with conventional cyclostationarity-based feature detection is that the detection probability of weak signals degrades if multiple signals with different received-power levels are captured simultaneously. Multiple signal identification has been studied in order to solve such a problem. The iterative detection method suppresses the effects of previously-detected signals in the cyclic auto-correlation domain, and so improves the detection probability of weak signals. In this paper, the multiple signal identification method is evaluated based on testbed experiments. In addition, the modification of the multiple signal identification method in which the effects of other signals are previously-relieved is proposed and applied to the testbed instead of the iterative detection method. The detection performance levels of the conventional and proposed detection methods are evaluated and compared to the results of computer simulations. The results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed detection method in spectrum sharing scenarios.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130106981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose an improved MMC algorithm for fast estimation of outage probabilities in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) channels. The algorithm uses an improved estimator which can provide smooth estimates with high reliability at very low error probabilities. The proposed estimator uses moving average filtering to smooth the visits histograms at each iteration thereby reducing the stochastic fluctuations between iterations. We compare the proposed estimator with the well known Berg's update and the simulation results show that the new estimator can accurately estimate lower error probabilities with the same number of samples.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131296073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It makes the bandwidth required for each multimedia service increase rapidly, and such kind of communication will be dominant since the development of machine-machine communications for human interactivity in the multimedia age. For this demand, the micro-cell will become a major role in substitution of the macro-cell. This paper proposes a new paradigm of mobile network system where a virtual single cell over connected micro-cells used to release the traffic load of macro-cells, and an IP-based paging network offering mobile users the seamless connection between networks through vertical handover functionality. New connected micro-cells network is to support vehicular users the broadband mobile services like mobile tele-medicine, teleconferences, online-game, etc and can be used for ITS (Intelligent Transport System) and shares the traffic load with the Macro-cell network. In order to become feasible, the first important issue need to be solved is mobility management because it is supposed to server for fast moving terminals. This paper also presents the virtual single cell mechanism; an LMC (Logical Macro Cell) and multi-polling to LMC to make resource reservation to adapt to quick change of access points of fast MT. Performance of achievements is reported to evaluate our proposal.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"245 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115790335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traffic generated by the P2P applications occupies a significant proportion of Internet traffic, and has an enormous impact on the backbone networks. Since these peers communicate by constructing virtual overlay routes, which are constructed independently from the IP networks topology, the characteristics of P2P traffic between regional networks such as those in prefectures and Autonomous Systems (ASs) have become an important issue. Consequently, it is necessary to understand the actual status of the characteristics of traffic matrices in order to construct and manage future networks. In this paper, we measured and analyzed the file transfer characteristics, such as traffic matrices, between prefectures and between ASs, by identifying file transfers between peers in Winny network, one of the most popular P2P applications in Japan. The results reveal that Winny increases traffic between prefectures and ASs, because file transfers in Winny network does not take account of locality.","PeriodicalId":402292,"journal":{"name":"2010 16th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121274742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
