Anthony, Ogundele A Gbolahan","doi":"10.30574/gjeta.2023.16.2.0142","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30574/gjeta.2023.16.2.0142","url":null,"abstract":"The design of a 360-degree rotating vehicle has been proposed as a solution to the problems encountered in traditional wheel vehicles. This paper highlights the benefits of such a design, the proposed models for implementing the design, and the design of a 360-degree rotating vehicle known as AKEA. Traditional wheel vehicles are faced with numerous problems such as parking and u-turn. The 360-degree rotating vehicle design eliminates these problems as it can take turns without moving the vehicle, and no extra space is required to turn the vehicle. The proposed models for implementing the design of the 360-degree rotating vehicle include lifting plates, chain sprockets, chain or belt drives, and quad-steering mechanisms. These models have several shortcomings, including complexity in design, unrealistic features and increased turning radius. The AKEA design, however, incorporates sustainable and recycled materials, and the result of the design process was a vehicle that performed various features. These features include side-ways movement, 360-degree rotation, and mobile phone operation. AKEA is connected to the mobile phone via Bluetooth, having a range of 100 meters. However, to improve the design further, sensors for self-driving and WiFi connectivity for a broader range of connectivity were proposed. In conclusion, the design of a 360-degree rotating vehicle is necessary to reduce and eliminate problems encountered in traditional wheel vehicles. Although several models have been proposed, the AKEA design performs various features and can be implemented in modern cars and trucks. Improving the design by incorporating sensors and WiFi connectivity will improve the responsiveness of the mobile application and ensure wider range connectivity.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126784799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The factors considered are: Quantity of CaCO3, Quantity of NaNO3 and Quantity of Starch binder. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicates that the linear effect of all the factors: A (Quantity of Catalyst), B (Quantity of CaCO3) and C (Quantity of Starch) are significant with P-values of 0.0050, 0.0062, and 0.0003 respectively. Other significant effects are the interactive effect of BC (Quantity of NaNO3 and Quantity of Starch) and that of the combine effect of all the three (3) factors (ABC) with P-values of 0.0125 and 0.0031 respectively. The Model F-value of 755.59 implies the significant of the model. The coefficient of determinant (R2) for the model of 0.9995 and Adjusted R2 of 0.9981 shows that the model equation has a very good fit to the experimental data. Briquettes produced from Run 7 and 4 have the least volatile matter of 1.54% and 1.67% respectively, the lowest ash content of 2.14% and 2.19 % respectively and the highest percentage fix carbon of 97.67% and 96.56% respectively.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124336073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aside that the cost of using them in construction keep rising, the associated health hazards in their production and usage are huge and costly to rectify. The usage of locally available construction materials is being hindered by the lack of useful engineering data of the materials for structural design. Wood is an alternative local, green and sustainable material to steel in roof truss design and construction. Its usage has been limited to short span roof trusses based on inherited knowledge especially in Africa. There is need to know the actual capacity and potential of various wood species in relation to roof design. This work studied the properties of; Gmelina arborea, Tectona grandis (Teak), Terminalia superba (Afara), Ayin (Anogeissus leiocarpus), and Acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia). The values obtained from the laboratory experiments conducted on them were used to design rafter and tie beam of king post roof truss spanned to 12 m and 8 m using timber section 0f 50 mm x 150 mm of all the species. Then section sizes of 150 mm x 250 mm and 250 mm x 350 mm of Acacia were then designed separately. It was found that the five species were not suitable for long span roofing using the chosen three section sizes because the tie beams failed in deflection, which is most critical to deliver a safe, durable and serviceable roof. However, all the species, except Afara, are satisfactory for rafter whose span is not more than 7.5 m. It was also discovered that the higher the section size of timber used in the design the lower the deflection.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132023572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigation combines numerical modeling and experimental analysis to understand the behavior of these joints and assess their structural integrity. Based on Hot sport stresses in the joints. The numerical investigation reveals that the brace region experiences higher stress concentrations compared to the cord region, with maximum stress concentrations observed at the 90-degree position. Experimental results confirm these trends, although slight discrepancies exist between numerical and experimental stress concentration factors (SCFs), with percentage difference of about 12 percent on the average for both Chord and Brace. The likely cause of this discrepancies is due to Fabrication imperfections and limitation in terms of Mesh size on the part of the software. The findings contribute to the knowledge of tubular T-joint behavior and have implications for designing mitigation measures. Further research is needed to analyze additional parameters and refine design guidelines to enhance the performance of tubular T-joints in offshore structures.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116157089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several studies have indicated that the deformation-induced transformation of martensite in ASS significantly affects its corrosion resistance. However, corrosion resistance behavior in chloride-rich environments is more complex, and different cold-working methods have distinct impacts on localized corrosion. This study investigated the structural and corrosion resistance changes induced by cold rolling in AISI 304 samples. The used samples were initially subjected to a cold-rolling process with a thickness reduction of up to 50%. The results demonstrate an increase in the deformation-induced martensitic transformation and micro-hardness as the level of cold deformation increases. However, higher levels of deformation lead to the fragmentation of the formed a’‑martensite lath structure into smaller laths, ultimately resulting in a predominantly refined and diffuse dislocation-cell-type structure. Potentiodynamic tests were conducted to analyze conventional electrochemical parameters, revealing a reduction in corrosion resistance with increasing cold deformation. This suggests that the formation, amount, and microstructure of a’‑martensite, under imposed strain conditions, induce changes in the studied electrochemical parameters. Additionally, the more deformed samples exhibited a higher current density during passive layer formation, and exhibited more intense metastable pits, suggesting decreased corrosion resistance with higher degrees of deformation.","PeriodicalId":402125,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Engineering and Technology Advances","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124573229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
