The aging process and degenerative changes in the teeth are helpful for estimation of age in adults. One of the best-known features of dental aging is a reduction in the size of the pulp chamber as a result of secondary deposition of dentin. In this study, we developed new regression models to estimate chronological age in Korean adults using the mandibular first molars to examine the relationship between age and pulp cavity size on intraoral radiographs. Intraoral periapical digital radiographs of the mandibular first molars were collected from 243 patients (147 male, 96 female) of known age. The radiographic images were analyzed by using the Adobe Photoshop CS5 image editing program. The pulp chamber height ratio (PCHR), pulp chamber width ratio (PCWR) were calculated and found to have a significant negative correlation with age. The correlation was consistently higher for PCHR than for PCWR. The strongest correlation was found for PCHR in female patients (r=-0.824). Multiple regression models were derived using the PCHR and PCWR. The determination coefficients (R) of the models ranged from 0.660 to 0.730. Among them, ischemic heart disease was the cause of death in 67.3% of people [1]. In general, most cases of ischemic heart disease are known to result from coronary atherosclerosis. However, there are several nonatherosclerotic conditions with different pathophysiologic mechanisms, causes, and risk factors. These conditions include vasospasm due to smoking, drug or alcohol use; emboli associated with atrial fibrillation or infective endocarditis; vascular diseases such as vasculitis, amyloidosis, or dissection; and systemic diseases such as shock. We analyzed our cases of unexpected death after venipuncture and conducted a literature review on them. A vasovagal response to noxious stimuli may explain such a sudden death immediately after venipuncture, commonly presented as needle phobia, breath-holding spell, and reflex anoxic seizure in the literature, despite the fact that the current medical evidence is not enough to prove their casual relationship. In addition, pain prevention and management during medical procedure is incorporated in clinical guidelines for pediatric patients, because painful medical procedures negatively affect child development. Choi","doi":"10.7580/KJLM.2018.42.1.8","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7580/KJLM.2018.42.1.8","url":null,"abstract":"A statistical analysis was performed on national forensic autopsy data collected in the Republic of Korea during 2016 to overcome regional limitations and limitations from the number of unusual deaths as reported in the literature over the previous year. A total of 8,335 cases were categorized based on the region, based on requests by the Police Agency and the Coast Guard, gender, age, manner of death, and cause of death. Analysis of the manner of death revealed that 4,028 cases (48.3%) were of unnatural death, 3,447 cases (41.4%) were of natural death, and 860 cases (10.3%) were of unknown death. Among the unnatural deaths, the majority of the manner of deaths (1,584 cases, 39.3%) was accidents, 1,378 cases (34.2%) were suicides, 428 cases (10.6%) were homicides, and 638 cases (15.8%) were undetermined deaths. Among the unnatural deaths, the majority of the cause of deaths (1,518 cases, 37.7%) was due to trauma, followed by 827 cases (20.5%) of poisoning and 732 cases (18.2%) of asphyxia. Falling was the major cause of death by trauma (668 cases, 44.0%). Based on a previous study about asphyxia, strangulation was the major cause, with 569 cases (77.7%). Unlike autopsies, which examine the body of the deceased using invasive modalities such a dissection, postmortem inspection examines the body of the deceased using non-invasive modalities. The findings yielded by postmortem inspection of the body of the deceased are limited. In South Korea, the rate of autopsies is low [1]. To overcome this challenge, forensic radiology, such as postmortem computed tomography (PMCT), was introduced in the country.
