It is shown that the proposed earlier feedback control algorithm called SONIC (self-optimizing narrowband interference canceller), based on minimization of the L2-norm performance measure, can be re-derived using the Li approach. We extend this technique with hybrid input spaces that are chosen for a more effective separation of speech from background noise. This work investigates the use of two different hybrid input spaces which are formed by incorporating the full-resolution and modulation envelope spectral representations with the Mel features. A coupled output dictionary containing Mel exemplars, which are jointly extracted with the hybrid space exemplars, is used to reconstruct the enhanced Mel features for the ASR back-end. A simplified free-space propagation is considered with a single desired source impinging a WASNs from the far-field and contaminated by a diffuse noise. In this paper, we analyze the theoretical performance of a fixed superdirective beamformer (SDBF) in presence of SROs. The SDBF performance loss due to SROs is manifested as a distortion of the nominal beampattern and an excess noise power at the output of the beamformer. We also propose an iterative algorithm for SROs estimation. A variation of this approach, due to Morgan and his students is also considered. This new paradigm generalizes ideas and results that are by now common in Imaging and Graphics. We apply the new algorithm to natural and range images, as well as cartoons and show that the proposed method produces results similar to those obtained by employing more standard approaches. The Model-based EM Source Separation and Localization (MESSL) algorithm is one such approach for binaural signals that achieves additional robustness by enforcing consistency in inaural parameters across frequency. This paper incorporates MESSL into a Markov Random Field (MRF) framework in order to addition ally enforce consistency in the assignment of neighboring time-frequency units to sources. Approximate inference in the MRF is performed using loopy belief propagation (LBP), and the same approach can be used to smooth any probabilistic source separation mask. Robust approaches for LASSO are needed in the case of heavy-tailed errors or severe outliers. We propose a novel robust LASSO method that has a non-parametric flavor: it solves a criterion function based on ranks of the residuals with LASSO penalty. The criterion is based on pairwise differences of residuals in the least absolute deviation (LAD) loss leading to a bounded influence function. With the i-criterion we can easily incorporate other penalties such as fused LASSO for group sparsity and smoothness. For both methods, we propose efficient algorithms for computing the solutions. The method is based on measurements of the first order kernel of the Legendre nonlinear filter modeling the acoustic path. In the proposed approach, the first order kernel is efficiently estimated with the cross-correlation method using perfect periodic sequences for Legendre filters. Perfect sequences with period suitable for room impulse response identification are also developed within the paper. This is because the papyrus degradation is often very serious, so physical analysis could damage the artifact. In this paper we address the problem of virtual unrolling to read papyrus scroll by avoiding a dangerous physical unrolling. To this aim we propose a virtual restoration method based on software manipulation of X-ray tomographic images. To test the proposed approach, a realistic papyrus model has been made using the ancient method and pigments compatible with the Egyptian use. The proposed algorithm is iterative but does not resort to any sweeping procedure such as classical Jacobi approaches. Instead we use a first order approximation of the inverse of the matrix of eigen vectors and at each iteration the whole matrix of eigenvectors is updated. This algorithm is called Joint eigenvalue Decomposition using Taylor Expansion and has been designed in order to decrease the overall numerical complexity of the procedure (which is a trade off between the number of iterations and the cost of each iteration) while keeping the same level of performances. To this end, efficient sensing techniques for spectrum awareness are a must. In this paper, we provide preliminary results on energy detection (ED) and cyclostationary feature detection (CFD) algorithms applied to a downlink Ka-band scenario.
