One concern for doctoral programs is the future role of AI in doctoral writing due to the increase in AI-generated content, such as text and images. Apprehensions have been expressed that the use of AI may have a negative impact on a doctoral student's ability to think critically and creatively. In contrast, others argue that using AI tools can provide various benefits resulting in rigorous research. This conceptual article first discusses the developing relationship between AI and dissertation writing skills. Second, the article explores the origins of the traditional dissertation and outlines 21st-century dissertation options which reflect contextual needs and utilization of AI. Third, identified writing challenges are highlighted before turning to an in-depth examination of AI-generated tools and writing craft skills required to complete the five chapters of a traditional dissertation.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48147347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of agreement on a definition of data literacy across contexts is therefore necessary. However, definitions are important. Definitions embody our understanding of concepts and are the foundation for operationalization of concepts. The work reported in the chapter is motivated by the observation that despite no shortage of university graduates, organizations are struggling to find data-literate talent. There is an apparent disconnect between data literacy as taught in the academic domain and data literacy as expected by businesses in the public domain. An exploration of definitions of data literacy in academic and public domains is undertaken to gain insight in why the disconnect exists. A thematic analysis and comparison of definitions in the two domains were conducted. The differences identified provide some broad directions for developing data literacy capabilities in students that better fulfil the needs of business organizations.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42892448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Human experience is expressed in the public sphere as the motivation for social and political change. The connections among experience, the public sphere, and democracy are identified. The allies in exploring the role of experience in education are John Dewey and Jack Mezirow's transformation theory and their understanding is a basis for outlining a more critical theory-inspired understanding of education as the reconstruction of experience. The work of Oskar Negt on experience will be the starting point for engaging in re-thinking the role of experience in education. This will be the basis for exploring the transformation of experience as a way of better understanding aspects of Mezirow's theory of transformative learning. The author concludes with a brief presentation of sociological imagination as the key to developing a pedagogy of imagination and a pedagogy of the transformation of experience. Hannah Arendt's work provides a thread woven through the paper.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43493270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, limited research has been conducted to examine the factors that influence its users' continuance intention. Thus, this study proposes an integrated model of technology acceptance model, expectation-confirmation model, and task-technology fit based on the data collected from 265 Chinese participants. The model also includes content richness and a newly introduced variable, danmaku interface, to fill the research gap. The results show that 1) content richness has no positive influence on satisfaction and perceived usefulness, 2) danmaku interface significantly and positively influences satisfaction at the significant 0.05 level but has no positive effect on perceived usefulness, 3) task-technology fit positively and significantly predicts perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness at the significant 0.05 level, and 4) the other hypotheses within TAM and ECM are well accepted. The features and educational functions of Bilibili could be further explored in the future.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46950194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, the overwhelming propensity for technology among Indian teachers and pupils has had a great effect on the country's educational system. On this basis, a study was done to determine how much teachers and students could gain from sharing precursory e-lessons through a messaging app. The main objective of this study was to investigate how to bring each student to one level, and how to focus parallelly while teaching. First, a pre-test was administered to the experimental group and the control group. After pre-testing, the experimental group underwent the intervention procedure. The benefits of precursory e-lesson sharing combined with face-to-face training were then evaluated using a post-test. It was concluded that this study not only made information transfer easier, more interesting, and more permanent, but also created a balance in the learning levels of the majority of students.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47820336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the use of recommender systems in online learning platforms is often underrated and less likely used. But many of the times it lacks personalisation especially in collaborative approach while content-based doesn't work well for new users. Therefore, the authors propose a hybrid course recommender system for this problem which takes content as well as collaborative approaches and tackles their individual limitations. The authors see recommendation as a sequential problem and thus have used RNNs for solving the problem. Each recommendation can be seen as the new course in the sequence. The results suggest it outperforms other recommender systems when using LSTMs instead of RNNs. The authors develop and test the recommendation system using the Kaggle dataset of users for grouping similar users as historical data and search history of different users' data.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43206222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Summative or formative, the potential of assessment to facilitate learning is now recognised. Feedback is one of the most influential factors on learning but is also one of the least satisfactory elements of the student experience. How has interest in, understanding of, and implementation of feedback changed over time? What are the general characteristics of feedback implementation found in literature? To what productive directions might future research feedback on assessment take? To gain these insights, a systematic quantitative review of literature on feedback on written assessment in higher education was undertaken, revealing that feedback as a field of inquiry, despite burgeoning interest, remains nascent, mostly ‘stuck in old ways'.","PeriodicalId":40094,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Adult Education and Technology-IJAET","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47630858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
