The proposed combined features are captured and training models are developed by K-means clustering procedure. Speaker recognition system is evaluated on clean test speeches and the experimental results reveal the performance of the proposed algorithm in performing speaker recognition based on minimum distance between test features and clusters. This algorithm gives the overall accuracy of 99.675% and 98.75% for the combined features and perceptual features respectively for identifying speaker among 8 speakers chosen randomly from 8 different dialect regions in “TIMIT” database. It also gives average accuracy of 96.375% and 95.625% for perceptual linear predictive cepstrum combined with pitch and perceptual linear predictive cepstrum respectively for 8 speakers chosen randomly from the same dialect region. The noteworthy feature of speaker identification algorithm is to evaluate the testing procedure on identical messages for all speakers. In this work, Fratio is computed as a theoretical measure to validate the experimental results on speaker recognition.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"400 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114693540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More than 50% of all cardiac deaths are due to sudden cardiac death. Despite all the work done to decrease this increasing number, identifying patients at highest risk for sudden cardiac death is still of concern. Noninvasive Microvolt T Wave Alternans test using electrocardiographic signals would be an ideal diagnostic test for stratifying the risk of sudden cardiac death in a larger group in the society. On the other hand, at present MTWA test is not reliable enough to be used for clinical decision making unless its low positive predictive value would be increased as is published by several recent studies on what should be done to save MTWA test. Another disadvantage of the present MTWA algorithms is the high number of indeterminate tests achieved. In this paper the proposed algorithm is aimed to enhance the low positive predictive value and reduce the number of indeterminate tests achieved in clinical studies.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129947583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present an off-line signature verification and recognition system based on a combination of features extracted such as global features, mask features and grid features. The system is trained using a database of signatures. For each person, a centroid feature vector is obtained from a set of his/her genuine samples using the features that were extracted. The centroid signature is then used as a template which is used to verify a claimed signature. To obtain a satisfactory measure of similarity between our template signature and the claimed signature, we use the Euclidean distance in the feature space. The results were very promising and a success rate of 84.1% was achieved using a localized threshold.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128520371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Estimation of sound wave direction of arrival (DOA) based on time differences between separate microphones is typically applied for sound source localization, and the existing research achievements of the field are utilized in the presented study. In this paper, a new method for estimating the state of a supersonic bullet is proposed. State is defined here to consist of bullet's trajectory, caliber, and speed. The method is based on a mathematical modeling of the bullet shock wave, and the parameter estimation procedure is built over the Bayesian inference. Both simulations and real shooting data are used to test and verify the performance of the proposed method. Bringing shock wave modeling and Bayesian inference together is the main focus of the study.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128929181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bayesian approach is adopted to estimate the model parameters. Using the parameters, autocorrelation (AC) coefficient is computed. Based on the AC, two texture descriptors are proposed: (i) texnum, the local descriptor and (ii) texspectrum, the global descriptor. Decimal numbers are computed and that are proposed to represent textures present in a small image region. These numbers uniquely represent the texture primitives. The textured image under analysis is represented globally by observing the frequency of occurrences of the texnums called texspectrum. The textures are identified and are distinguished from the untextured regions with edges.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124988107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of this paper is to present a system for automatic image sequence processing for autonomous aerial navigation research. Two main experiments were employed in this work, the first with clipping images of a geo-referenced aerial image, to simulate the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigation, and the second employing the video frames obtained from a camera fixed to a helicopter in a low level flight, simulating the vision system of an UAV. The image features used in recognition task were obtained by the SIFT algorithm. The recognition system consists on a video frame processing to estimate the UAV displacement. Promising results were obtained.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"531 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123097639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to the motion of the head, eye gaze, face or even the whole body, tracking of hand movement has become increasingly popular, efficient and more natural in human computer interaction. However available systems are invasive and require the user to wear gloves or markers. In this project, we propose a markerless hand tracking system as a virtual input device. We track the hand movement using skin color as detection cue because color allows fast processing, and is highly robust to geometric variations of hand pattern [1]. The skin segmentation are modeled by a parametric skin modeling using single Gaussian method where the mean and covariance of chrominant color are calculated and the Mahalanobis distance to classified skin and non-skin threshold are measured. Then by using blob analysis technique, the centroid value is extracted and uses it as the position of the hand. Robotic platform can be controlled by a set of six instructions including stop, start, forward, backward, left and right based on the movement of the hand.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126417803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this thermal imaging system, the omnidirectional scenes in a machine room, production plant, pump house, laboratory, etc within a factory site are first captured using a thermal camera attached to a custom made hyperbolic IR (infrared radiation) reflected mirror. The captured scenes with some machines to be monitored are then fed into a laptop computer for image processing and alarm purposes. Log-polar mapping is proposed to map the captured omnidirectional thermal image into panoramic image, hence providing the observer or image processing tools a complete wide angle of view. A simple and effective machine condition monitoring algorithm is also designed for monitored the normal/overheat condition for machines. The observed significances of this new proposed omnidirectional thermal imaging system include: it can cover a wide angle of view (360° omnidirectional), using minimum hardware, low cost and the output thermal images are with higher data compression. Experimental results show that the proposed thermal imaging system achieves high accuracy in monitoring machine condition.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116254186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few face recognition methods focus on computational cost. To reduce the computational cost of face recognition, we propose an effective face recognition method using Haar wavelet features and a branch and bound method. Our proposed method extracts features of the Haar wavelet from a normalized face image, and recognizes the face by classifiers learned with the AdaBoost M1 algorithm. To increase the efficiency of the recognition process, we select features according to the accuracy of classification and apply a branch and bound method to the recognition tree into which the classifiers of an individual in the face database are merged. Experimental results show that our proposed method reduces the calculated classifiers in the recognition tree by 72.1% and achieves an overall reduction in the computational cost.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125002121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among different segmentation algorithms, level set methods have been very popular. Less sensitivity to initialization, ability to split and merge the contour, and also, involving statistical inference have made level set even more accepted than similar methods like snakes. However, it is very time-consuming. To solve this problem, in this paper a fast variational approach is presented for texture segmentation. For this purpose, first a feature space based on non-linear diffusion is set up from CIE L*a*b* colour components. Then, this feature space is clustered by fusion of clustering algorithms. Finally, the produced cluster map is used in level set for contour evolution. As it is shown in the simulation results, our algorithm is robust in segmenting noisy texture. Also, it is faster than previous level set approaches for texture segmentation.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114534836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
