Various methods have been used for image segmentation. Among these methods, watershed-based algorithms have been widely utilized due to their fast computational speed. However, their sensitivity to noise, and also over-segmentation, has made watershed approaches unsuitable for noisy images. In this paper, a novel method for MRI segmentation is proposed. For this purposed, a simple and fast feature extraction method is used. Then, the feature space, is clustered by Self-Organizing Map Neural Networks (SOMNN). After that, an edge map is set up from the clustering result. Finally, watershed transformation is utilized on the edge map. Our algorithm is robust against noise. Although watershed transformation is used in our approach, a region merging and denoising algorithms are not utilized as pre- and post- processing, respectively. This significantly improves the segmentation speed.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128583091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reduction of these congestions will lead to a less stressful and healthier commute. Before mitigating solutions can be obtained, the problem needs to be understood and analyzed. Exact solutions based on probability theory and queuing systems are difficult to obtain for even moderately complex systems. Further for complex systems, insight into system behaviour is not very clear. In this paper, a simulation technique based on the Monte Carlo Markov Chain is applied to an unsignalized T-junction. It is noticed that a “small” number of simulations are sufficient to understand the behavior of the system. This simple yet powerful method offers several options and hence, is very appealing. The method can be easily extended to other types of systems as well.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124508529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This improvement is achieved by modifying and optimizing an existing multirate filter bank that is used to improve the performance of full-band LMS adaptive filters. The optimized oversampled subband noise canceller offers a simplified structure that without employing cross-filters or gap filter banks reduces the total input/output distortion in speech signals. Issues of increasing convergence speed and decreasing the residual noise at the system output are addressed. Performances under white and colored environments are evaluated experimentally in terms of mean square error MSE performance. Compared to an equivalent oversampled scheme, fast initial convergence and better noise reduction performance can be obtained with this approach.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"187 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133865092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 122.4 second SAESUS strain signal was edited based on the Morlet wavelet coefficient amplitude level. Segments with wavelet coefficient amplitude level lower than Cut Off Level (COL) were removed. Furthermore, extracted fatigue damaged segments were retained and then were joined in order to gain new edited signal. The signal statistical parameter and fatigue damaging values should be as accurate as possible for all signals. From the analysis, the 25,000 µɛ was selected to be the optimum COL value since the level did not change the signal behaviour. This value gave a 14 % reduction in length with only 6.1 % reduction in the fatigue damage. This indicated that the Morlet wavelet can be successfully applied to compress the original signal without changing the main history as well.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124405587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The nonlinear filters chosen are from the median family filters: median and recursive median filter, and Wiener filter from the linear filter group. The hypothesis being tested in this paper is that front-end limiting will increased the performance of median filter when the noise was extremely impulsive. Each image has been analyzed for four impulsive noise parameter values, α = 2, 1.5, 1, and 0.5 which cover a range of noise behaviors from Gaussian, through Cauchy, to impulsive. One method of handling very large impulses is to incorporate in the receiver over-voltage protection in the form of an analog limiter which clips the received signal before the filtering process. The simulation results obtained suggest that the front-end limiting enhances the performance of median filters in dealing with images, where it eliminates the highly impulsive noise while preserving useful detail in the image.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"195 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114998995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mobility model is an algorithm that directs the node movement in a wireless mobile network simulation environment. This research points out most of the characteristic that could differentiate those mobility models. Different attribute distinguishes the existing mobility models. This study will also review some real-world deployments along with their attributes. Studying those models will help researchers deciding upon appropriate mobility model to be used in the simulation of mobile ad hoc network protocol.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"210 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124725907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overall works are the software development of a system that requires a video scene, which consists of the following components: moving vehicle, starting reference point and ending reference point. The system is designed to detect the position of the moving vehicle in the scene and the position of the reference points and calculate the speed of each static image frame from the detected positions. The vehicle speed detection from a video frame system consists of six major components: 1) Image Acquisition, for collecting a series of single images from the video scene and storing them in the temporary storage. 2) Image Enhancement, to improve some characteristics of the single image in order to provide more accuracy and better future performance. 3) Image Segmentation, to perform the vehicle position detection using image differentiation. 4) Image Analysis, to analyze the position of the reference starting point and the reference ending point, using a threshold technique. 5) Speed Detection, to calculate the speed of each vehicle in the single image frame using the detection vehicle position and the reference point positions, and 6) Report, to convey the information to the end user as readable information. The experimentation has been made in order to assess three qualities: 1) Usability, to prove that the system can determine vehicle speed under the specific conditions laid out. 2) Performance, and 3) Effectiveness. The results show that the system works with highest performance at resolution 320×240. It takes around 70 seconds to detect a moving vehicle in a video scene.","PeriodicalId":400165,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Signal and Image Processing Applications","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128593375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
