(APSA) is an institution conducting a diagnostic test of core subjects that includes Mathematics. Taking into account the importance of the subject, the researchers conducted a study on students’ performance in Math. The study sought to find if the mathematics grade is a correlator of APSA rating by testing the relationship between the final grade and APSA diagnostic test results. The researchers employed the quantitative method using documentary analysis of the existing records as to academic performance and APSA results. The subjects of the study were the 587 students of the University of Bohol High School across the four grade levels. The data obtained were then subjected to statistical treatments using the coefficient of correlation, t-test, and analysis of variance. Results revealed that there was a significant correlation between the grades and APSA results in Mathematics, while APSA results in the four levels varied significantly. This means that students with low final grades in math are likely to obtain low performance in APSA. The variance in the APSA results among the four levels implied that the trend differs - distributions of proficiency were different in the four levels.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127447912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most alarming issues the world is facing today is the existence of youth gangs, and the actions of the gang members once fully indoctrinated. This study delved into the youth gang culture in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. It focused on children in school and out-of-school who were particularly vulnerable to the influence of the gangs. The researchers surveyed 81 respondents who were members of any gang in the city between the ages of 10 to 18 years old. It sought to explore the gang member’s reasons why he or she opted to join such a gang, the activities of the gang, and its effects. This study was essential because it determined the damage caused by the members to victims and its adverse effects on the community. This study utilized the quantitative approach through the distribution of questionnaires to the respondents.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129305502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study utilized a multisensory approach to reading to motivate visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic (VAK) learners and assess the five-month reading intervention program for the pupils who are at risk of dropping out. It used documentary analysis, oral diagnostic tests for the Grade I Pupils At Risk of Dropping-Out (PARDO). Such was conducted on a one-on-one basis to assess the reading skills of the pupils, and the results were subjected to a t-test. The normative-descriptive method was employing a self-made questionnaire to gather information regarding the facilitators’ profile and their perceptions regarding the program. There was a significant leap in the performance of the subjects between the pretest and posttest. A significant improvement was observed in the performance of the pupils in the posttest. The program is very helpful to young learners; it encourages them in continuing their studies, especially those who are considered slow learners.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115873523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This particular study aims to look into how the OFW student-dependents assess their quality of life as reflected in their behavior or level of functioning across four domains—personal, psychosocial, cognitive, and spiritual. The study made use of the descriptive-purposive survey method with the use of a self-constructed questionnaire on the assessment of the quality of life, and documentary analysis of the existing records as to the academic performance of OFW-dependent students of the University of Bohol. In the analysis and interpretation of data, frequencies, percentages, weighted mean, Pearson Product Moment, and Chi-Square were used. Results showed the largest percentage of the respondents had academic performance ratings equivalent to Very Good. The overall composite mean in the personal, psychosocial and cognitive areas was 3.23, which inferred that the condition is visible but not so obvious to the respondents, and they did not strongly feel their impact on their lives. Results showed further that there is no significant degree of correlation between academic performance and the quality of life of OFW dependents. Furthermore, weekly allowances have no significant impact on respondents’ academic performance.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127261822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aimed to find out the level of endorsement of Filipino men to the prevailing masculinity ideology and their level of gender role conflict. Furthermore, this study desired to increase men’s awareness of their roles and work hand in hand with women. A cross-sectional survey research design was utilized for this study. A minimum of 900 questionnaires were purposely distributed to volunteers who were single, working, at least 18 years of age, have finished college, or if not, have at least some college experience to satisfy the requirement for a regression analysis method. Data were subjected to the Pearson R correlation method utilizing SPSS. Results showed the seemingly standing belief that men should be good providers of the family. Individual characteristics defined their roles as being objective, independent, and competitive rather than being physically strong or brave, or attractive to the opposite sex. Among the masculinity ideologies, it is Macho-Guapito (virile -handsome) that is related to all the areas of gender role conflict. Gender role conflict was only slightly experienced by men, with the highest score in the area of success, power, and competition.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123116957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main thrust of this study is to assess the needs of the professors and students of the graduate school of the University of Bohol as the basis for proposing a development program. Standards then must be checked in the light of the relevance and needs of the teachers, students, and the industry where they are expected to flourish in the teaching-learning process. This study used the normative survey method with the aid of the standardized questionnaire to conduct a survey of the instructional and research needs of the Graduate School. Results showed that professors identified the following top rank priorities: designing effective assessments, developing students’ critical thinking skills, and course and curriculum development. The students had the following top rank needs: developing critical thinking skills, incorporating active learning strategies into courses, course curriculum development, designing effective assessments, and writing across the curriculum. The needs of both professors and students were perceived by both groups as Moderately Needed which cannot be attributable to whatever factors caused these needs to be felt or perceived by them as such because those were not dealt with in this study.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130854668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being in control of one’s emotions and behavior is an important quality for an older adult to attain self-actualization. This correlational study utilized a multi-stage sample of 180 senior citizens in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. A 3-part instrument package was utilized to (1) describe the respondents’ demographic profile and obtain measures for their (2) emotional intelligence using the 30- item Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF) and (3) self-actualization using a 16-item questionnaire developed by Boyum (2004). The study made use of descriptive-correlational design to test the hypothesis that the level of self-actualization of older adults is influenced by their level of emotional intelligence. Data analyses revealed that the majority of the older adults in the sample have high levels of emotional intelligence and self-actualization. A Somer further indicated that emotional intelligence is associated with self-actualization (p=.004). This signifies that older adults who are emotionally intelligent have a higher probability to be self-actualized. Based on the study findings, respecting the emotions of older adults and being treated as individuals with dignity is highly recommended.","PeriodicalId":399018,"journal":{"name":"University of Bohol Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114188707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
