These networks are dedicated to long-range (up to dozens of kilometers) and low rate communication to ensure a good autonomy up to 10 years. The technical differences at the level of MAC layer between Sigfox and LoRa and NB-IoT are explained and evaluated. When little to no information is available for a certain user, the system fails to provide them with accurate recommendations, and this is referred to as the cold-start problem. To solve this issue, non- personalized and personalized active learning strategies were proposed, with an aim to obtain some ratings from the new user on specific items. In this paper, we tackle the non-personalized category, we compare the strategies that were previously suggested in the literature, and we propose a new strategy that combines some selected previous strategies. We use the public MovieLens dataset in the experimentations and we use MAE and RMSE to compare the strategies. The results show that our strategy performs better than the individual strategies previously used.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114397823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

S- DES is based on the same round function of DES, however, we introduce different modifications to overcome the weaknesses of the original DES such as the extended Feistel Network (FN) instead of the FN. The main advantage of the proposed scheme is that it benefits from the cryptographic characteristics of DES substitution and diffusion primitives. However, the size of the secret key is extended to 112 bits and the data block is set to 128 bits, which provides better resistance against the attacks that plagued DES. Moreover, the proposed internal scheme of S-DES allows for a parallel implementation, which reduces the response latency. Finally, the main idea of this paper is not to provide a better alternative to the existing standard (AES), but to provide an efficient candidate solution from the well-optimized DES cipher.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133347636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It decomposes a single Radio Access Network (RAN) into multiple virtual networks \"slices\" to meet demands in term of throughput, mobility, latency, reliability, etc. Slicing needs real-time reconfigurations to keep current with demands' dynamics. This results in an increased cost of Operation Expenditures (OPEX). We approached this challenge as an optimization problem of infrastructure's resources. We virtualized and pooled Baseband Units (BBUs) resources on cloud. Dynamic allocation and interconnection with Remote Radio Heads (RRHs) are made possible by leveraging the advents of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software-defined Networking (SDN). We implemented Distributed Base Station (DBS) using open software platform along to a public service orchestration tool for clouds. Our contribution is integrating service selection and deployment with real-time monitoring that allowed auto-control of resources by looping resources' lifecycle. In our experiments, we deployed several slices and we tested two scenarios. First scenario addressed slices' auto-scaling (Infrastructure Scale- Out/Scale-In) when free resources are available in the pool. Second scenario simulated slices' breathing (orchestration of resources) when the pool of resources is exhausted. In first scenario, results show that leveraging cloud elasticity by auto-scaling resources saves costs by providing exactly \"what-is-needed\" \"when-it-is- needed\" in term of cloud computing. In second scenario, results show that slices' breathing maximizes the usability by employing our \"inhale-and-exhale\" heuristic. It is about reusing resources from under-loaded slices in favor of overloaded ones with seamless effect on the user-experience.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125541305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main advantages of WMSNs is activity monitoring, where 2D images and videos have been used traditionally for surveillance and detection so far. However, a lot of interest is paid to depth information that is not normally available while using 2D images. In our previous work, the use of disparity information in WMSNs has been studied. In this paper, our contribution consists of evaluating the Sensor deployment for efficient disparity calculation for indoor and outdoor purposes. The simulation results show that while considering images from adjacent sensors, the disparity map is successfully calculated. The quality of the disparity is evaluated using structural similarity metric between one reference image captured by one sensor and the calculated disparity map.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"515 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116209453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was, therefore, necessary to process these data in real-time without storing them. Real-time processing requires specifying the analysis tasks before the arrival of the data. Consequently, any future need will not be answered because all the received data are lost. That is why it is necessary to keep a data stream summary in order to provide an approximate answer to the future queries. This can be done using the sampling algorithms. This paper is a continuation of our previous work in which we studied the Chain sampling algorithm. In this paper, we discuss two other sampling techniques: Deterministic sampling and Simple Random sampling (SRS) and we compare their performance against that of Chain sampling. The results show that Chain sampling gives better results than SRS and Deterministic sampling in terms of execution time and sampling accuracy respectively.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114870874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The considered optimization problem maximizes the elastic users weighted sum rate subject to streaming users rate, subcarrier allocation, BS selection, transmit power limitations and successive interference cancellation (SIC) constraints by considering uncertainty in channel state information (CSI). We consider worst case CSI uncertainty. The uncertain CSI is modeled as a summation of its estimated value and an additive error where we suppose that the error is bounded in an uncertainty region. First, we transform the worst case optimization problem into new problem with less computational complexity. Then, we divide the optimization problem into two subproblems, subcarrier allocation with BS selection and power allocation, thereafter, apply an iterative algorithm to find the subcarrier, BS and power allocation solutions alternatively. By numerical experiments, we study the effect of the uncertainty in CSI and simulation results show that PD-NOMA scheme improves the system sum rate.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114365422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We follow a decentralized placement scenario, where coordination is not needed prior to the delivery phase. We study two setups: a standard scenario without eavesdropper and a wiretap scenario with an external eavesdropper. For both scenarios, we propose joint cache-channel coding schemes that efficiently exploit the cache contents and take into consideration the users' channel characteristics at the same time. We show that the decentralized placement strategy causes only a small increase in delivery rate compared to centralized strategy. Similarly, when cache sizes are moderate, the rate is increased only slightly by securing the communication against external eavesdroppers. This is not the case when cache memories are small and large.","PeriodicalId":398620,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131657461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
