The present study used multinomial logit models to analyse the feeder mode choice modelling in Ahmedabad City in India. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model was 53.6%, which was greater than the proportional by chance accuracy criteria of 49.5%. The results revealed that increase in the level of service variables, i.e., travel time and travel cost, the respondents willingness from feeder modes to a present private mode. The findings revealed that as the estimated coefficients for a monthly income of users for three wheelers as a feeder mode has 0.641 times the chance of preferring over minibus while preferences of the bicycle as feeder mode have 0.817 more chances to use the minibus. The proposed methodology can be applied for feeder mode choice of same sized metropolitan cities.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"74 1","pages":"177"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85837586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of a public transport system (specifically buses) can contribute significantly to solving many of the social problems of the region like traffic accidents, congestion and pollution. The current research evaluates the community's perception regarding the need for, and the benefits of a public bus service system in A'Sharqiyah governorate (north and south) of Oman. Furthermore, it determines the major expectations of the community concerning the potential bus transport system in the region. Four hundred and eighty nine residents of A'Sharqiyah region participated in the survey from all the cities of governorate. The results identified the high public demand for the bus service in the region. The findings also provide detailed account on the expectations of the residents regarding the bus service. The study has implications for practitioners as well as concerned public authorities.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"30 1","pages":"209"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88034811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even though it is acknowledged that responsibility issues extend across the entirety of the supply chain, some parts of the chain are still in need of attention. Much of the detected misconduct takes place at the beginning, or the end of the supply chain, but the end of one supply chain could actually be the beginning of another chain. Here, we shed light on the interface between such chains, an area that constitutes a blank space in research. Ship breaking is used as an empirical example, to explain one situation where materials and products at the end of their life are salvaged and enters new/other supply chains. Ship breaking has impacts on the environment and the workers, but seems to be disregarded of both the first and second supply chain. Highlighting the problem, we suggest three types of flows in and between supply chains. We also bring attention to the complexity of responsibility in, and especially between, supply chains.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"19 1","pages":"130-140"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79127472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The case study is the city of Bardoli in Gujarat, India, where motorised shared three-wheelers (MSTWs) operate as a para-transit system under a high degree of travel time uncertainty in the absence of formal public bus transit system. The traffic stream on the six study corridors was simulated in VISSIM environment. The multi-linear regression analysis was employed to estimate MSTW travel time reliability. Results show that the proposed bus transit system but reliable could add on overall mode shift as much as 24%. The maximum mode shifts estimated even 100% from MSTW and 33% of car users. The MSTW is preferred as feeder service (63.4%) and not as an alternative to the public transit system. The delay in improving MSTW reliability and implementation of bus transit would cause acceleration in mode shift towards private vehicles.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"93"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79033485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research work, it is tried to sketch and analyse, what are the reasons for cost increase and the high level of it. Logistics sector is extremely important for this peripheral North-East European country as it accounts 16% of GDP and is vital balancing trade and alas current account deficits. Based on completed statistical analysis, it seems that the company size does not matter that much. Actually reasons for logistics costs are elsewhere, being possibly related to external environment (like natural disasters and political instability). Therefore, it is being proposed that both internal and external factors should be incorporated in logistics cost surveys in the future to understand the causes and drivers of costs better. Significance of external environment has only increased in Europe within recent years due to financial, political and environmental crises taken place.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"34 1","pages":"110"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90415809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specific objective of the study was: to examine the contribution of commercial motorcycles in poverty alleviation in Laikipia East Sub-County. The hypothesis tested was \"there is no significant difference between previous employment and commercial motorcycles contribution to poverty alleviation in Laikipia East Sub-County\". Questionnaire survey was administered to 66 respondents. Thorough literature search and review as well as field observations were used. Data was analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive analysis included frequency counts, tables, bar graphs, pie-charts and percentages. The Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to test the hypothesis. The study found out that commercial motorcycle contributes 10% towards poverty alleviation in Laikipia East Sub-County, and that key activities which had come up as result of commercial motorcycle ridership generated gainful employment. The study recommended that the county government should: rehabilitate the roads and construct motorcycle lanes; train and emphasise on best practices on motorcycle operations; and, establish well updated and accurate data base on commercial motorcycle activities to enhance their contribution to poverty alleviation and sustainability.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"155"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79425154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shopping centres are problematic, in particular, as they concentrate a large number of retail stores in a relatively small space. There are 18 shopping malls in Budapest alone, each containing 180 stores on average, therefore there is great potential in streamlining their deliveries. The most effective solution is a cooperative city-logistics system, a freight consolidation scheme. However, there is a shortage of available data regarding the logistical operations and freight quantities of shopping malls, so it is inescapable to develop a methodology by which the logistical characteristics of any shopping centre can be obtained. After testing our methodology, we concluded that it is capable of serving as the basis of such systems. This paper presents the development, structure and testing of this methodology.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"111 1","pages":"352"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73133928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three variants of cases were examined - a reference variant (without cargo monitoring systems), variant I (positioning systems), and variant II (monitoring cargo location and parameters). It was possible to assess the benefits of application of the monitoring systems of loading units in road transport. The transport chain was divided into separate processes. For each of them, the possible risk appearance was specified with percentage probability. On this basis, the simulation of transport cases was performed using Excel software. For the simulation results analysis, the statistical software 'MiniTab 17' and 'Statgraphic Centurion XVI' was used. Risk identification on each link of the supply chain allows taking actions in order to reduce costs, which is essential to the effective functioning of the company and increasing the level of customer service.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"22 1","pages":"336"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78079935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the major issues is their impact on the environment and society, because the activity is still largely based on road mode. Alternatives are not lacking, but are still struggling with levels of sophistication. The contributions in this area are dedicated to green supply chain models at strategic level. In contrast, there are comparatively fewer contributions at tactical level aiming at both economic and environment efficiency. The objective of this article is to establish a literature review of intermodal transportation networks optimisation models at tactical level of decision, integrating sustainability objectives. We focus on those which emphasised the intermodalism with or without stressing CO2 emissions objectives. We found that the majority of these models have a potential impact in terms of CO2 emissions reduction even if this is not stated as premium objective.","PeriodicalId":39835,"journal":{"name":"World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research","volume":"27 1","pages":"273"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87471481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
