The population of Malopolski horse breeding in Lublin region between 1976 and 2008 has been analyzed in the study. The recorded changes were characterized in the aspect of events that had considerable effects. A gradual decrease of Malopolski horse heads was observed, which was split up only by short-term increases, while both political, social, and breeding reorganization did not result in any positive changes. A temporary increase of the breed population was attributed to the appearance of Polish noble half-bred breed (pksp) as well as including the Malopolski breed into a program of genetic resources protection, although the latter factor did not bring any expected achievements because of its short duration and relatively narrow-scale. It is supposed that maintaining the Malopolski horse in its old and nowadays completely unprofitable type cannot be successful for private breeders, whereas those breeders who prefer its modern and show-jumping type would need at least partial support due to significant competitiveness of the foreign ride horse breeds.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131552589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiments were conducted in the years 2009–10 in the vicinity of Lublin (east Poland). A group of 10 colonies of pure Buckfast bees (bcf) were evaluated against 10 colonies of F1 hybrids European Black bee × Caucasian bee (mel × cau). The colonies were kept in Dadant Blatt hives. The winter hardiness of the bcf bees was similar to that of the mel × cau bees. The bcf colonies developed faster and had a lower swarming tendency in the spring. They were also definitely superior to mel × cau in honey production (honey supers). However, the groups did not differ in relation to their propensity to hoard honey in the brood chambers. The values of the parameters in the group of the Buckfast colonies were more balanced. Lower variability was identified in: the number of dead bees, the brood area in the second and third measurements, brood increase, colony strength and honey yield. The climatic and nectar flow conditions in the Lublin region (east Poland) are not an obstacle to the keeping of Buckfast bees.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"479 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133603713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study involved 400 piglets from 40 hybrid PIC line gilts mated to P-76 boars. The experiment comprised 4 treatment groups, each consisting of 100 weaned piglets penned in groups of 10 animals. Piglets from group I received diet with extruded wheat, group II – with barley, group III – with rice and group IV – naked oats. The grains were extruded at 14% moisture, temperature profile 120/160,180C and screw rotation speed 80 rpm. During the study, the production effects on the basis of individual body weight of animals on 4, 28 day of life (weaning) and 56 day as well as the feed intake for each litter were evaluated. The digestibility studies by indicator method were performed on 6 barrows from each group. Blood for analyses was collected twice from 10 piglets from a group on 28 and 56 days of age. According to the research results, extruded rice and oats proved to be more palatable components of diets for piglets than barley or wheat. Their dietary inclusion significantly increased the feed intake and assured a high health status of piglets at the rearing period. Dietary supplement of extruded rice significantly improved piglet performance manifested by higher daily weight gains and better feed conversion ratio. The piglets fed naked oats-based diet showed a significantly lower content of total cholesterol and triacyloglycerols as well as an elevated HDL cholesterol fraction in blood serum as compared to the animals receiving a wheat, barley or rice supplemented diet.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134475440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evaluation of productivity of fodder area in dairy farms localized in three regions differentiated by habitat conditions in Lublin voivodeship is presented in the paper. The method which was used during the research was a survey and the basic instrument was a questionnaire. The study was conducted in 145 farms. The productivity level of fodder area types, expressed by chosen indexes was regionally differentiated and dependent on the number of cows in a herd. Less productivity of the natural fodder area was achieved by farms in which grasslands area per 1 livestock unit was the biggest. The productivity of the basic forage area, measured in kg of protein, was mostly influenced by: cereal yields, grasslands area per 1 LU, their share in the agricultural acreage, the share of feed in a special area of arable land and their share in forage area in the agricultural acreage. Its level, however, expressed in MJ of energy was mainly affected by the area of farmland, the share of maize in the crop structure and the size of the non-economic forage area. The productivity of the forage area, expressed in units of cereal was mostly affected by the area linkage per 1 LU of their proportion in the agricultural acreage, grain yields, the share of feed in a special area of arable land and their share in the forage area in the agricultural acreage.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116258743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During control fishing surveys carried out in the 2005 and 2006 on the special angling lake Skomielno, 56 perches were captured and their scales examined for determination of this species age and growth rate. There were performed individual measurements of fish, while its growth rate and body weight were established by the length-based methods and back-reading procedure. Perch condition was determined by calculating the Fulton coefficient. The age of perch from Skomielno fishing site ranged within I+ up to VIII+ age classes, while IV+ age group was a clear dominant (contributing 30.5% of all fish examined) as well as VI+ (22.2% of fish). The highest average perch length increment was recorded for juvenile fish of VII+ age-group (172 g) and slightly lower for V+ and VI+ ones, i.e. 91 g, 80 g, respectively. Trials for performance for this breed are regarded as universal and well organized. The field trials of performance consist of conformation ratings and Hucul’s path. The minimum score needed to pass the trials is 85 points for mares and 95 for stallions. 222 and 191 horses were registered for the performance trials in 2009 and 2010, respectively. It was observed that mare families of Żyrka, Gurgul, Laliszka and Polanka as well as the male line of Pietrosu were less represented in 2010. In 2010 the stallions were poorly prepared for the trials (as 20% and 13.2% did not pass the trials in 2010 and 2009, respectively) while mares performed better, with 10.2% and 20.1%, respectively. In the assessment of the horse’s exterior, in 2009, greater differentiation was observed, which was statistically corroborated. Similar final scores in subsequent years were observed in horses representing the Gurgul stallion line and in the mares representing the families of Polanka, Wolga and Wyderka. Path analysis results show that mares obtained higher scores in 2010.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129452019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prior to this vitamin administration, ejaculates from males were collected to constitute the control (K), while the experimental ejaculates (D) were recollected from the boars after vitamin C supply. The present research has revealed an increased semen volume as well as a growth of total ejaculate sperm count under study and their concentration with concurrent elevation of percentage of progressively motile sperm cell, insemination dose number and spermatozoon count per dose. The rising dose of vitamin C administered to boars implied some changes in the aforementioned parameters. Alkaline phosphatase activity elevated by vitamin C supply has improved the percentage of progressive motility spermatozoa.
