The aim of this study was to determine the level of testosterone in roosters of the Polbar breed at 8, 12 and 18 weeks of age. Testosterone concentration in blood serum was determined in each of 50 roosters, using a device called Mini Vidas ® enzymatic method – fluorescent ELFA (Enzyme Linked Fluorescent Assay). Steroid hormone – testosterone in roosters of the Polbar breed showed upward trends of the hormone in blood serum with the maturation of sexual organs responsible for its production. The increase in testosterone in roosters was rapid in each of the periods. It should be noted that roosters subjected to the experiment did not yet reach sexual maturation. The level of testosterone in the blood serum increased with the age of the roosters. Variability occurs in roosters affected by the substantial range of concentrations of testosterone.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114911423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Body condition was assessed once a month (according to the 5-point BCS system) in a herd of 52 Black-and-White Polish HolsteinFriesian cows with annual milk yield of over 10,000 kg. The analysis covered 607 body condition assessments and test-day milking results. The data were analysed using the SAS package. Daily milk yield decreased significantly as BCS scores increased. Cows with the lowest BCS ( 2.25) produced 35.3 kg of milk, when for the highest scores (BCS > 3.75 pts) the amount of milk obtained amounted to 25.1 kg. Increasing body condition scores were accompanied by a significant increase in the content of protein, lactose and dry matter in the milk. Somatic cell count was not affected by body condition scores. At the beginning of lactation, multiparous cows used their energy reserves more intensively than primiparous cows, and from the sixth month replenished them to a greater degree. Lactations in primiparous cows were more persistent.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122638823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the present study was to analyze the traits of fattening and slaughter performances of fatteners according to GH/MspI polymorphism. A total of 369 fatteners from one herd were investgated. The fatteners belong to five different breed groups: Landrace, Landrace Duroc, Landrace Yorkshire, (Landrace Yorkshire) Duroc, (Landrace Yorkshire) (Duroc Pietrain). The frequencies of C and T alleles of GH/MspI polymorphism were, respectively: C – 0.864 and T – 0.136. Comparing the numbers of individuals in GH/MspI genotype gropus and the number calculated theoretically according to the Hardy-Weinberg law, no statistically significant differences were found. The conducted studies demonstrated a statistically significant influence of the breed group on the examined traits of fattening and a slaughter performances and a statistically significant interaction between the breed group and GH/MspI polymorphism for loin eye area. It was shown that GH/MspI polymorphism itself does not differentiate in any statistically significant way any of the examined fattening and slaughter performances of studied fatteners.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124004291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigations included adult female blue foxes and their offspring at a fox farm. The diet for carnivorous fur animals was improved with a synthetic antioxidant to protect feed components. The influence of a chosen antioxidant on some reproductive traits and performance parameters was determined. The antioxidant dose introduced to a feed (Rendox) proved to benefit the animal health status. The females from the basic herd that received the antioxidant showed higher reproductive parameters as well as higher body weight at slaughter. Besides, the animals were positively scored at the licence (conformation) evaluation as compared to the females from the control group.","PeriodicalId":397658,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Zootechnica","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126631256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
