In 2030, the peak load is expected to achieve 7375 MW, which is 2.12 times higher than the power demands in 2016. Utilization of fuel local resources especially oil shale and renewable energy resources helps in securing the needs of the Jordanian power system to the generation capacity. Renewable energy is considered as one of the most of important alternative sources available in Jordan. The rate of renewable energy contribution to the total energy mix is expected to reach 15% in 2020. Increased deployment of distributed renewable energy systems will be subjected to challenges such as efficient management of “duck-curve” dilemma and electrical harmonics. Therefore, potential solutions such as installation of energy storage systems and smart inverter with advanced functions should be considered in the development process of power grid capacity in Jordan.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117112646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Relays are used to help forward signals between a transmitter and a receiver. This helps increase the signal coverage and reduce the required transmitted signal power. One issue that faces relays communications is the SI problem where an unwanted leaked signal from the relay's output will contaminate the new signal received from the transmitter at the relay's input. A solution is proposed in this letter to cancel this SI which is based upon using the constant modulus adaptive algorithm. This is performed blindly at the relay without the need of any training, a priori knowledge of the SI channel or any other channel weight estimates nor the need of multiple antennas. Simulation results are provided to verify the performance of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129779357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two scenarios are addressed in this work, in the first scenario, the relay uses DF cooperative relaying to transmit data on a set of available subcarriers, and the remaining subcarriers are used for direct transmission. In the second scenario, the relay uses AF with diversity on a set of available subcarriers, and the remaining subcarriers are used for DF with diversity. The objective is to allocate the resources to maximize the data rate over one OFDM symbol subject to either individual power constraint on each node or total power constraint. We formulate such a problem as subcarrier based resource allocation that seeks joint optimization of subcarrier mode-selection and power profiles at the source and relay nodes. The algorithm is based on an ordering of the channel gains ratio and splitting them into two partitions. The partition that maximizes the OFDM symbol rate is sought. Simulation results demonstrate the merit of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130214203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is derived from the classical discrete deadbeat response approach. It is based on calculating the gain for each discrete sample that achieves the regulation in finite steps number equal the system order. The computation algorithm is implemented numerically by solving a system of nonlinear coupled equations using one of the known evolutionary techniques, in which the genetic algorithm is augmented with Newton-Raphson method. Two industrial control systems are considered for testing the designed controller validity. The efficacy of the method for parameter variations is explored and compared with the conventional approaches.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116184186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present work investigates the potential of detecting irregularities of EEG activity and connectivity in Autism Spectrum by studying the inter-channel stability of EEG components point-by-point pulsation as well as by frequency 3D mapping. First, Empirical Mode Decomposition is used to find the Intrinsic Mode Functions of every EEG channel. Second, the Phase derivatives of analytic intrinsic modes are then calculated. Third, each phase derivative function obtained for an intrinsic mode is plotted versus the phase derivative function of the counterpart intrinsic mode in another channel. Finally, the stability loops found out are then analyzed. Furthermore, 3D mapping of EEG frequency bands (Delta, Theta, Alpha and Beta) is conducted and examined.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"8 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126074789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The replacement procedure of the batteries in implantable medical devices may apply risk to the patient's life, to avoid this risk many methods exist one of them is proposed in this work. The piezo-element is designed to be attached into the patient's shoes and while the patient is walking energy is generated from the pressure applied on the sensor. The generated energy is then harvested by using the MAX1675, the CLC filter, and the voltage regulator. The harvested energy is transmitted to charge the battery of an implantable medical device. Transmission takes place wirelessly with causing minimal risk to the patients' life. The achieved results in this work prove that the idea of wirelessly charging an implantable medical device with moderate economical expenses is applicable. The results are promising and need more improvement.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129691829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presentation will be in three parts. What influences sector-specific regulation: how a number of diverse factors influence the direction and shape of sector-specific regulation: public policy, economics, law, commercial interests and technological developments. How technology can influence regulation in the communications sector, for example, how regulation focuses on the last mile bottleneck and how the market dynamics and regulatory focus change with the evolution to NGA networks. How regulation can influence technology in the communications sector, for example, how regulation creates incentives and disincentives for new technological developments. The overall aim is to illustrate that one of the major differentiators of regulation in the communications sector (and a huge challenge for the regulators) is that it must cope with the speed of technological development — in a way that is seldom seen in other “utility” sectors that are also subject to sector-specific regulation.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117298708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mutah University is a rich place of these loads such as: personal computers, printers, fluorescent lamps and other sources might cause harmonics problem, therefore, it is imperative to examine and quantify power quality profiles and harmonics pollution in the campus. In this paper, a case-study analysis for harmonics profile in electrical distribution system of Mutah University is presented. The study focuses on one of the campus buildings (Engineering Faculty Building). Extensive field measurements and analysis are conducted; the harmonics profile at the main distribution board (MBD) and for single-phase loads are examined.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115620622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The environmental and fire benefits of these fluids are being realised by more and more users, which has led to esters being used in a wide range of transformers, even up to the 400kV transmission level. These larger power transformers are closely monitored to ensure their correct operation; this includes fluid testing, such as dissolved gas analysis. There are some fundamental chemical differences between mineral oil and ester-based fluids and it is important for asset operators to understand how to monitor and maintain these liquids. This paper aims to give an overview of the key chemical differences between mineral oil and esters and advice on how these differences affect the correct maintenance of ester fluids, as well as providing a review of the ongoing research into the area of dissolved gas analysis.","PeriodicalId":397467,"journal":{"name":"2017 10th Jordanian International Electrical and Electronics Engineering Conference (JIEEEC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130539085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
