Motor with electrical and magnetic asymmetry in form of rotor bar fault and dynamic eccentricity was investigated. Comparison of stator current frequency spectra obtained from simulations and measurement in steady state is presented. The analysis results described in the paper aim to show the interaction of characteristic in stator currents features that result from the simultaneous occurrence of mechanical torque disturbances and rotor faults.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131229374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to their low cost and availability, lead-acid batteries are good candidates for electricity storage in renewable energy applications and their second-life uses. Reused car batteries will definitely reduce the cost of these systems but battery State-of-Health evaluation is a main concern. In this paper, an original comparison between different lead-acid battery models with ageing is presented, due to lack of such type of reviews in literature. In addition, some simulations from a model developed by authors are compared with results from existing models i.e. deep discharge model and equivalent circuit model which are combined with empirical sulfation model. The model presented is simple and depends on manufacturer's datasheet. It gives more benefits than previous models while complexity remains very low. Then, the complex (but complete) Schiffer's model is reviewed. These models can be used in modelling for state-of-health simulation and their possible benefits and lack of information are discussed when using them for an already existed state-of-health method.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127179031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The three-dimensional fabrication freedom also suggests a new epoch in the design of electrical machines, as the process can finally be liberated from the constraints of 2D laminations. Despite the multi-material nature of 3D printing electrical machines, due to the availability and maturity of dedicated metal printing systems, most of the research and development on the field is concentrated on material optimization and rapid prototyping on these systems. In this paper we present the challenges of 3D printing electrical machines with current manufacturing systems and solutions offered by different authors. Challenges of selective laser melting (SLM) fabrication are discussed in greater detail due to its recognition and popularity in the electrical machine community.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127398312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since position sensor misplacement results in increased torque ripple, vibrations, audible noise, and reduced system efficiency, a robust technique for the diagnosis of the defect is required. Considering the commonly used sensors in BLDC motor drives, the DC-link current frequency spectrum is exploited to reveal the position sensor misalignment and the severity of the defect. Thus, frequency-domain analysis and, especially, the increment of the additional harmonic components of the DC-link current is investigated as potential fault signature. Moreover, the second order Goertzel Algorithm is proposed for fast fault identification due to its distinct features compared to the conventional signal processing techniques. Therefore, different scenarios are investigated to identify the effectiveness of both the selected harmonic components and the diagnostic method in highlighting the defect and its severity.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127034075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For reliable operation of variable frequency drive (VFD) motors, a standard acceptance test procedure (IEC STD 60034-18-41) to ensure PD-free operation of LV motors was recently developed. Although the test can verify whether PD exists in the stator for a voltage surge with predetermined voltage level and risetime, the information on where PD activity is present in the stator insulation is not clearly provided. In this paper, a test method for applying variable risetime surge voltage is proposed for identifying the component of stator insulation where PD occurs in the LV random wound motor stator. The proposed test allows the user to locate whether PD is in the turn, phase, or ground insulation. This information is critical for lowering the PD inception voltage for improving the motor reliability through insulation system design/manufacturing or motor/drive system reconfiguration. The test is implemented with a 4.5 kV variable risetime surge generator prototype, and 4 LV ac motors are tested to show where PD is likely to occur in commercial LV motors.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115781712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several prior studies have proposed motor current signature analysis (MCSA) based methods for transient conditions; however, these methods have limitations because they require the characteristic frequency of the motor or they only verify the performance of the methods for a restricted time-varying region. Thus, the research outlined in this paper suggests a method for detecting motor faults using stator currents. The proposed method uses two techniques, continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and distance approach. In this method, after the influence of the non-stationary condition is reduced in the wavelet coefficients, the distance of the residual signal from the distribution of normal state is calculated. The performance of the proposed method is confirmed with the simulation result examining unbalance. From the results, the proposed method demonstrates better performance in small-load under non-stationary conditions.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131044568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The featured isotropic material properties along with the Wide Band Gap (WBG) characteristics make it an excellent choice for power Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFETs). Nonetheless, material related limitations originate from the advantageous fact that 3C-SiC can be grown on Silicon (Si) wafers. One of these major limitations is an almost negligible activation of the p-type dopants after ion implantation because the annealing has to take place at relatively low temperatures. In this paper, a novel process flow for a vertical 3C-SiC-on-Si MOSFET is presented to overcome the difficulties that currently exist in obtaining a p-body region through implantation. The proposed design has been accurately simulated with Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD) process and device software and a comparison is performed with the conventional SiC MOSFET design. The simulated output characteristics demonstrated a reduced on-resistance and at the same time it is shown that the blocking capability can be maintained to the same level. The promising performance of the novel design discussed in this paper is potentially the solution needed and a huge step towards the realisation of 3C-SiC-on-Si MOSFETs with commercially grated characteristics.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"515 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132862003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pressplates should have excellent mechanical properties but low magnetic permeability to avoid high losses due to magnetic flux, so exotic steels and irons are used for this application. This paper presents the experience on a 362 MVA turbogenerator which operates at underexcited conditions for more than ten years, always in the allowable area according to the capacity curve. In the pressplates of this machine several cracks appeared, with the risk of catastrophic failure. Although the manufacturer recommendation was to replace the cracked pressplates, the material and the cause of the cracks have been analyzed and it has been determined than in this particular case, changing the machine operation, the risk of the growth of the cracks was very low. After one year of operation under our specified operating conditions, the size of the cracks has remained the same, avoiding some months of machine overhaul.","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"310 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122772497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach approaches the problem using several rolling bearing diagnostic methods which work simultaneously and complement each other. These include the well-known Hilbert-based envelope, Digital and Continuous Wavelet Transforms, Fourier Transform and Fuzzy Logic. Several heuristic techniques are proposed, such as Outer Envelope Filtering, Pulse Train Scanning and Spectrum Shape Analysis. Combination of partial results obtained by using different techniques allows for estimating the probabilities of different fault types (outer-race, inner-race and roller).","PeriodicalId":397001,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115771526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
