The Probability Hypothesis Density (PHD) filter using AI has been studied in Raleigh distributed clutter. However, Raleigh distribution is not suitable when describing the heavy-tailed clutters observed by high resolution radar or when grazing angle is small. In this paper, we consider the multi-target tracking in Weibull clutter in the framework of PHD filter. The closed form solution of PHD filter is derived based on uniform target birth model for situations where the signal-to-clutter ratio (SCR) is both known and unknown. Simulation results for Gaussian mixture implementation of PHD filter show that significant performance gain can be obtained when tracking targets in Weibull clutter.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127288334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel detection approach based on fourth-order cumulant is proposed to extract the weak life-sign such as human breathing. First, MTI is adopted to reduce the zero-frequency clutters including wall echoes. Then, according to the characteristic of suppression for Gaussian noise, the fourth-order cumulant of human echoes is calculated. Finally, the cumulant spectrum with the clear life-sign signal is acquired through FFT. The real data collected by our through-wall-radar demonstrate the theoretical validity.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127384391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is useful for many practical radar systems that could exploit the wide virtual apertures provided by coherent MIMO array, but have a low sidelobe requirement. The solution is obtained by jointly selecting the taper function for the receiving array and the transmitter (TX) displacements to provide a final antenna pattern with the desired properties. Moreover we investigate how beamwidth and SNR change by varying the number of used TXs and the number of isotropic elements used for each TX.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"06 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127202296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A common approach to TDE is matched filtering or equivalently cross-correlation, which is statistically optimal in white Gaussian noise. However, its performance greatly degrades in the presence of impulsive noise or non-Gaussian clutter. In this paper, a new concept called ℓp-correlation (0 <; p ≤ 2), which generalizes the conventional correlation from Hilbert space to the ℓp-space, is proposed. In addition, several important mathematical properties of the ℓp-correlation are given and proved. Based on the ℓp-correlation, a family of TDE algorithms robust against heavy-tailed noise or clutter are developed. Simulation results under a-stable noise are provided to demonstrate its robustness and accuracy.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125500785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Owing to the properties of non-circular signals, a new virtual array whose elements are twice as many as MIMO virtual array is formed. In order to avoid the EVD (Eigenvalue Decomposition) or SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) of the covariance matrix, the propagator method is applied to estimate the signal subspace. Then the rotational invariance properties of the new virtual array are figured out, and the DODs and DOAs can be estimated through ESPRIT. The DODs and DOAs are paired automatically without the additional pairing computation. Compared with the ESPRIT and ESPRIT-MUSIC method in MIMO radar, the proposed method is able to provide better angle estimation performance and handle more targets. Some simulation results are used to verify the performance of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115297241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
