This technique provides a full model of the Antenna Transfer Function (ATF) in the frequency domain or the Antenna Impulse Response (AIR) in the time domain based on a set of few parameters. However, some limitations are noted in the physical interpretation of these results. Performance and limitations of this approach are examined for two different antennas: a monopole and an Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) antenna.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114970992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the targets whose dominant scattering mechanism can be explicitly confirmed, the best fit dominating contribution is first computed using the general volume, surface or double bounce scattering models, and subsequently the residual components from the remainder power. By applying the new decomposition scheme to fully polarimetric SAR images, it is shown that the new method not only inherits the advantages of the classic three-component scattering power decomposition but also gives prominence to the targets characterized by strong volume, surface and double bounce scatterings.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124251946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is motivated by the fact that the detectors' performance degradation when an unknown located clutter edge exists in the reference window that divide the data samples into two different independent and identically distributed (IID) Compound-Gaussian distribution. To account for this issue, we propose an automatic clutter edge estimation algorithm based on goodness of fit (GoF) which can select IID data with the cell under test (CUT), and we also suggest a CFAR detector (CFARD) uses this clutter edge estimation algorithm as preprocessing to enhance the detection performance around clutter edges. Simulations are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed CFARD in comparison with Ordered-Statistic-CFARD (OS-CFARD).","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123702960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the detailed study on the measured clutter data from the search radar exhibits that the clutter satisfies compound-Gaussian distribution with partially correlated texture. The paper mainly addresses adaptive detection based on the two-step generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) criterion, and proposes the estimation methods for the unknown covariance matrix under the background of this partially correlated clutter. Numerical simulations illustrate the performance of the adaptive detectors combined with the proposed estimators under various conditions.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125267109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effective countermeasures should exploit components that are commonly found in IEDs. This paper presents the computer modeling and measurement of the monostatic radar cross section (RCS) of one of these components, the electric hot-wire detonator. Results indicate that the common mode associated with the detonator's casing and lead wires provides the largest RCS contribution, ranging between -22 and -16 dBsm in the 3-10 GHz frequency range. Although a differential mode can be excited between the lead wires, its contribution to the monostatic RCS is negligible. The effectiveness of twisting the lead wires to reduce the RCS is also investigated.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115256270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This radar isolates (gates in time, filters in frequency) the late-time resonant returns from the skin response of objects. Late-time returns are caused by resonant currents induced on an object as the incident radar waveform impinges upon the object. Multiple observations of the late time response are captured and coherently integrated as the vehicle passes in proximity to the scene containing objects under test. The resonant frequencies of the late-time returns are only a function of the shape of the object, and are independent of viewing angle. Manmade objects have clearly exploitable resonances not observed in naturally occurring clutter returns.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122886426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is composed by a Joint Ultra Low-Profile EBG antennas (or pixels) which form a 1D Matrix. The advantage of this solution is the fact that each pixel is isolated to the neighboring ones by metallic walls which make them independent of each other and reduce the coupling levels. With this design it is possible to cover a zone with a constant energy over an angle of 40° ([-20°, 20°]), without changing the maximum directivity (12.8 dBi), the angular aperture and the sidelobes levels (less than -18 dB from the maximum directivity).","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122059338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By emphasizing the polynomial-phase nature of the FMCW signal, it is shown that the HAF processing algorithm is well suited for estimating the sweep nonlinearity coefficients. The estimated coefficients are used to build a correction function which is applied by resampling the beat signal on each sweep interval. The sweep nonlinearity correction procedure is validated on real data acquired with a low-cost X-band T/R module.","PeriodicalId":396946,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117043511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
