This Article will explore educational theory as it should be applied to a J.D./MBA program. Legal educational theory and its relationship to the J.D. program will be discussed, followed by an examination of business educational theory and the MBA program. Accordingly, a comparison of the way in which these differing educational approaches are reconciled becomes the subject of analysis. Then the need for more J.D./MBA graduates is discussed and a new \"impetus\" toward providing these graduates is recommended.","PeriodicalId":39591,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Legal Education","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"1979-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/03069400.1979.9992507","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"59438073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As Chroust has pointed out, in colonial America any person desiring to be admitted to the legal profession had four major avenues of entry. \"He might, by his own efforts and through self -directed reading and study, acquire whatever scraps of legal information were available in books, statutes, or reports; he could work in the clerk's office of some court of record; he could serve as an apprentice or clerk in the law library of a reputable lawyer, preferably one with a law library; or he could enter one of the four Inns of Court in London and receive there the 'call to the bar.' \" 1","PeriodicalId":39591,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Legal Education","volume":"28 1","pages":"485"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"1977-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67043396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"The Importance of Comparative Law in Legal Education: United States Goals and Methods of Legal Comparisons","authors":"H. Ault, M. Glendon","doi":"10.1093/AJCL/22.SUPPL1.67","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1093/AJCL/22.SUPPL1.67","url":null,"abstract":"This Essay discusses the gradual changes occurring within legal education, which are finding wide acceptance in law schools throughout the United States. These changes include greater attention to other disciplines, primarily economics and behavioral sciences, and the contributions they make to a fuller understanding of the legal system. In addition, law schools are increasingly exploring the ways in which the law in textbooks may differ from the law in action. Nearly every law school, therefore, is investigating the social and economic consequences of legal rules through clinical legal education, which attempts to provide a real or simulated laboratory experience for law students. The most pervasive change, however, may be the breaking down of traditional artificial and arbitrary classifications of subject matter, which attempt to provide the advanced student a tentative method for organizing his or her knowledge about the legal system. Therefore, comparative law courses in the law school curriculum have surfaced in an attempt to inspire students to think creatively about legal problems by providing new insights into the legal system. To illustrate their support of this approach, the authors discuss their experience with creating and teaching a comparative law course at Boston College Law School. The Essay provides support for existing literature surrounding comparative law in legal education while illustrating its importance to law school curriculums throughout the United States.","PeriodicalId":39591,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Legal Education","volume":"27 1","pages":"599-608"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"1974-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1093/AJCL/22.SUPPL1.67","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"60739471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It should be useful to schools seeking deans, to anyone wishing to become a dean, and to persons recommending others for deanships. Topics discussed include composition, organization and authority of the search committee. The search committee evolved criteria for dean candidates; sought to identify prospective candidates; procured the agreement of those prospects to become candidates; sought references; selected the candidates to be brought to campus; developed schedules for campus visits; and suggested a voting system for the tenured faculty. The article also suggests ways in which persons interacting with the candidates can be more effective in presenting their views to the decisionmakers, and implications of the way the search is conducted for likely acceptance and future relationships between the new dean and the University community.","PeriodicalId":39591,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Legal Education","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"1973-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68468330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
