One of them is face recognition using ultrasound transducer. The ultrasound transducer has been used to solve some problems found in face recognition using computer vision technologies where the latest method is limited to many external factors such as the light effect surrounding the object. The earlier researches have proved that ultrasound transducer could be used to detect human face. However, those researches have not been developed to identify a person through his/her face. Therefore, this research has proposed a new human face recognition system using ultrasound transducer and feature to detect and identify a person through his/her face with mapping of ultrasound travel time. This face recognition application has been designed to move horizontally (left to right) and vertically (top to down) in order to scan the whole face and to create matrix data. The matrix data in 15 × 15 has been composed from the signal reflection from the face, thus this reflection also represents the distance of the sensor and the object. Later, the matrix data were analyzed using ANN and conventional template matching to identify the person/object. The research has proved that ANN has lower accuracy than conventional template matching.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132948247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Continuous researches being done to discover effective approaches in testing that capable to detect faults despite of reducing cost. Previous work in State-Sensitivity Partitioning (SSP) technique, which based on all-transition coverage criterion, has been introduced to avoid exhaustively testing the entire data states of a module by partitioning it based on state's sensitivity towards events, conditions and action. The test data for that particular module testing is in form of event sequences (or test sequence) and sets of test sequences in test cases will perform SSP test suite. The problem occurs in SSP test suite is data state redundancy that leads towards suite growth. This paper aims to discuss an initial step of our ongoing research in enhancing prior SSP test suite. Our work will try to find out the best way in removing redundant data state in order to minimize the suite size but yet capable to detect faults introduced by five selective mutation operators effectively as the original suite.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132214539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective function of the proposed method to minimize active power losses in transmission line with the bus voltage system constraints is allowed. Type-2 fuzzy logic system (type-2 FLS) is used for tuning the inertia weight w, the learning factors c1 and c2 parameters of particle swarm optimization to control the particle velocity. Single mutation also used in the proposed method as a combination to improve and strengthen the ability of particle to search for candidate solutions globally and avoid convergence to local optima. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the method is applied on IEEE 30 bus system. The proposed method compared with the binary PSO (BPSO) and fuzzy adaptive binary PSO (FABPSO). The simulation results indicated that the proposed method can determine the size and location of the optimal DG with a total active power losses are minimum compared to other methods.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133857004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Calibration of the microdialysis probe and the parameters that affect this calibration are essential, since recovery factors are never 100%. In vitro calibration methods are typically used to compare the concentration of the outlet with the concentration of the medium. In vivo quantification methods of microdialysis data monitoring depends on active and passive tissue effects, complicating the calibration methods further. In vitro and in vivo microdialysis calibration methods were performed in gastrointestinal tissue of animal models and intensive care patients. Results showed that the discrepancy between in vitro and in vivo calibration method is minimal.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130490153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Camera-based gait analysis and force plate system are expensive devices. It also requires time-consuming calibration and setup. The wearable system is much cheaper. This system uses gyroscopes and two-axis accelerometers to measure angle of patient's leg and ground while the patient walks. Ground reaction forces during human walking are measured using flexible force sensors placed beneath insoles of the shoes. Communication between the wearable system and computer monitor can be performed using the wireless data communication.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131374360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are some requirements for WSN design in order to be implemented in this area. One of the requirements is data reliability in term of congestion management. For medical device network, there are other parameters to be counted besides data rate; congestion degree, medical device priority, and emergency scale. This paper discusses a novel effective bandwidth allocation algorithm (EBAL) for medical device wireless network. To calculate bandwidth allocation, EBAL includes four important parameters: congestion degree, device priority index, emergency index, and rate class, which have not been used by existing protocols. This protocol uses asynchronous time division multiplexing (ATDM) for communication scheduling. The ATDM is optimized to maximize the slots utilization. The simulation and experiment test results show that the algorithm is successfully able to manage the bandwidth allocation effectively based on the parameters as well as maximize the slot utilization by optimizing ATDM.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133685923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Efforts have been made to improve the strength of the plate. In addition, surface roughness is also a matter of concern which relates to biocompatibitlity of the plate. In this study, a hybrid surface treatment consisting of surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) and electropolishing is used to improve the strength and surface properties of AISI 316L stainless steel; a typical biomaterial used for osteosynthesis plate. The SMAT was performed using 250 steel balls with diameter of 4.36 mm for 0 – 20 minutes. The following electropolishing treatment was conducted after the SMAT for 0 – 20 minutes. The subsurface microhardness and surface roughness were measured to evaluate the change in mechanical and surface properties of AISI 316L after the treatment, respectively. The result shows that the SMAT enhanced surface microhardness from Hv = ±1.4 GPa to ±2.9 GPa, but remained to yield a rough surface (Ra = ±1 µm). The roughness and subsurface microhardness decreased from Ra = ±1.0 µm to ±0.1 µm and from Hv = ±2.9 GPa to ±2.2 GPa, respectively. In conclusion, the hybrid surface treatment in this study is able to improve both surface and mechanical properties of AISI 316L stainless steel.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133267635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was done in two parts, non-invasive clinical imaging study, i.e. brightness mode ultrasound (B-mode US) and conventional radiography (CR) technique, and morphological study of the bone healing process. Six sheep were used in this study and separated in two groups, three sheep for each group. The implantation surgery was done aseptically by creating a 4 mm diameter and 7 mm depth hole on each left and right hind limb of proximal medial tibial bone. First group implanted of HA-TCP at the left tibial and the second group by the HA-C composite. The right tibial of both groups served as control, which was drilled but not implanted. The CR and US were performed one day before and 7, 21, 30 days after implantation. Bones were harvested after 30, 60, and 90 days post-surgery and observed for morphological study. The B-mode US showed that inflammation and early bone remodeling occurred of both implants at subcutaneus area seven days after implantation and decreased 30 days after. Furthermore, the CR technique showed that both implant were still intact on site 90 days after, therefore, indicated minimal absorption or even not absorbed at all. The morphological evaluation showed that HA-TCP had been degradable 30 days after and continued, indicated signs for biocompatibility, biodegradability, bioresorbable, bioactivity and osteo conductivity properties. On the other hand, HA-C graft showed only biocompatibility characteristics 90 days after implantation. The result showed that the healing process of HA-TCP faster than HA-C but nevertheless, both composite still slower healing process than control bone.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124701023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The disease should be detected and anticipated as early as possible because of its fatality. For many years, electrocardiograph (ECG) has become the golden standard for cardiovascular disease detection. The main purpose of this research work is to develop ECG signal interpretation software on Android 2.2 platform. The methods consist of ECG data preparation, QRS detector, heart rate and QRS time extraction, and classification. The system classifies the abnormalities of heart rhythm into: Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC) and Supra Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT). To manifest the performance of this software, data from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database were used. The overall accuracy of this software in determining heart rate is 97.10%. This software also has average N-Accuracy of 99.15%, average V-Accuracy of 84.22%, average SVT-Accuracy of 97.78%, and the overall classification accuracy of 93.71%.","PeriodicalId":395673,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Instrumentation, Communications, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"242 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122126495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
