This paper presents an improved DV-hop localization algorithm which increases the accuracy of DV-hop algorithm without significant increase in the computational complexity. The first proposed algorithm utilizes K-means technique followed by node repositioning. The second proposed algorithm is also based on K-means technique followed by cluster division and Direction of Arrival (DoA) localization. The latter algorithm is used when node repositioning cannot be achieved due to restriction in certain applications. The proposed localization algorithm have been thoroughly evaluated through simulations and the results demonstrate a significant improvement in accuracy.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122469291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research and development professionals are seizing the opportunity to design and integrate more functions and services for smart home monitoring and control systems utilizing such microcontrollers. This paper presents a wireless irrigation system for a smart home garden that can be integrated with existing smart home control systems. The system consists of slave nodes and a master station each of which is equipped with a wireless microcontroller. Each slave node is equipped with a temperature sensor, a soil-moister sensor, a water valve, a microcontroller and a zigbee transceiver. The slave microcontroller reads and frames the surrounding temperature of the garden's grass and trees along with soil moisture. Then, the frame is forwarded to the master station via a zigbee ad-hoc network. The master station has an embedded fuzzy logic irrigation algorithm to water the grass and trees based on a set of rules. A home web-server is interfaced with the master station for remote access monitoring and operation. The proposed system can be operated as a stand-alone unit or can be integrated with existing home automation systems.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127784630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The likelihood ratio test (LRT) is considered as the optimal fusion rule when applied at the fusion center. However, applying the LRT at the fusion center requires both the channel state information (CSI) and the local sensors performance indices. Acquiring these information is considered as an overhead in a energy and bandwidth constrained systems such as WSNs. To avoid these drawbacks, we propose a modification to the traditional three-layer system model of WSN where the LRT is applied as a local decision method at the sensors level and an equal gain combiner (EGC) is used as a fusion rule at the fusion center. Applying the LRT at the sensor level does not require the CSI or the local sensors performance indices. It only requires the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed model outperforms the traditional model that applies either the maximal radio combiner (MRC) or Chair-Varshney fusion rules. In addition, it provides comparable performance to the traditional model that applies the LRT at the fusion center.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114369688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmission power of the transmitter is constant, but powers of the relays are adaptable. The purpose is to maximize the spectral efficiency between the transmitter and the receiver, provided that the bit error rates (BER) at the receiver and at the selected relay are less than an acceptable level, and an individual average transmission power constraint is considered for each relay. The proposed scheme performs based on fuzzy logic, thus the processing load is limited, and it is easily operational in different environments. Numerical evaluations demonstrate a significant outperformance by the proposed scheme in comparison with the previously presented schemes.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127232859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ultrasound B-imaging is one of mostly used displaying method in radiology. Our developed method and program use of the principle of B-imaging and displaying in grayscale according to pulse-echo approach principle. The program is focused on measurement echogenic area inside defined ROI. So, we measure level of echogenicity for examined tissue. It is based on binary thresholding due to grayscale displaying. We observe how echogenic area is changed according to threshold. Results were verified by an experienced sonographer and also by independent observers. We also observed average correlation between different ultrasound machines (r > 0.82) and between observers (r > 0.85, inter-kappa > 0.83, intra-kappa > 0.9). Up to now we tested the program for substantia nigra echogenicity to Parkinson's Disease diagnosis, raphe nucleus echogenicity and currently we examine atherosclerotic plaques in B-images with high correlation between 2 independent observers (r > 0.75) in a pilot study. Due to reached results of verification we proved the developed algorithm should be universally used in many diagnostics in which is B-MODE used, not only in neurology.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127280578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many packet level parameters such as packet loss and jitter which can affect video stream quality. Consequently, measurement of these factors can be used for quality assessment of video streams. The main goal of this paper is assess and estimate the end-user perception of video streams quality at the receiver end through passive measurement evaluation. In the proposed scheme the video stream quality is evaluated by combination of application aware and network level metrics such as motion intensity and packet loss effect. Metrics are extracted from video stream packets' content. In this paper a new method is proposed by using a combination of the DCT and PCA transform in order to use the low-frequency band for the color image. First, the digital color image is transformed into YCbCr from RGB color space and the luminance (Y) component is divided into non-overlapping blocks and the low-band coefficients of each block are placed in the matrix data, the PCA transform will be applied to it. The watermark is embedded in the first component of the PCA. The proposed method is compared to other DCT methods. Our method is robust and keeps the quality of the cover image, also increases capacity of the watermarking.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128300079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern digital control systems require fast on line and sometimes time varying solution schemes for differential equations. This paper presents new nonlinear adaptive numeric solutions for ordinary differential equations (ODE) with initial conditions. The main feature is to implement nonlinear polynomial expansions in a neural network-like adaptive framework. The transfer functions of the employed neural network follow a power series. The proposed technique does not use sigmoid or tanch non-linear transfer functions commonly adopted in conventional neural networks at the output. Instead, linear transfer functions are employed which leads to explicit power series formulae for the ODE solution. This allows extrapolation and interpolation which increase the dynamic numeric range for the solutions. The improved and accurate solutions for the proposed power series neural network (PSNN) are illustrated through simulated examples. It is shown that the performance of the proposed PSNN ODE solution outperforms existing conventional methods.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130042987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, many services providers tend to adopt it as the basis for their services. In this paper, we focus on the problem of the typical behaviour of DASH, which runs over Client/Server network architecture causing limitations in its performance in regards to the growing recent streaming technologies. Our main objective is to extend DASH implementation towards hybrid architecture between C/S and P2P communication models to guarantee the availability of the video service even in case of server saturation. In a virtualization environment, we tested our approach and the preliminary results that we obtained confirm the efficiency of the proposed idea for streaming videos in term of delay and video quality.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126157317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
