While maintaining the same scattered pilot structure and the same power level as in DVB-T2, we replace the phase values by a ZC combined sequence. This combined sequence can either carry information bits through a repetition of small ZC patterns, or serve just as a very robust fine time domain synchronization mechanism. We present the design methodology for different OFDM systems, the possible ZC patterns sequences valid for signaling and provide a recommended structure for DVB-T2 like systems. Simulation results show that, without degrading the pilot channel estimation, an additional time domain synchronization more robust than P1 of DVB-T2 is achieved in each OFDM symbol. The proposed structure can be used as a design basis for future broadcast systems to build on, where a separate preamble will no longer be needed, thus, reducing the frame overhead.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115087350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both decode-forward (DF) and amplify-forward (AF) are considered, and are compared with the point-to-point (P2P) scheme which does not use the relay. The question as to whether DF and AF can decrease the latency of communicating a number of bits with a given reliability requirement is addressed. Latency expressions for the three schemes are derived. Although both DF and AF use a block-transmission structure which sends the information over multiple transmission blocks, they can both achieve latencies lower than P2P. Conditions under which this occurs are obtained. Interestingly, these conditions are more strict when compared to the conditions under which DF and AF achieve higher information-theoretic rates than P2P.","PeriodicalId":395644,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing, and their Applications (ICCSPA'15)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121282157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
