{"title":"On the Calculation of Textile Halls","authors":"D. Ströbel, J. Holl","doi":"10.23967/membranes.2021.043","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.23967/membranes.2021.043","url":null,"abstract":"The calculation of textile membranes should never be carried out independently of the primary construction, because the separation of the calculation into membrane calculation on the one hand and the calculation of the primary structure on the other hand, in which the reaction forces of the retained membrane are applied as external loads, results in quite considerable differences, which actually always lead to a significantly higher steel consumption and are therefore uneconomical. The idea that the savings from the hybrid calculation (i.e. the calculation of the membrane and the primary construction) are only given for double-curved membrane surfaces is to be refuted in this paper. Even with straight membrane surfaces, as they are usually present in textile halls in general, we obtain smaller cross-sections for the primary construction through the coupled or hybrid calculation. Nevertheless, to date these more accurate models are little used in practice, because their generation is time-consuming and not all requirements can be represented in usual software packages. In particular, membrane fields that are not firmly attached to the steel or aluminum elements, but rather membrane surfaces that slide over them, are a problem. In the article it is shown that a fast modelling under consideration of sliding conditions yields results that are below the usual deformations and metal quantities.","PeriodicalId":395358,"journal":{"name":"10th edition of the conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130379057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Structural knowledge and design experience is mandatory to achieve a placid and efficient design. Regarding this matter, Arenas & Asociados has developed many different references through the years. First of all, pedestrian and road bridges, our company’s main activity, which let us prove, at a different scale, diverse mast aesthetics and structural configurations: Delicias Footbridge (Zaragoza), La Florida Bridge (Oviedo), Frank Gehry Bridge (Bilbao) or PCTCAN Bridge (Santander), are good examples. This previous know-how, allows to address with security the design of lightweight and textile structures. Our work’s best reference is the tensile canopy developed for Alicante’s marine terminal. At one end of the building, as a counterpoint to the hermeticism that characterizes its concrete structure, the main access appears framed by two overlapped textile structures. The structure is formed by a main structural steel mast, designed in a nautical way; and four secondary masts that, together with the retaining ties, fix the structures to the foundation. Between these masts, the anticlastic membranes of the tensile structure are developed: one of them following a hyperbolic paraboloid shape, and the other, a conoid. The two classical solutions of anticlasticity in tensile structures. The obvious analogy to the sails of a ship serves as a reference, linking the interior and exterior areas.","PeriodicalId":395358,"journal":{"name":"10th edition of the conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128110187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A modular façade system with transparent, translucent or even opaque envelope elements with a corresponding frame profile system is presented, which allows these differently designed envelope elements to be mounted. The façade system is designed to meet the relevant building physics requirements while ensuring maximum user comfort. The results of the research work in the corresponding project \"FoilTex\" will be presented.","PeriodicalId":395358,"journal":{"name":"10th edition of the conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128021015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The beams are arranged in the radial direction forming the top chord of the roof, while the cables and the struts compose the bottom chord. Polymer membrane is attached to the beams and pre-tensioned by backstay cables. Non-uniform impacts, e.g. snow load on a half of the span, adversely affect on the roof structure, resulting in significant increase in stress in the beams. Spatial ribs and additional ties effectively mitigate bending moments in the beams [1]. The drawback is in substantial complication of the construction. To reduce material consumption under various external influences so-called ‘adaptable’ structures have emerged [2]. The adaptation is an additional targeted influence on the structure, which diminishes adverse factors caused by external impacts. The present study investigates adjustment of backstay cables tensioning for diminishing stresses in the hybrid roof, made of flat ribs. Separate and simultaneous adjustment strategies are examined. The first strategy reduces bending moments in particular beams only. It brings about overall increase in stress and, thus, can not be adopted. Simultaneous cable adjustment task is converted into an optimization","PeriodicalId":395358,"journal":{"name":"10th edition of the conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117234709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As single-layer structure and as multiple layers air inflated structure, applied in roofs, facades or as a whole building envelope, they have a significant influence on the climatic conditions and the comfort of the enclosed space. ETFE foil systems used as building envelope have to meet requirements for winter and summer heat protection as well as moisture protection. It is therefore important to know the building physical properties of the film systems and the influencing factors. Depending on the number and spacing of the individual film layers and the installation situation (horizontal, vertical, inclined), the proportions of heat conduction, heat radiation and convection in these systems change. The film layers are usually double-curved, are neither parallel to one another, nor are all surfaces perpendicular to the solar radiation at the same time.","PeriodicalId":395358,"journal":{"name":"10th edition of the conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130842241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
