One such device is a robot-arm which helps people with upper body mobility to perform daily tasks. Manual control of robot arms can be challenging for wheelchair users with upper extremity disorders. This research presents an autonomous wheelchair mounted robotic arm built using a computer vision interface. The design utilizes a robotic arm with six degrees of freedom, an electric wheelchair, computer system and two vision sensors. One vision sensor detects the coarse position of the colored objects placed randomly on a shelf located in front of the wheelchair by using a computer vision algorithm. The other vision sensor provides fine localization by ensuring the object is correctly positioned in front of the gripper. The arm is then controlled automatically to pick up the object and return it to the user. Tests have been conducted by placing objects at different locations and the performance of the robotic arm is tabulated. An average task completion time of 37.52 seconds is achieved.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122354947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Static linearity testing of high resolution high performance DACs traditionally requires a long time and is very expensive. In this paper, a low-cost ultrafast method of testing DACs is presented. The method utilizes a low cost on-board measurement device for capturing the output of the DAC, instead of a precise digital voltmeter. By using a segmented non-parametric model for the DAC's INL curve and thus reducing the number of unknowns, the test time is drastically reduced. Additionally, the linearity requirement on the measurement device is significantly relaxed by removing its non-linearity. The combination of these two methods results in drastic reduction in linearity test cost for DACs.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117283241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A possible solution to reduce costs and improve patients' life quality is the adoption of Connected Health-CH-paradigm. The Internet of Things-IoT-approach is applied in the healthcare context in order to deliver personalized treatments and to allow doctors to gather detailed information about patients' health. In this paper, authors present a Message-Oriented Middleware approach for unifying interactions among CH actors. The ISO/IEEE11073 standard has been considered as a reference for data modelling, and a JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data description has been defined to be transported by the AMQP (Advanced Message Queuing Protocol) protocol. An embedded platform has been used for implementing a proof-of-concept prototype, showing feasibility and obtainable performance of the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121265562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Key blocks of the system are the integrated receiver channel and the integrated time-to-digital converter (TDC) fabricated in a 0.35-um CMOS technology. The receiver-TDC chip set is capable of measuring the time position, rise time and pulse width of incoming optical pulses with ps precision in the amplitude range of more than 1: 50 000. The timing detection is based on leading edge detection in the receiver channel, and the amplitude-dependent timing error is compensated for by utilizing the multichannel TDC. A measurement distance of 100 m is achieved to a target with a reflectance of about 10% at the signal level of SNR = 6, with an optical output power and receiver aperture of 12 W and 18 mm, respectively.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126504921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of four components: the eddy current probe coil, the impedance analyzer, the temperature acquisition device and the related software. A finite element simulation model of probe coil is established in COMSOL. BP neural network model is implemented to approximate the implicit mapping between the reactance variation of coil and the resistivity of the metal, since the relationship is difficult to be explicitly expressed by the combination of elementary functions. Depending on BP neural network, resistivity can be predicted from the data of coil collected by the system. The qualitative measurement of liquid zinc's resistivity during cooling process is realized. The results clearly reflect the properties of resistivity in liquid state as well as solid state. The resistivity mutation phenomenon during phase change period is observed. The experimental results indicate that the system can be applied to resistivity measurement of metal in liquid and solid state with considerable reliability and detection capability.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131785740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a frequency-dependent streaming potential through both sides of a transducer, which is one kind of porous media sintered by glass beads with different diameters and embedded in the liquid circular angular accelerometer. In order to increase the streaming potential signal, broaden the bandwidth of the accelerometer, and analyze the influence factors, we present a novel measurement system to determine streaming potential coupling coefficient of those transducers, which provides a sinusoidal pressure-driven fluid flow for transducers below 320 Hz. We have measured dynamic streaming potential coupling coefficients of 4 types of transducers by this device, and the results are well consistent with the theoretic model. For magnitude anomalies of the frequency response of the streaming potential coupling coefficient, we analyze the relationship among the cut-off frequency, permeability, and the mean particle size. It is proved that the cut-off frequency is inversely proportional to the mean particle size or permeability.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130906035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of UV/VIS spectrum, for the in-situ detection of water-quality anomalies, has several advantages: it is free of reagent, has a low cost and facilitates rapid analysis. For these reasons, it is one of the more popular research trends for urban distribution water systems. This paper proposes using the UV-VIS spectrum detection method to resolve the problems of existing methods, which cannot distinguish specific contaminants. We made a pretreatment using orthogonal projection to correct the gap between different batches of spectral data. We then used Partial Least Squares Discriminatory Analysis to extract features from the data set. A comparison of the alarm signal with the optimal threshold, revealed outliers from the training set. Finally, we used the Sequential Bayesian Method to update the probability of Contaminate Intrusion Events and to obtain the alarm sequence. Our results show that this new method is effective in detecting specific contamination, which can assist existing methods to confirm contamination types.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127392010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is assumed (by the speaker of the words) to exist some aspect of the thing being measured that is independent of its relationship to the person who is interested in the result of the measurement. Yet measurement is a response to the need of an observer to know something about the real world. There is therefore an epistemological aspect to measurement. Some aspect of measurement has to do with the observer as a knower of the result of the measurement. The paper considers electrical measurement. It proposes that these relationships correspond to two distinct kinds of measurement: one has the characteristic that there does exist such a thing as a true value, though it cannot be known: in the other kind, no such thing as true value even exists. The notion of true value is very useful, and for the kind of measurement where such a thing does not exist, the paper defines an alternative that has the advantage that it can actually be known under some circumstances in calibration.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124503218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Multi-core cable fault diagnosis using cluster time-frequency domain reflectometry","authors":"Chun-Kwon Lee, Y. When a fault occurs in a multi-core cable, it not only affects the signals of faulty lines but in fact, disturbs the rest as well due to crosstalk and noise interference. Therefore, this results in C&I signal errors in NPP operation and further leads to a rise in concern regarding the NPP operation. Thus, it is necessary for diagnostic technologies of multi-core C&I cables to classify the faulty line and detect the fault to assure the safety and reliability of NPP operation. We propose a diagnostic method that detects the fault location and faulty line in multi-core C&I cable using a clustering algorithm based on TFDR results. The faulty line detection clustering algorithm uses TFDR cross-correlation and phase synchrony results as input feature data altogether which can detect the faulty line and identify the fault point successfully. The proposed clustering algorithm is verified by experiments with two possible fault scenarios in NPP operation.","PeriodicalId":393766,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114754815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
