Revenge, the will to power, the search for universal attention: what motivates school shooters and generates a chain of subsequent tragic attacks in educational institutions? To a large extent, this is determined not only by internal factors (mental, behavioral characteristics), but also by external influence, including informational ones. The study is devoted to the study of a underexplored segment of fan-literature about school shooting and its participants, posted on the Wattpat and Ficbook media resources, from the position of identifying the main gender, thematic and content characteristics that contribute to maintaining interest in school shooting, its glorification and mythologization. The characteristic of the specifics, forms and mechanisms of promoting the ideas of school shooting in the media environment is obtained by the example of communities of creators and readers of fanfiction. The study was carried out using the methodological capabilities of modern communication theories as well as using Data-Science. It has been revealed that through fan literature, the topic of school shooting has largely become legalized, expanded its audience, and became a “gray zone”, poorly controlled from the outside.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141120844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of the subject is verified by the task of countering the spread of ideologies of violence, extremism, and terrorism in Internet communication. The multimodal text is considered a popular means of propagating radical ideas relating to incitement to social discord. The absence of complex models explaining the transmission of violence through multimodal texts is observed. It is shown that linguistic and psychological concepts can be relevant resources for building such a model. The purpose of the article is to generalize concepts in the form of intra- and extralinguistic factors that determine the perception of information about violence in a multimodal text. The generalization of cognitive linguistic theories into the group of intralinguistic factors is complemented by the conclusion that the semantic structure of a multimodal text is formed by visual, sign, and verbal coding systems; the perception of information about violence is determined by the typicality of linguistic means and the presence of logical and semantic links between the elements of a multimodal text. The conclusion is made about the influence of aggressiveness, personal attitude toward violence, and the experience of using violence on the perception of multimodal information about violence by the reader. The article may be interesting to linguists, psychologists, and a wide range of researchers in the field of humanities and humanities-related social sciences.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141123259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, in conditions of relative freedom of technology perception standards, large companies were not afraid to take risks by offering items to the market that were provocative and experimental, both in technological and social dimensions. Secondly, in the case of the Tamagotchi, an object was proposed that, through its activity, was meant not just to communicate or enable something but to introduce \"noises\"—various deviations and distortions into the structures of experience normalized by everyday life, producing hybridity and spontaneity, claiming an impossible transformation of a stable order. Thirdly, interaction with the Tamagotchi was not a game and, moreover, not a utilitarian practice. A new model of interaction with technology was designated—as with a living being, with its needs, cycles, stimuli, and possible responses to interaction. Individuals correlated themselves with these cycles, finding themselves in the sphere of influence of Tamagotchi's attraction—not as users or owners, not as players or hosts, but as caring and contemplative individuals, as someone who were deeply involved in the growth and development of another life—the formation of an autonomous presence. Instead of some limited and unambiguous functionality, a lifestyle was offered. All these features of the Tamagotchi are at the hearts of our perception of mobile interfaces in all their non-obvious totality. We build our behavior in accordance to them, they participate in the interpretation of the experience, they are included in the events happening to us, they participate in the emergence, distribution, and experience of emotions. They are not so much tools as they are companions. They affect us not so much through metaphors, but as elements that, no matter how imperceptibly, influence the forms of life, making them possible or impossible. The article shows how and why the influence of the Tamagotchi has developed — the influence which has allowed the proto-elements of the mobile interface to function not at the level of communication in value systems, but at the level of transformation of presence.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141122307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors focus on a webometric study, employing data analysis methods for grouping and investigating markers that reflect the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of models representing the Other in the digital space. The study aims to identify current trends and reactions of internet users to the diversity of alimentary preferences of various ethnic groups, thereby providing a deeper understanding of the dynamics of public opinion and stereotypes. \u0000The research extensively analyzes how perceptions of cultural alimentary features and traditions of different peoples are formed and transformed in the modern information space. It notes the significant influence of search queries and virtual interactions on the formation and alteration of the images of the Other in public consciousness. The authors discuss the implications of these trends for intercultural interaction and present conclusions that can be applied in further research related to the cultural and social aspects of perceiving ethnic groups. The findings of the study will be of interest not only to specialists in the field of intercultural communication, but also to a wider audience seeking to better understand the dynamics of how different cultures are perceived in today's information society.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138996559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metaverse, which means the other universe, is presented as a three-dimensional graphic virtual world in the computer environment in Stephenson’s novel. Cinema has started to use this technology in the design of spaces by quickly integrating with the metaverse technology. In this context, the surreal understanding of art, which manifests itself in the art of painting, has also taken its place in the space designs in the cinema with the technological developments in the film industry. In this study, the definition of intersemiotics is used to express the transactions such as space and theme between paintings and films in the art universe. The concept of intertextuality, which indicates the exchange between at least two literary texts, expresses the transactions of an art discipline with other art disciplines in the recent period, with the adaptation of the concept of intertextuality to other art branches. When the concept is adapted to cinema, the comparative processes of cinema with other art disciplines are evaluated in the context of intersemiotics. In this context, the re-creation of the fictional space of the thought created by virtual reality together with the surreal movement in the cinema is evaluated through the film “Avatar: The Way of Water”.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138997141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the narrative of the series touches on many pertinent issues, the realm of social memory remains insufficiently plumbed by researchers, paving the way for further inquiry and interpretations. An examination of the narrative motifs in “Severance” unveils concerns related to both individual and collective memory. Furthermore, “Severance” stands as a salient example of the visual mechanisms used to depict oblivion and “cancellation” and their subsequent role in sculpting collective memory and social dynamics. Philosophers, sociologists, cultural analysts, and those passionate about the intricacies of memory and oblivion in modern social relations will likely find the conclusions of this essay enlightening.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138997660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is aimed at analyzing the discursive characteristics of British public political rhetoric, which will fill this gap and expand knowledge about the relationship between language, culture, and politics. The work aims to identify the discursive features of the British public political speech from the perspective of its cultural specificity. The results of the study show that, despite the universal nature of the public political rhetoric, British public political speeches differ in certain specifics. The speeches of British politicians are marked by features characteristic of each type in the structure of the text, the use of vivid rhetorical techniques, strict adherence to the protocol, emphasis on the sense of national pride, as well as some unique attributes. This study provides a deeper understanding of the role of language and cultural factors in political communication, and it is also able to expand the theoretical foundations in the field of linguistics and political science. \u0000The article is intended for researchers and specialists in the field of linguistics, rhetoric, and political communication. It can also serve as a useful resource for students, postgraduates, and teachers interested in a detailed analysis of the discursive characteristics of British political rhetoric.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139000281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the reasons for Syrian refugees’ migration to Turkey, their population in Turkey, their distribution in Turkey, their education status and enrollment rates, their working lives, their impact on the economy, the aid provided to them, their impact on public services and security in Turkey were investigated. Subsequently, sentiment analyses were conducted based on machine learning approaches on Twitter to measure the perception of the Turkish public regarding Syrian refugees. Perception was examined in three different dimensions: general perception, the nature of perception, and the reasons behind perception. In this context, tweets related to Syrian refugees posted throughout the year 2021 were collected, pre-processed, and transformed into a format suitable for data mining algorithms. Some of the tweets were manually classified according to the machine learning technique, and the remaining tweets were automatically classified by algorithms determined, taking into account the manually made classifications. As a result, it was determined that the general perception of the Turkish public regarding Syrian refugees on Twitter is largely negative and characterized by ‘discontent’. The main reasons behind this perception were found to be the perceived harm caused by Syrian refugees, their high numbers, and perceptions that they are better off than the locals, primarily due to their refugee and residency rights.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139001342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the thematic content analysis method, the article compares new generation media theory and disaster journalism with practical applications and reaches conclusions involving a number of cultural differences. The main problem of the research is that earthquake reporting in Turkey is not effective enough in the national press. The aim of the study is to determine which applications are used by the news agencies that make effective earthquake reporting by using new generation media tools in the earthquake processes. The transnational news media active in Turkey produced news about the earthquake in a wide variety of contexts. When I consider the thematic contexts it is seen that city culture, preventive policies, building technology, education, psychological and sociological causes and effects often coexist. It is also seen that transnational news agencies play an important role in raising the phenomenon of journalism with a high level of political engagement in Turkey to a level of professionalism that takes care of the public interest.","PeriodicalId":393706,"journal":{"name":"Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138995920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
