Dobruja was the homeland of the Gagauz community, who were Turkish-speaking Christians belonging to the Greek Orthodox Church. Gagauz community was defined as a separate group among Turks because of their religion.\u0000Wittek explains the origin of the Gagauz and their conversion to Christianity by using the Ibn Bibi’s sources which contain the history of XIII. Çam","doi":"10.53838/ankarad.1129091","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53838/ankarad.1129091","url":null,"abstract":"This article deals with the state intervention throughout the empire to some foundation lands at the end of the reign of Sultan Mehmed II. The main purpose of the article is to determine the situation in the Bolu Sanjak of this kind of intervention, which was carried out by the \"abrogation\" (annulment) of the aforesaid foundations and the nationalization of the lands they saved in various ways. In addition, evaluations will be made about the establishment periods of these foundations, the origins of ownership of their real estates, the reasons for abrogation and their relations with the timar system. In this way, a summary answer will be sought on whether the changes in the origin, function and disposition of the abrogated foundations have a common ground that may cause state intervention. Taş","doi":"10.53838/ankarad.1131150","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53838/ankarad.1131150","url":null,"abstract":"The Ottoman State is known to have administered the provinces according to the classical province-kadiship (sancak-kaza) organization under the authority of bey and kadi. Looking into major studies on Edirne in the context of late Medieval Ottoman provincial administration and spatial organization, one notices a confusion as per related concepts. According to established knowledge; Edirne became the capital and the center of the province of Rumelia, maintained its political and administrative significance even after the conquest of Istanbul, and was under the administrative rule of the Çirmen sancak. Nevertheless, the fact that Edirne was administered by the commander of gardeners (Edirne Bostancıbaşısı) instead of the provincial governor of Çirmen (sancakbeyi/mutasarrıf) or his deputy governor (mütesellim) was never questioned from the perspective of Ottoman administrative history and spatial organization. For this reason, this article focuses on the nature of the sphere of authority of Edirne Gardeners Corps (Bostancı Ocağı) between the 1580’s until the abolishing of the office in 1826. As a matter of fact, it is not possible to predict this and predict its possible consequences. We can only say that there was a situation that required the Ottomans, who had experienced a similar disaster, to adapt to the problem quickly with their generally valid activities. In this study, which we aim to provide information about how the Ottoman local administrators followed the crow flocks in the face of such a problem, what measures they tried to take, how to cope with the problem and how the financial burden was met, the years 1899 and 1911, which we identified and classified in the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives.
