Secure CanaryWord is based on two existing schemes, Secure Bit [2] and Canary Word. The objective of this paper is to propose a new hardware implementation in order to improve the efficiency of Secure Canary Word. To evaluate this design, the hardware simulation is conducted using BOCHS emulator running Linux (Red Hat 6.2) with GCC compiler. Like the prior work, the results confirm that Secure Canary Word can detect buffer-overflow attacks on non-control data. Furthermore, performance is significantly better than the original implementation. This suggests that Secure Canary Word can prevent buffer-overflow attacks on non-control data without any serious performance degradation or storage requirement.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128817997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important objective in mobile communication systems is secure speech communication. GSM suffers from various security weaknesses. The GSM voice traffic is secure outside the core network but it has no security over the core network. This system can be made thoroughly secure by encrypting the speech which is to be transmitted on the GSM voice channel. In this paper we have demonstrated a real-time prototype of an end-to-end secure communication system developed in MATLAB Simulink. Our technique comprises of encryption of the speech before entering the GSM handset which adds security and confidentiality to our communication. The encryption algorithm is private to the communicating GSM subscribers and even the service providing company will not judge what was said. This is amazing because now the GSM channel will become exclusively concealed and confidential to the two subscribers so that even the company people cannot listen to them.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134158525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The VBIC model incorporates the thermal nodes of a transistor. Semiconductor devices are strongly influenced by the thermal effects. First, we introduce a collisionfree frequency hopping (CFFH) system based on the OFDMA framework and an innovative secure subcarrier assignment scheme. The secure subcarrier assignment algorithm is designed to ensure that: (i) Each user hops to a new set of subcarriers in a pseudo-random manner at the beginning of each hopping period; (ii) Different users always transmit on non-overlapping sets of subcarriers, such that malicious users cannot predict or repeat the hopping pattern of the authorized users, and hence cannot launch follower jamming attacks. Second, we enhance the anti-jamming property of CFFH by incorporating the space-time coding (STC) scheme. The enhanced system is referred to as STC-CFFH. Our analysis indicates that STC-CFFH is particularly powerful in eliminating channel distortion and hostile jamming interference, including both random jamming and follower jamming attacks. Simulation examples are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed schemes.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117190348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. This paper proposes a new cache type which consists of both of the kinds of the cache. Initially the entire cache system is exclusive in nature which changes with reuse of the cache block/way to inclusive nature for the reused block/way. When a new block is fetched into the cache, the corresponding way is reset to exclusive way. On a reuse of a block in level one cache, the block is made inclusive. Else, the block is exclusive in nature. Conditions when this model outperforms traditional inclusive cache are derived. The model is simulated with SPEC 2000 benchmarks and a performance improvement of 22% over inclusive cache and 46% over exclusive cache is observed.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115896592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the effect of different factors such as distance to the tag from antenna, height and position of antenna, effect of metals, and interference from other sources on readability of the tag. Experiments were conducted and readings were taken to consider the effect of the factors to identify the critical ones that affects the readability of the tag. Design of Experiments (DOE) was used; specifically 2k factorial design and 2(k−1) fractional factorial designs were considered to determine which factor/s contributes to the variation of readability. In addition, combined effects of factors were also analyzed. SASTM software package was used to validate the data statistically. The two designs were compared and the best out of the two was chosen to develop a model. The developed model can be used to read the intensity of the tag (output) with 99.08% accuracy. Based on the analysis of the data we concluded that half fractional factorial design was the best fit for the experiment.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126632864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional stack layout, in which local variables for user input and control flow data such as return address are saved close to each other, is often the root of the attack vulnerability. This paper proposes a simple finite state machine to track usage of stack frame locations at a fine granularity of 2–bytes. Such a fine grain protection is necessary to distinguish adjacent stack frame locations, which allows detecting abnormal memory operations even in real mode running of a boot loader. The proposed scheme guarantees 2–byte granularity for preventing malicious writes in the stack using small additional memory space for the finite state machine.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121278618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such systems require the localization of number plate area in order to identify the characters present on it. This paper presents a feature based methodology for localization of Indian number plates. Since number plate standards are not strictly practiced in India, a large amount of variations are obtained in parameters like, size of number plate and characters, location of number plate, type of font used, background and foreground color, etc. which makes the task of number plate localization all the more difficult. A two-step approach for localization is presented. In the first step, the features of characters are used to find the probable characters locations. In the second step, the features of number plates are used to find the probable number plate locations. This approach enables the localization of number plates in widely varying illumination conditions with relevance to the commonly found types of Indian number plates with a success rate of 87%.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127265517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
