The Wigner distribution for the speech signal is computed and the time-frequency cells in the Wigner domain that are robust to attacks are used for watermark embedding. The error introduced by the inversion of the watermarked distribution is quantized and used as a key for watermark extraction. The performance of the proposed watermarking algorithm under possible attacks is illustrated.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121457875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

WO3 thin films were deposited between micro-patterned gold electrodes and annealed at 500°C in air for 2 hours. The asdeposited films exhibited an amorphous structure and annealed films indicated crystalline WO3 with the average grain size of 40.3 nm. The crystallinity and surface structure of films were measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The highest sensitivity for 9 ppm NO gas in air at 250°C was 92.6% and 160% for thin and thick WO3 films, respectively. The respond and recovery times of thinner films were faster than thicker films. The sensitivity was also measured for high concentration level of methane gas to understand and compare the sensitivity of WO3 films. The highest methane gas sensitivity was 600% for 6% (60,000 ppm) methane in air at 360°C.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124851367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A hardware/software codesign system is proposed on Xilinx Virtex II Pro FPGA to realize complex algorithms for real-time image and video processing. This paper presents the framework of the VPP, discusses the architectural building blocks and FPGA synthesis results. Each hardware (custom accelerator blocks) and software (code running on an embedded CPU core) component is described comprehensively, laying the foundation for an adaptable and modular embedded system. As a case study, a real-time motion detection algorithm is implemented, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed platform. Additional hardware accelerators can be easily plugged-in to the system for desired processing engines. Furthermore, hardware support for decimal arithmetic has gained momentum with the revision of the IEEE 754 standard. This paper presents a new scheme for carry-free decimal addition using a signed-digit representation. In order to simplify the hardware requirements, each signed decimal digit uses a two's complement representation instead of complex representations found in other signed-digit decimal arithmetic implementations. Flagged adder speculation is used for fast addition of the constants required in the correction step. The proposed scheme is compared to existing signed-digit decimal adders. Each architecture is synthesized on 0.18μm technology for comparison in area, delay and power. The results show that both operation speed and area usage can be significantly improved with respect to existing signed-digit decimal adders.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127428006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then, a new real-Time MAC protocol is presented that is based on a general purpose MAC protocol, called S-MAC. While medium access strategy in S-MAC is based on contention and back-off schemes, protocol proposed in this paper uses feedback approach as a medium access strategy. As a result of this, it increases consistency in data transmission pattern, which enables it to guarantee end-to-end delay deadlines for soft realtime applications. Proposed protocol works in continuous ON mode of operation at MAC layer and is intended to be used for randomly deployed single stream wireless sensor applications. Finally, a comparative performance analysis of proposed realtime protocol is done with other real-time and general purpose MAC protocols for wireless sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132039753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A learning approach must be followed by a robot to understand its environment and perform data association before it accomplishes any other tasks. In this paper, we describe a novel combination of techniques to map the environmental boundaries traced by the robot and localize it inside the bounded region. This is an effort established using only an iRobot educational package and no expensive high-end external sensor. This method may be treated as a solution for mapping and localization in a static environment with a few low cost IR sensors. In the proposed approach, we trace the robot's movement in an arbitrary shaped bounded region and map the same using coastal rule wall following technique and the method of least squares. A full traversal of robot maps the boundary and the robot is localized in the environment using particle filter approach and computational geometry. Also, we studied the effect of localizing a kidnapped robot once the map is known.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132984211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some applications need information of acceleration and attitude with a high accuracy. For example, MEMS magnetometers and accelerometers can be integrated in embedded like mobile phones and GPS receivers. The parameters of such sensors must be precisely estimated to avoid drift and biased values. Thus, calibration is an important step to correctly use these sensors and get the expected measurements. This paper presents the theoretical and experimental steps of a method to compute gains, bias and non orthogonality factors of magnetometer and accelerometer sensors. This method of calibration can be used for automatic calibration in embedded systems. The calibration procedure involves arbitrary rotations of the sensors platform and a visual 2D projection of measurements.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122913309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An induction machine driven by a vector control system exhibits behavior similar to a separately excited DC machine with independently controlled flux and torque. In this paper the d-q model of an induction motor drive is used to derive the state space matrix representation of the drive system. A state observer model using the machine currents and speed measurements is analyzed. The estimator is derived by direct synthesis from the state equations. A space vector pulse width modulation (SV-PWM) inverter is used to supply the power waveforms to the induction motor. The method determines the center deflection of the membrane by taking account of the electrostatic pressure due to the bias voltage, external pressure, residual stress, and nonlinear spring hardening effect during large deflection. A new deflection shape function uses this center deflection to calculate a highly accurate deflection profile of the membrane which is then used to calculate the capacitance between the deformed membrane and the fixed backplate for any deformed profile of the membrane. The model has been verified by comparing the results with experimental and 3-D electromechanical finite element analysis (FEA) results with excellent agreement. The model predicted values deviate by a maximum of 2.2% for the membrane center deflection and 3.4% for capacitance values for different external pressure loading and electrostatic bias voltage.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114279881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
