A novel wasting-toggle-rate based clock power reduction technique is introduced and verified along with traditional design flow. The proposed technique can choose optimal clock-gating style selectively to minimize the power based on proposed wastingtoggle-rate analysis at RT level, and the optimization is based on proposed power equations without simulating the design at gate level. We have tested the proposed technique on real industrial multimedia-mobile-processor design. For the accuracy of the power optimization results, all of them are measured at gate level after synthesis by using industrial 65 nanometer technology library. The experimental results show that the technique reduces average 35.84% power comparing with non-clock gating design and 19.28% power comparing with clock-gating design by Power Compiler. The design overhead of the proposed technique is 1.79% increase of area and 2.55% increase of the critical path delay for whole circuit comparing with the original circuit.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134434551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such systems involve communication channels which introduce noises due to quantization, channel noises, and have limited communication bandwidth resources. Usually signal averaging can be used effectively in reducing noise effects when remote monitoring and diagnosis are involved. However, when feedback is intended, we show that signal averaging will lose its utility substantially. To explain this phenomenon, we analyze stability margins under signal averaging and derive some optimal strategies for selecting windows size. A typical case of anesthesia depth control problems is used in this development.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"174 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134311838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fast, low-complexity algorithms have been developed which can be implemented on the limited CPU and RAM resources that are available in the microprocessor chip that comes integrated with this type of cameras. When equipped with wireless communication capabilities, e.g. IEEE 802.15.4, the cameras can perform data fusion and collaborative decision functions that can further increase the probability of correct detection and classification. It is envisioned that systems such as the one described in this paper will work in conjunction with a wireless body area network (WBAN) that measures vital signs. The final goal is to have an accurate and cost effective system capable of providing relevant and timely information to the medical personnel that is responsible for the care of the patients.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129361441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SP3T RF MEMS switch incorporates 1 input port and 3 output ports. The design is based on electrostatically actuated cantilever beams and unlike other designs, uses a continuous ground that eliminate the effects of coupling capacitance between the ports and the ground. The HFSS TM simulation results show that at 24 GHz, the switch exhibits a return loss of 20.47 dB, insertion loss of 0.15 dB and an isolation of 29.7 dB among the ON and OFF ports. The actuation voltage of the switch is 14 volts.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127782850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An electronic environment presents obvious opportunities for collusion between principal and certain tenderers, fraud by tenderers and attempt of intruders to illegally access the system. In this paper, security requirements of an e-tendering system are described. Then the existing architecture of popular-tendering system are introduced. Then a new architecture for a highly secure E-tendering system is proposed. The new architecture uses encrypted iris pattern as biometric attribute for authentication of tenderers participating in a tender. The proposed architecture uses Shamir threshold crypto system for securing the e-tender box and imposes Bell- LaPadula security model on the access rights of parties involved in the e-tendering system.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127786691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soft-core processors for FPGAs are also becoming popular due to reduced design costs and better flexibility. Commercial soft-core processors such as Altera Nios II and Xilinx Microblaze have been widely deployed. While some research has been done exploring the design space of soft-core CPUs, much work remains to be done. In this paper we describe the design of UWindsor Nios II (UWN2), a soft-core processor that supports the same instruction set as Altera Nios II. We explore and evaluate different architectural variations of UWN2 including: (i) hardware versus software multiplication support (ii) register file implementation (iii) pipeline register implementation. We then compare UWN2's performance with Altera's Nios II and show that, with the recommended design implementations, our processor remains competitive. In future work we plan to integrate UWN2 with SCBuild, a CAD tool developed for automated design space exploration for CPU cores.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115292377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among different transformations, the SubBytes transformation is the most expensive one in terms of the chip area and the power consumption in the hardware implementation of the AES. It consists of 16 S-boxes and hence the hardware optimization of the S-box is critical to reach a low-cost AES. In this paper, we present a low-cost S-box for the AES. Instead of using look-up tables for implementing the S-box, logic gate implementation based on a previously known low-complexity composite field using normal basis is utilized. Then, we present improved formulations for the inversion in the sub-fields within the S-box to reduce the area complexity of the implementations. After analyzing the complexities of the new architecture, we compare the ASIC implementation of the proposed S-box using 0:18µ CMOS technology with the previous ones. It is shown that the presented scheme has the lowest power consumption and area compared to its counterparts available in the open literature.","PeriodicalId":393467,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114386759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of knowledge continues to grow to the spread of global networks, accelerated product cycles and changing market conditions. In this era; a progressive enterprise should strive to adapt itself successfully to new management skills, principles, abilities and higher levels of competency. Also customer demands and their levels of satisfaction are determined by new factors. In this paper, we surveyed related aspects of Knowledge Management in order to be integrated in Quality Management. Finally we have proposed a model of Knowledge Management approaches for supporting Quality Management to achieve higher customer satisfaction.
