It divides the traditional single modulation wave of each phase in SPWM strategy into two modulation waves, which are compared respectively with the carrier to decide the output switch state of the converter. It analyzes the internal relations of the modulation waves between the new strategy and traditional SPWM strategy, and the 64 solutions of the modulation waves of the new strategy are deduced. On the basis of analysis and derivation, the new strategy is simple and easy to be implemented in digital system. Through the analysis of the DC voltage utilization ratio, the device switching losses and the output phase voltage THD characteristics, the new strategy has the disadvantage of larger switch losses and higher harmonic content. Finally, the analysis of this paper is verified by experiment.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123801690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These functions are realized in a very simple manner and can operate adaptively in all sensorless driving modes including motoring/regenerating, steady/transient states. Both methods imitate the behaviors of synchronous generator. With the presence of swing equation, VSG has a virtual inertia, while droop control does not, and the rest of the two control methods are nearly the same. In this paper, the difference brought by the swing equation is studied. Small signal models for both control methods are built to compare the dynamic response during a small loading transition, and state space models are built to analyze the stability of both control methods. The results are verified by simulation in PSCAD/EMTDC.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114685801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The losses, temperatures, and the total cost of ownership (TCO) of an inductor are expressed analytically. All geometric dependencies are summarized in a set of parameters which are calculated using finite element analysis (FEA). Therefore the model does not depend on the actual inductor geometry, instead it only relies on a generalized set of parameters which contain all geometric information. Different inductor geometries only result in different values of parameters. The dynamic thermal model is verified using time dependent FEA, the high frequency winding loss model is verified by measurements. The inductor model is then used to study the effect of changes in inductor geometry on the performance of the device. It is shown that for applications requiring high peak but low average load substantial cost reductions are achieved if the inductor's geometry is optimized and the right inductor topology is selected.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114823528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper provides an overview on the technologies of regenerative energy braking in China. It is first explained that why the ground resistor is popular in China in order to prevent the failure of regeneration. Alternative technology using regenerative inverter and ground supercapacitor is then introduced including main circuit, working mechanism and existing problems. Next, the simulation, status quo and experimental results of the ground supercapacitor energy storage system are discussed in detail for a 200kW prototype system developed in China. Finally, future improvements are mentioned for Chinese braking energy regeneration technology.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124355065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low cost sinusoidal PMSM motors used for fan and blower applications may have large parameter variations and static friction uncertainties. A reliable startup control with smooth operation thus becomes an indispensable requirement for practical applications. A self-commissioning strategy is developed to identify the fan motor parameters when a new application is initiated. These identified parameters are stored in an EEPROM and are used for the field oriented sensorless control of the of the PMSM motor drive. Based on the identified motor parameters, a start-up scheme will apply a series of voltage pulses with proper time durations to each stator winding and the corresponding peak currents are measured for the detection of initial commutation state of the rotor. The proposed scheme will not cause visible rotor vibrations and audio noises during the detection process. The sensorless startup with self-commissioning scheme has been implemented based on a single-chip MCU controller (STM32F0). Experimental results reveal that the proposed scheme can achieve reliable and smooth startup with robust performances.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124033582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
