This paper focuses on the challenges presented by the IH cooking heater, energy storage systems, and solar power generation system and presents the circuits that will solve these challenges. Also, requirements for power devices used for the circuits are specified. The authors also show the effect of reducing the recovery loss when a SiC diode is applied to the boost converter. Moreover, the efficiency characteristics are compared for using the SJ-MOSFET and IGBT in the boost converter. The experimental results revealed that SJ-MOSFET improves the efficiency by 0.3 percentage point more than the IGBT. By using the SiC diode and SJ-MOSFET, efficiency of the boost converter is 98.7 % at rating 5.7 kW and output DC 380 V.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126214498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To solve this problem, electromagnetic levitation technologies have been studied. However, when a flexible thin steel plate with a thickness of less than 0.3 mm is to be levitated, levitation control becomes difficult because the thin plate's flexure increased. We propose a levitation of an ultrathin steel plate that bent to an extent that does not induce plastic deformation. It has been confirmed that vibrations are suppressed and levitation performance improved. In this study, in order to examine the levitation stability and to compare the levitation performance, bending levitation experiments were carried out on the basis of the optimal control and sliding mode control theory using thin steel plate with a thickness of 0.27 mm.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126346160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a cascaded multilevel converter for bidirectional IPT (BIPT) systems, which is suitable for low to medium power applications as well as for situations such as PV cells where several individual DC sources are to be utilized. A novel modulation strategy is proposed for the multilevel converter with the aim of minimizing switching losses. Series - Series (SS) compensation circuit is adopted for the IPT system and a mathematical model is presented to minimize the coil losses of the system under varying output power. Theoretical results presented in comparison to the simulations to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed concept and the validity of the developed model. The experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed phase shift modulation.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125971239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mitigation strategy proposed in this paper is to couple the Y point of the LCL filter capacitors to the DC bus mid-point to connect a virtual neutral to the DC bus, which significantly reduces the high frequency common mode voltages on the bus. However, additional common mode inductances and capacitances are required for this filter, to limit high frequency circulating currents and define the EMI filter breakpoint. Also, the converter current regulator must be split into differential and common mode sections, to eliminate phase coupling between the phase leg active damping current regulators, and to support damping of the common mode EMI filter resonance. The concept is verified by simulations and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127926129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In renewable energy integration filed, some information of unbalanced and distorted grid voltages, such as frequency and phase angle of fundamental wave, should be exactly and quickly detected for reliable operation. Due to the unfavorable transient response and very poor phase angle tracking of PLL based on the positive and negative sequence components decomposition with a quarter cycle delayed α variable and β variable in a stationary α-β reference frame under distorted grid conditions, a fast and exact PLL method by matrix operation of α variable and β variable of grid voltage is proposed. This process is achieved by transforming the positive, negative and low-order harmonics into multiple synchronous reference frames, and then by a matrix operation, the frequency and phase information are extracted. Thus the positive and negative sequences are separated after 5 sampling periods. The paper presents a detailed description and derivation of the proposed PLL method. Simulations and experimental results based on digital signal processor chip TMS320F2812 verify and validate the excellent performance of the new PLL method.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115764965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The control approach is model predictive control where a constrained optimal control problem is solved to minimize the deviation of the torque from its reference. The dynamic model of the converters and drive is nonlinear and considers both the rectifier and inverter firing angles as control input. Controlling both firing angles simultaneously, as opposed to in a cascaded manner, implies improved potential for dynamic performance and disturbance rejection. In particular, the controller handles voltage dips on the line better than a conventional PI controller. The nonlinear MPC solution is implemented through on-line optimization. The optimization algorithm has been implemented on an embedded system and has been shown to execute sufficiently fast for the targeted control frequency.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"3 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113932098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To realize the DC/DC converter for installing on a power distribution system, it should be achieved higher-efficiency and lower-volume. Higher switching frequency enables to reduce the volume of the transformer. However, it is difficult to realize the both higher-efficiency and lower-volume of the DC/DC converter, because it could not operate higher frequency with high power devices such as medium-voltage IGBTs. This paper discusses switching losses and operation limitations for the actual medium-voltage isolated DC/DC converter, in the case of using Si-IGBT. Voltage saturation occurs as a result of this limitation. The settling time of current and speed increases because of voltage saturation. This paper proposes a new control system for improving the transient response of surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) by using the proposed flux-weakening control based on current differential signal. As a result of considering the current differential signal, the suppression of voltage saturation is realized with optimal d-axis current in a transient state. The proposed speed control system realizes the quick and stable speed and current response.
