This paper presents a straightforward approach to calculate the involved panel parasitic capacitance in order to predict the likeliness of such leakage current. A novel 2-D parasitic edge capacitance model is developed to accurately calculate the grounding capacitance of PV panel. Experimental results are obtained on five different PV panels of mono-crystalline, polycrystalline and thin-film type with rated power 10W, 50W and 175W. It is demonstrated that the proposed approach combines easy of applications and satisfying accurateness.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126031319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These circuit breakers are realized using dc/dc choppers which can also perform step-up and/or step-down functions. Compared to the existing topologies, the number of active switches in the proposed configurations are minimized to achieve lower initial cost and higher conversion efficiency. A double closed-loop controller based on PI regulators is designed to regulate the inductor current and output voltage of the converters. An auxiliary controller is also proposed to ensure proper shut-down of the chopper in the event of short-circuit faults. The simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the proposed converter topologies and control scheme.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"9 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123525813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed MSHE-PWM optimizes both the dc-voltage levels and the switching angles, enabling more harmonics to be eliminated without affecting the structure of the inverter circuit. The method also provides constant switching angles and linear pattern of dc voltage levels over the modulation index range. This in turns eliminates the required tedious steps for manipulating the off-line calculated switching angles and therefore, easing the implementation of the MSHE-PWM for dynamic systems. The required variable dc voltage levels are obtained from simple dc-dc boost converter. Current and voltage closed loop controllers are implemented for both the STATCOM and the boost converter to meet the reactive power (VAR) demand for different loading conditions. The proposed approach is validated through both simulation and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125353634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Permanent magnet motor is a major component to realize high torque density with keeping high efficiency. However, when high speed revolution is required for further miniaturization, as well as the large torque in the low speed region, the flux yielded by the permanent magnet encounters a serious trade-off, i.e. the former needs less flux and the latter requires much. The solution for this trade-off is varying the flux. In general, the flux of the permanent magnet is constant, and many efforts are under development to overcome this as to be shown in this paper.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116398116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces new features of the open-source power electronics circuit simulator GeckoCIRCUITS, which enable a more flexible way to generate online content in comparison to iPES. The benefits of interleaving on EMI filter weight reduction are presented. Interleaving can cancel certain order of harmonics in the total output current and reduce the size and weight of the EMI filter to meet certain EMI standard. However, it also creates the voltage difference between the two converters that generate circulating current in the system which increase system loss and device stress. In order to limit the circulating current, additional interphase inductors are needed for motor drive system. The penalty of the circulating current and additional interphase inductors are analyzed in detail. Design examples are given for EMI filter and interphase inductor design, which shows that interleaving will increase the total passive weight due to the additional weight of coupled inductors for motor drive systems. In order to reduce the total weight of the passive components of the system, integration design methods for interphase inductor is proposed which indicates that certain value of AC DM inductance can be integrated with interphase inductors with negligible increase on the weight and the maximum integrated inductance is related with interleaving angle. Verifications are carried out through both the simulations and experiments on a 2kW DC-fed motor drive system.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122485001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is not necessary to know the design data of the motor or finite-element-models for this. Influences are analyzed and the model is verified using measurements and statistical methods.
