The good thermal stability of the converter expected from both SiC MOSFETs at high switching frequency up to 300 kHz and high case temperature of 150 °C has been demonstrated by comparing with Si MOSFET. Faster turn-on switching time for SiC MOSFETs, compared with Si MOSFET leads to reduced turn-on switching losses, and consequently the heat sink temperature at 300 kHz switching frequency reaches only at around 50 °C in natural convection. The experimental results given in this paper show that SiC technologies aid in improving reliability of solar PV inverters by enhancing thermal stability of the system.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133096131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using an inductor and three capacitors, called LC3, novel characteristics such as high efficiency and power factor (PF) with extremely long life time are achieved. The proposed LED driver has a temperature-robust characteristic because its power is hardly changed by temperature, selecting the number of LED in series ns appropriately so that the LED power variation due to temperature change in LED can be zero. For analyzing LED power of the proposed LED driver, the phasor transformation technique is applied, which is firstly applied to a non-linear diode rectifier modeling. Nevertheless this non-linear switching, the proposed analyses agreed well with simulation and experiment results. A prototype LED driver showed very high power efficiency of 96.7 % at 60 W, meeting high PF of 0.95 and low THD of 10.1 %, though a reasonably small filter was used.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115448578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The strategy is based on a multiple frequency tuned quasi-proportional resonant (PR) controller for the AC current loop. A notch filter is used in the DC bus voltage loop to filter out the ripple affecting the controller. A feed-forward loop is included in the inner current control loop to deal with AC power supply disturbances. The impact of the quasi-PR controller parameters on its performance is investigated through frequency-domain analysis. The generation of the low-order harmonics of the line current caused by the DC-link voltage fluctuations is analyzed from the control point of view. Simulation results presented in the paper validate that the proposed control strategy provides a better current tracking performance and a lower current harmonic content when compared with other more conventional control strategies.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115593518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However it is hard to control the crane because of its underactuated structure. The most important control requirement is to make the trolley position converge to target position accurately with suppressing payload sway. This makes it possible to achieve the purpose of overhead crane which is to convey payload to target position stably. In the practical implementation, however, the achievement of both conveying trolley to target position and suppressing payload sway is not always easy. In this paper, emulating natural damping method is proposed. The natural damping is defined as energy damping of crane system caused by trolley friction. Not only trolley but also payload energy is damped by natural damping effect. The proposed approach brings to achieve both trolley position convergence and payload sway suppression.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127127108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such, in order to achieve a high-performance control, the gains of the current and speed controller must be tuned according to the operating state. In this study, we propose an auto-tuning method for a current and speed controller based on the parameter identification. First, the resistance, including the on-resistance of the IGBT, and the d- and q-axis inductances are identified at standstill. Second, after the motor starts up, the magnet flux linkage, the inertia moment, and the viscous friction coefficient are also identified using the parameters identified at standstill. Finally, the controller gains are determined by substituting the identified values into the derived relationship between control gains and motor parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified experimentally.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127353754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each cascaded converter is composed of series connection of H-bridge converters, and connected between one phase in the sending end and the other phase in receiving end. While each cascaded converter control only reactive power through itself, the active and reactive power flows are controllable. Using multilevel cascaded converter topology, this power flow controller is expected to be applied to more high-voltage and high-power applications and to have fault ride through capabilities. Especially, the MP-TFPMLSM is composed of symmetrical multi-phase and multiple-module structures, which are basically three-phase configurations. Hence, in this paper, a d-axis current control applying the d-q transformation and the independent vector control are proposed for the air gap control between two symmetric stators and mover of the MP-TFPMLSM. The control performance and characteristics of the MP-TFPMLSM, which is based on two basic three-phase structures of the air gap control and the position control of multi-phase linear machines using a concept of vector control are analyzed. As a result, the air gap control by using the independent vector control is a suitable method to efficiently control the interaction between stator and mover of the MP-TFPMLSM. The proposed method is easily implemented and has less computation time to design controllers for operating the multi-phase machines. The effectiveness of the proposed independent vector control algorithm is verified through several experimental results.","PeriodicalId":393430,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Hiroshima 2014 - ECCE ASIA)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124793175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
