The research sample included 30 patients with schizophrenia. After evaluating the patients with questionnaires, the FROGS (Functional Remission of General Schizophrenia) Scale, Morisky Compliance Scale and Drug Attitude Inventory, the “Social and Independent Living Skills, The Community Re-entry Program” (SILSCRP) has been applied, and the same tests have been reapplied after the 6th month of the training to the patients who had been followed up by monthly phone calls. Evaluating the average scores of the functional recovery scale and its subscales in schizophrenia patients, it has been found that the overall total score was 52.1 and the Social Functioning Subscale total score was 19.6, respectively. It has been determined in the paper that the SILSCRP training given to the patients with schizophrenia has affected the functionalities and the medication compliance of the patients positively. The SILSCRP training program has increased the functionalities and medication compliance of the patients with schizophrenia. Training and rehabilitation in the chronic mental disorders should be prominent in our country.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1305229","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44059813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 151 rescue workers was taken from Gujrat by using the convenience sampling technique. Personal Views Survey III-R (PVSIII-R) by Maddi (2001), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) by Cohen (1994) and Brief Cope Inventory (BCI) by Carver (1997) were individually administered to the participants to investigate the hardiness, stress and coping strategies, respectively. Findings of Pearson Product Moment Correlation indicated significant negative correlations among stress and hardiness, stress and problem-focused coping, and positive relationship between stress and avoidant coping. Mediation analysis revealed that coping plays a mediating role between stress and hardiness. These findings hold implications for rescue workers so that they can increase levels of hardiness and ameliorate the usage of effective coping strategies to cope with stressful situations.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1356033","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44111468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to identify what services are advertised, who offers these services, and the methods used to diagnose and treat these conditions. Adverts were randomly collected from a free community newspaper and analyzed by two independent coders using thematic data analysis. The results indicate that services were offered for various conditions such as relationship issues, the resolution of financial problems, winning lotteries, getting jobs or promotions, the removal of bewitchment, and help with medical and legal problems. Various treatments are also advertised. Findings are conceptualized within a South African indigenous belief system, which attributes causality of ill-health or misfortune to bewitchment and healing through traditional practices. It is recommended that “Western” trained healthcare providers be aware of the availability of these services and their use by “Westernized” or globalized Africans for problem resolution.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1325175","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41339659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It included 20 voluntary male boxers. The athletes were separated into two groups as the control group (n = 10) and Quercetin group (n = 10). The athletes were supplemented with 500 mg quercetin for 30 days before their exercise programs. Blood samples were drawn from the athletes before and after exercising. MDA, SOD, CAT and GSH analysis were performed. According to the findings, there were an increase in the MDA levels of the control group (P<0.01) and a significant decrease in the MDA levels of quercetin group (P<0.001) when they were compared after being given quercetin. The levels of antioxidant enzymes SOD, CAT and GSH significantly increased in quercetin group (P<0.001). As a conclusion; it can be said that quercetin supplement has protective effect against oxidative stress by decreasing the amount of MDA, which is the end-product of lipid peroxidation and increasing the activity levels of the antioxidant enzymes SOD, CAT and GSH.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1305225","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44523349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Questionnaire cum interview method was used for data collection. Results of the study showed that both government hospitals needed to be strengthened in terms of medical staff, infrastructure and equipments and techniques. It was observed that at GBPH there was only one doctor to take care of the women. The same hospital did not have adequate stock of medicines and lagged behind technologically. Results indicate towards a lower utilization of health care facilities such as 108 ambulance facility and aganwadi services among women respondents. Almost half the respondents were not aware of the benefits of Janani Suraksha Yojana. The study suggests need to increase awareness on reproductive health issues of women and popularization of government schemes.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1305222","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43603501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors estimate the parameters, construct the score test as well as the shrinkage estimation, and explore how to deal with the medical service assessment. The recovery curves are obtained with dynamic investigation data from the US Shriners Hospitals and achieved medical service assessment in the empirical analysis. The recovery curve can explore the recovery of the burned children visually and comprehensively. With this model it is easy to give a comprehensive assessment on burn recovery from different aspects such as physics, social psychology, and so on. The method proposed in this paper is also available in the comprehensive assessment which is generally used in a social research.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1316948","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48766978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the study, New Zealand type rabbits were placed into a trauma model. The rabbits were divided into three groups. In the 1st group PRP was applied just after the trauma, in the 2nd group PRP was applied one day after the trauma and in the 3rd group PRP was not applied. Fibrosis decreased in the groups in which PRP was applied in the first day or in the first hour but fibrosis increased in the control group steadily. Dystrophic calcification developed less in the group in which PRP was applied in the first hour compared with t he control group. It is concluded that particularly with its effect on dystrophic calcification, PRP may reduce the possibility of re-injuries and and help athletes in terms of returning to sports more quickly.","PeriodicalId":39279,"journal":{"name":"Studies on Ethno-Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/09735070.2017.1311694","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41314875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
