The design of e-comic for English reading material can be considered to make the students interested and motivated in learning English during online environment. This research focused on designing English reading material about recount text for grade eight. The research design was R&D based on ADDE by Richey and Klein consisted of analyze, design, develop, and evaluation. The subject of this research was the 8.4 class students which consisted of 25 students. The instruments were interview and questionnaires. The researcher was analyzed the data by using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The results of the research showed that the practicality of e-comic was very high (91.5%). {"title":"Modified DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) Strategy to Enhance Students' Reading Comprehension","authors":"Nelvia Kurnia","doi":"10.31629/juliet.v3i2.4846","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31629/juliet.v3i2.4846","url":null,"abstract":"The objective of this research was to boost students' reading comprehension of narrative text by modifying DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy at X MIPA 3 students of SMA Negeri 1 Bintan Timur. The research design was classroom action research. This study held at two cycles with four meetings in each cycle. The subjects of this research were X MIPA 3 students which made up 36 students. The research instruments applied to gather the data were observation checklist and reading comprehension test. The result showed that students' percentage whose got score ≥ 75 in cycle 1 and cycle 2 were higher than preliminary study. There were 63,88% students in cycle 1 and 88,88% students in cycle 2. It showed that the students' percentage whose got score ≥ 75 improved and meet the criterion of success was 70%. The observation checklist's results also showed that modified DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy was successful in enhanciing students' classroom participation. The students' participation had been reached 83% in cycle 2. From the result, ≥ 40% students participated in the teaching and learning activities when the strategy was implemented. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Tanjungpinang in the academic year of 2021/2022. The authors selected class VIII.4 which the number of students was 31 as the object of this study. The authors used quantitative methodology and the design was a pre-experimental design in which the authors used one-group pre-test/post-test with treatment. In this study, the authors used an oral test as the instrument of this study. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It could be seen from data calculated using paired sample t-test formula. Based on the data calculated, it could be seen that the significance was 0.133. It was normal because 0.133 > 0.005. While the Sig. 2 tailed was 0.000. It means that there is a significant effect of using zoom application on student’s speaking skills at 8th grade of SMP Negeri 11 Tanjungpinang because the sig.2 tailed 0.000< 0.005. The researcher focused on the relationship between students' vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension in this study. The researcher employed a quantitative method in their investigation. The sample in this study was 30 students at seventh grade in SMPN 4 Senayang. 20 items for vocabulary mastery and 10 items for reading comprehension in a multiple-choice test were used to collect data for this study. The Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to analyze the data. The correlation coefficient variable of mastery of vocabulary and reading comprehension was 0.473 based on the data obtained by the authors. The correlation coefficient was 0.473, which is placed between 0.400.0.600 was seen in the table. The correlation is moderate correlation. As a result, Ho is rejected, while Ha is accepted. The reserach used quantitative method with method using quasi-experimental design. The study sample was divided into two groups: experimental and control. In this study, the authors was applied online learning considering the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. The pre-test was given at the beginning of the study in each class, and then followed by given the treatment of the roundtable technique in composing descriptive text in the experimental class and small group discussion in the control class. After that, a post-test was given at the end of the study. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by using SPSS 21. The findings of the independent t-test revealed that the significant value generated Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 smaller than 0.05. The data was taken from the ninth semester consisting 37 students by using purposive sampling. The instrument for collecting data are open-ended and close-ended questionnaires. The result of the study showed that the participants are following all of the PLP program’s requirements. The research design in this study was descriptive qualitative research. The participants of this study were the English teacher and students of XI MIPA class in the English subject at SMA NEGERI 6 Tanjungpinang in the academic year of 2020/2021. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires in this study was developed by Song (2010) there were 5 indicators, namely students’ interest, ease of access, perceived usefulness, perceived instruction delivery, and students’ satisfaction. Then, the interviews in this study was developed by Almrashdeh (2011) there were 3 indicators, namely planning of specific learning process, implementation of specific learning process, and assessment of specific learning process. The Indonesian government also encourages the use of the case method as one of the methods emphasized in the Key Performance Indicators of Higher Education (IKU) guidelines. This article presents a literature review of the case study by exploring the benefits and the challenges of implementing this method in the classroom. Besides, an alternative scenario of the case study implementation in English for Medical Purposes is also presented.
