Recently, there has been a noticeable wide transition to composite materials with improved strength properties. To justify the use of such materials, it is necessary to be guided by statistical laws of electrical strength distribution from various parameters, particularly the size of insulation, and its volume, to analyze breakdown probabilities. When selecting an appropriate type of material, one should also rely on the filler's type, size, and structure, temperature coefficient difference of linear expansion for electrode and cast insulation materials, and a possible increase in adhesion of metal elements epoxy compounds. The article considers in detail the issues of determining the distribution of electrical strength from various parameters, describes the theories of dielectric failure and ways to increase insulation, and also presents for the first time the experience of high-quality adhesion of electrodes with composite materials in the absence and pre-application of a small layer of compound on the electrode surface before the main filling with solid insulation. The presented results cover experiments on the strength of cast epoxy insulation samples when activating the electrode surface with alkali, potassium dichromate, and in the absence of activation. At the same time, for a better understanding of the ongoing processes and changes in the electric field strength, the main influencing factors and the mechanisms of the electrical breakdown development are taken into account.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45903947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper presents a comprehensive comparison between the SVPWM and SPWM for the dynamic response of synchronverter. This comparison aspects contain: the grid frequency, the active and reactive power, line current and its THD and rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) in case of using both modulation techniques. Despite the complexity of using SVPWM, it has several advantages over SPWM. With the increased penetration of renewable energy sources in power systems, the system inertia is reduced, and the frequency deviations becomes greater and faster. The results of this paper show that SVPWM contributes to reducing the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) which enhances the system inertia. The results show a more stable behavior of SVPWM than the SPWM. Moreover, SVPWM reduces the total harmonics distortion (THD) of the current by 7% as compared to SPWM. Furthermore, the use of SVPWM reduces the complexity and the cost of the used filter. Matlab/Simulink is used for results validation.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46777218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Novel technology integration is being considered in order to provide more flexibility resources to the power system to absorb more renewable energy. A flexibility analysis based on the International Energy Agency methodology provided an overall estimation of the flexibility needs and resources of the Bulgarian and Cypriot power systems. Additionally, several flexibility indices have been calculated providing indications of the potential that both systems have to serve more volatile renewable energy sources without jeopardizing the balancing requirements for frequency regulation and security of supply. A detailed algorithm has been developed, in close cooperation with the national stakeholders in Bulgaria and Cyprus, in order to simulate the variations in demand and generation for the following years and calculate statistical indices for flexibility, such as the Insufficient Ramping Rate expectation and Flexibility Residual, apart from the traditional Loss of Load Expectation used in adequacy studies.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49341092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solar PV technology is the most reliable and cost-effective technology compared to other renewable energy technologies. To minimize the cost of production and pollution, it is very essential to improve the techno-economic parameters of the technology and have a better understanding of the development of solar PV technology but the efficiency of solar PV technology depends on various environmental factors. Irradiation and temperature are the main inputs in solar PV technology. Again both the terms depend on greenhouse content and its concentration in the atmosphere. Due to the influence of many factors, the forecasting of the solar PV performance in terms of output is a difficult task. So various comparative analysis has been used for forecasting solar PV power. This paper has analysed support vector machines through the MATLAB simulation model for forecasting the performance parameters of the solar PV system. An experiment has been conducted at NRRI, Cuttack in collecting real-time data for analysis.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48713189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed work presents the new Quasi- Z Source Inverter to improve the effectiveness by drop in conduction loss of the system. High boost capability with smaller capacitance and inductance makes the system output stable, which is also suitable for Photovoltaic and Fuel cell based renewable energy systems. The existing DC link in the converter system has been replaced by X shape connected capacitors and inductors in Z source network with common ground connection. the new Quasi- Z Source Inverter increases the output voltage range with improved power factor, reduced harmonics and has good ride through capability. Photovoltaic fed quasi-Z source inverter is employed nowadays for its high potential to integrate with power systems. The proposed converter reduces the damping of the grid connected grid connected system to reduce the transient interactions. Unipolar PWM technique is employed to reduce the THD of the system. MATLAB simulink has been employed to simulate the proposed method and the prototype has been developed to verify the simulink.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43576593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Czech Republic, the research of predictions of technical losses on the transmission system can be considered as novel and important topic. Using software possibilities can be appropriately utilized in the frame of estimations of the technical losses. While they cannot be eliminated, they may be minimized. Losses can be measured or calculated using transmission-line parameters. This causality is considered in the form of the presented and proposed mathematical equations including real measured data of the atmospheric temperatures achieved on the substations selected in the Moravian-Silesian region. In this contribution, results of proposed calculations of technical losses based only on line parameters considering the ambient temperature are being compared in relation to a particular transmission system using prediction software. Particularly, technical losses caused by a configuration change of a selected part of a transmission system are considered related to the operation of Dlouhe Strane pumped storage hydro power plant. As can be conclude, after the resulted comparisons using by the proposed mathematical models in software and the obtained real measured data, general minimization of the losses is necessary to create the most accurate models of the states that might occur in the future and to propose required modifications of the given part of the transmission system. Future bounded research can be focused on the sensors situated on the transmission lines instead of the substations.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49655612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed model is derived based on: (i) the PMSG torque current equations, (ii) the relationships between PMSG voltages/currents in q-axis and d-axis, and (iii) the equations of WPP powers (namely: turbine mechanical power input, WPP power loss and power output). Application of the proposed model in representative electric power distribution system is also investigated and presented in this paper. The results of the investigation confirm the proposed model validity. The confirmation can also be verified by observing the load flow analysis results where, for each value of turbine power, the substation power output plus the WPP power output is always equal to the total system load plus total line loss (the line loss has been calculated based on the impedances and currents of the distribution lines).","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48920115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is fundamentally different in the way of supplying energy to the reaction zone from the reactors currently in operation in industry. This significantly reduces energy consumption, simplifies process control and increases the efficiency of the reactor. The environmental advantage of the developed reactor is also of great importance. There are no emissions of gases into the atmosphere, which are formed in large quantities during fuel combustion in superheating furnaces, the consumption of water is reduced, which is used only in a closed cycle to cool the microwave generator and circulator as a matching load during its operation. The overall efficiency of the electrodynamic reactor is 1.2 times higher than that of existing industrial ones. A method for calculating thermodynamic processes in electrodynamic reactors is proposed. It allows you to determine the technological parameters of the process to ensure a given temperature distribution and provides the maximum yield of the target reaction products with the minimum possible energy consumption of electromagnetic radiation.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42660897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, it is possible to optimize the network operators’ income by increasing the incentives for upgrading the quality indexes. In this paper, it's proposed an evaluation algorithm of the connection points of multiple microgrids in a distribution system that upgrades the reliability of the system as a whole, being based in complex network analysis (CNA), a perspective of power systems that allows the evaluation of an electrical system as a graph. For that, a model of a trial system is made from the CNA point of view utilizing the MATLAB software and afterwards, as validation of the proposal of this work, the system's reliability is evaluated by connecting multiple microgrids into critical nodes provided by the CNA making use of the NEPLAN tool of power systems simulation.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44406525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
