This study analyzes the relationship between motivation forms from self-determination theory and the concept of person-organization (PO) fit to provide insight into some of the factors that can influence high-tech R&D employees' IWB. Survey data from R&D employees in three high-tech organizations show that employees with higher levels of PO fit have higher levels of autonomous (identified and intrinsic) work motivation and that autonomously motivated employees engage in more frequent IWB. Autonomous motivation forms mediate PO fit's relationship with IWB. Furthermore, pay justice (i.e., distributive justice) and organization support of creativity are significantly associated with PO fit, indicating that these may be useful for managers to consider in relation to employee fit, motivation, and innovative work behavior. Ultimately, managers interested in fostering innovative behavior of R&D employees would be prudent to seek congruence between employee and organization values and support employees' autonomous motivation.

","PeriodicalId":38944,"journal":{"name":"Journal of High Technology Management Research","volume":"30 2","pages":"Article 100350"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.hitech.2019.100350","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91738607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The findings indicate that individuals in family businesses prefer to combine both tablets and smartphones in their purchases, rather than separately. Younger individuals report an adoption preference towards smartphones, while older individuals are inclined towards tablets. The theoretical contributions encompass both the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the social cognitive theory (SCT). Individuals working in a family business exhibit a curious behaviour and they are becoming early adopters. TAM helps explain this behaviour as they tend to try new novelties exploring the potential usefulness they might derive; these technological advancements allow them to connect with customers and partners. By contrast, SCT helps gain a better understanding on young and old individuals' behaviour. The younger generations seem to be easily influenced by their peers with a tendency to technologies which are fun and allow them to build connections. Older individuals are equally influenced by their peers, with the difference that their social circle being more mature (e.g., business owners, professionals). This combined with the complexity of the technology orients them into adopting tablets more easily than smartphones.

","PeriodicalId":38944,"journal":{"name":"Journal of High Technology Management Research","volume":"30 2","pages":"Article 100351"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.hitech.2019.100351","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91738606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our objective is to synthesize which are the challenges and opportunities of adopting i4.0 from the perspective of technology provider companies. A single-case research was conducted with ten companies at the Portuguese Production Technologies Cluster. Based on i4.0 technologies – Augmented reality; Additive Manufacturing; Big Data; Cloud Computing; Cyber-Physical Systems; Cybersecurity; Smart Robotics; Simulation; and System Integration – interviewees mentioned that the main adoption challenges are the analysis of data generated, integration of new technologies with available equipment and workforce, and computational limitations. The main opportunities are improvements in: efficiency; flexibility; productivity; cybersecurity; quality of products and services; and decision process due to data analysis. Interviewees have also foreseen changes in company's business model through the integration of internal resources with complementary activities of their partners and other cluster companies.

","PeriodicalId":38944,"journal":{"name":"Journal of High Technology Management Research","volume":"30 2","pages":"Article 100355"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.hitech.2019.100355","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126857919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A full-network sample was used to estimate a manager's centrality in both the strategy/management decision-making network and technical/operations communication network. Using a structural equation model, the results indicated that strong ties in the strategic/management decision making centrality network resulted in a less accurate perception of the dominant culture. Management decision making centrality, however, was also related to less emotional exhaustion. On the other hand, technical/operations centrality resulted in higher levels of exhaustion and a more accurate perception of the dominant organizational culture. The study also showed that differences in a manager's perception of organizational culture impacted cynicism.

","PeriodicalId":38944,"journal":{"name":"Journal of High Technology Management Research","volume":"30 1","pages":"Pages 59-69"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.hitech.2018.12.004","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131468717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We posit that such innovating firms use strategic signals that address technical-, market-, and standards-uncertainty associated with their innovations to communicate with market participants to reduce participants' perceived uncertainties associated with the innovative products. Studying technology followers and niche market producers in the personal computer industry during its 1982–1989 shakeout period, we found that technology followers and niche market producers differ in their use of technical-, market-, and standards-related signals. Additionally, using event study methodology, we find that technology followers' strategic signals have significant positive impacts on both their own and other followers' stock prices. Meanwhile, niche market producers' strategic signals have significant positive impacts on their own stock prices, but not significant impacts on other niche market producers and technology followers' stock prices.

","PeriodicalId":38944,"journal":{"name":"Journal of High Technology Management Research","volume":"30 1","pages":"Pages 70-81"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.hitech.2018.12.002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116139880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We illustrate these effects by empirical evidence relating to case-law decisions, notably Alice Corp. Pty. v. CLS Bank International (hereafter, Alice v. CLS Bank or Alice). In order to eliminate the ambiguity of legal practice of these two systems in relation to patent law, the patent office has been inspired by and aligned with the work of the judicial system and developed an analytical model concerning the application of the law. The effectiveness of this workable standard is then evaluated on the basis of its influence on firm value. The results suggest that the publication of the workable standard, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Interim Guidance, has had a significant positive impact on companies which have completely modified their patent strategies in line with the new USPTO policy. We conclude that the uniformity of legal approach by the judicial and administrative systems decreases legal uncertainty and contributes to financial performance. Consequently, a workable standard with clear and precise legal approaches enables the patent system to develop efficiently.

","PeriodicalId":38944,"journal":{"name":"Journal of High Technology Management Research","volume":"30 1","pages":"Pages 50-58"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.hitech.2018.12.005","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133499147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A key factor in the adoption of mobile commerce is the compatibility that the consumer perceives with his/her life. Given that the research on compatibility with mobile purchases made so far treats it as an antecedent of adoption, this pioneer research studies the influencing role of two more personal factors (self-efficacy and innovativeness) and two factors more related to the shopping (involvement and perceived entertainment). The model was tested using PLS with information from 583 Mexican mobile buyers. Our results show a positive effect of innovativeness, involvement and perceived entertainment on compatibility. On the contrary, self-efficacy does not seem to influence the perception of compatibility of mobile shopping with consumer life.
