Soon after the elections, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced plans to pass the premiership to his son, General Hun Manet, with broader generational change set to occur simultaneously in the ruling Cambodian People’s Party. Cambodia’s foreign policy, partly in preparation for this transition, has shifted from close alignment with China to a hedging posture in an effort to give the state more options in choosing its international partners.","PeriodicalId":38903,"journal":{"name":"Strategic Comments","volume":"29 1","pages":"i - iv"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45108874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Turkiye’s economy is on the precipice of full-blown crisis, with living standards having fallen due to a surge of inflation that began in late 2021. Ankara faces important questions about the status of the estimated 3.5 million Syrian refugees in the country, and also about Ankara’s broad foreign-policy orientation, with Erdoğan arguing that his confrontational attitude towards the West is proof that Turkiye had been transformed into an independent power.","PeriodicalId":38903,"journal":{"name":"Strategic Comments","volume":" ","pages":"i - iii"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47373220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are, however, gaps in the sanctions regime, and some hard currency held by Moscow has flowed abroad, where it has been invested productively. The Spring Budget, launched by the government in March 2023, aims to make investments and policy changes that will help secure the UK’s existing advantages in the digital and clean-energy industries. For 30 years, Warsaw’s eastern policy has prepared for and attempted to deter potential territorial aggression by Moscow. Since the invasion, Poland has been one of the most enthusiastic providers of military assistance to Ukraine – notable in light of the countries’ shared history. More broadly, while Poland will support efforts by European Union member states to increase the bloc’s security and defence capacities, it will only do so to the extent that these efforts do not take resources away from NATO.","PeriodicalId":38903,"journal":{"name":"Strategic Comments","volume":"29 1","pages":"iv - vi"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47489549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The surprise victory of the progressive Move Forward Party was a more significant liberal breakthrough than any seen in Southeast Asia since the 1990s. Yet the party and its leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, are engaged in difficult coalition negotiations that will last until July, and it is unclear whether Pita will become prime minister. If Move Forward is able to form a government, it will experience turbulence in the years ahead.","PeriodicalId":38903,"journal":{"name":"Strategic Comments","volume":"29 1","pages":"xi - xiii"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44465028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
