It was founded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with the key objective of broadening the range of translated literatures available to the wider English-speaking public. The Prize was created in 2017 and it has been awarded four times to date. Accordingly, building on a brief overview of the broader role of prizes and awards within the global literary translation market, the genesis and rationale which underpin the EBRD Literature Prize are presented and highlighted. This information provides the basis for the subsequent exploratory analysis, which uses the regional groupings of the EBRD’s countries of operations as a preliminary framework of reference. As such, using the relevant publicly-available data, the geographical and linguistic origins of the translated literary works which have been shortlisted and longlisted for the Prize are outlined and discussed. The main aim is to determine whether any specific trends can be identified in the relevant works. Subsequently, the findings of these observations are presented, and, in recognition of the exploratory nature of this contribution, some possible indicators for additional research on the topic are offered.

The lexical material of the Ukrainian dialects of the Carpathians and dialects of the Bulgarian language allows us to identify within the framework of the article some semantic models and shifts that exist in time designations: orientation in the names of months to phenological cycles and periods of work; perception of the concept of "time" displayed by vocabulary as a favorable or unfavorable time for any activity or life in general; nomination of morning as the appearance of daylight or a period of time slightly removed in the past from the moment of speech; borrowings are also noted as part of the vocabulary denoting time in its various manifestations. Based on the analysis of dictionaries of the Carpathian-Ukrainian and Bulgarian dialects, it is concluded that this vocabulary represents semantic models of names of time periods that have parallels in other Slavic and some non-Slavic languages. Taking into account the wide distribution in the linguistic territory of Slavia, as well as beyond its borders, it is possible to assume the status of these models as semantic archetypes, represented in their totality in the Carpathian-Ukrainian and Bulgarian dialects.

The following parameters of the expert speech, based on research on the specifics of the professional and media register (Halliday 1989, Videnov 2012 and others), in the media texts were observed: presence, adequacy and naming of the sources - expert and informational; presence of professional vocabulary and terminology; complicating the syntactic organization of utterances; presence of international vocabulary and foreign words and expressions; presence of evaluative and expressive vocabulary (metaphors, etc.); use of modal and conditional constructions to distinguish factual from non-factual information; correlation of indicative and retelling forms. A survey was conducted to establish the influence of linguistic facts on the assessment of expert speech in media reports. A survey was conducted on sentences from 14 informational articles selected using the keywords "coronavirus experts". The questionnaire contained 12 multiple-choice questions, grouped into three sections according to the criteria to be measured: trustworthiness (6 questions), clarity (3 questions) and authority (3 questions). The comments establish a different influence of the same language parameters on the sense of trustworthiness, authority and clarity of the content. Their reading depends on the experience, skills and attitudes of the audience to understand the media text.

They reveal a sustainable model of nomination, transmitted in the modern ways for linguistic expression of the more distant kinship. The word-forming model of one-part cognate terms formed with prefixes пра or прѣ is historically productive, and retains its vitality from the past to the contemporary times. There are both established, commonly used and of high-frequency representatives, and rare ones. Although one can suppose the influence of the corresponding Greek term, respectively the attempt to calque it, the distant kinship provoked the use of a domestic fund, as the mentioned prefixes, which mark the temporal anteriority and the feature ‘old, aged’. It is not coincidental that in the traditional popular culture the expression “up to the ninth generation” implies the distant kinship. Distant kinship was obviously important in the times of the Ottoman domination, when the family played a major role in preserving identity. Positions in more distant genealogy were a challenge to the Slavic translators of Byzantine legal writings on the degrees of kinship from the late Middle Ages. They enriched the kinship terminology with new representatives.

Intermediality as a form of interconnectedness of different types of art is challenging for literature and intermedial approach is the main research method used in the article.\u0000The aim is to study the interaction of verbal and audio (music), verbal and visual (coloristic and architectural models) arts in the literary text - "A Ballad for Georg Henig" (the object of research). The subject is the codes of intermediality that are revealed not only at the level of the musical ekphrasis. The scientific novelty of the research contributes to the functioning of the features of "urboekphrasis", "oikoekphrasis", "picture-ekphrasis", fantastic images depicting the threshold situation of the "ekphrastic transition" in the work by Viktor Paskov.\u0000Results of the research. Having determined the correlation of the concepts "intertextuality", "intermediality", "ekphrasis", we concluded that "A Ballad for Georg Henig" has all three variants of interaction. The study outlines the intertextual connections with the work of J. Goethe "Der Erlkönig". It is determined that the music artefact permeates the text at all levels of its structure and enables to consider it as an ekphrasis (musical ekphrasis).\u0000Practical significance: our article contributes to the pool of research works on the intermedial studies, analysing the work by Viktor Paskov that has not been done before and provokes to further scientific challenges.
