In order to implement the multi-band system based on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique, a wideband frequency synthesizer is required. But, when using broadband frequency synthesizer, serious phase noise problem occurs at the transceiver. In addition, when using MIMO scheme, IQ imbalance is a critical impairment as it causes inter carrier interferences (ICI), that results in severe degradation of the receive performance. Therefore, a joint phase noise and IQ imbalance compensation technique is needed at the receiver for LTE-advanced system with CA and MIMO. In this article, we analyze the effects of the phase noise and IQ imbalance in dual band MIMO-OFDM system, and propose a novel compensation scheme in order to enhance the system performance. From the simulation results, it can be seen that phase noise and IQ imbalance cause serious performance degradation of dual-band MIMO-OFDM system, and the proposed schemes has significantly improved BER performance by concurrent suppression of ICI due to phase noise and IQ imbalance.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134568831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The network capacity performance with varying cell densities has been studied with system-level simulations. The results show that under a particular assumption of traffic load, denser small cells per floor may even degrade the downlink performance due to the higher inter-cell interference. However, the uplink performance can always benefit from the cell densification. This paper can serve as essential guidelines for indoor small cell deployment. It is recommended that careful considerations need to be taken if an operator intends to improve network performance by adding cells to their networks.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131696515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HTTP adaptive streaming requires accurate information about available bandwidth of client for quality adaptation. Accurate estimation of available bandwidth is difficult, as a suitable approach must address three challenges. First, it must be accurate enough to make decisions about the admission of high-throughput high-quality streams. Second, it must be fast enough to determine the video quality. Last, it should be non-intrusive to streaming traffic. In this paper we propose a new bandwidth estimation scheme, called an Efficient Bandwidth Estimation (EBE), for HTTP adaptive streaming. To provide information which is needed to determine the representation level of HTTP adaptive streaming, the EBE scheme uses the difference between the bitrate of representation levels. We show that our approach is accurate, fast, and non-intrusive compared with other schemes.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116177246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Detecting these attacks is quite tough for network operators using misuse-based IDSs because they need to see through attackers and upgrade their IDSs by adding new accurate attack signatures. In this paper, we proposed a novel signal and image processing-based method for detecting network probe and DoS attacks in which prior knowledge of attacks is not required. The method uses a time-frequency representation technique called S-transform, which is an extension of Wavelet Transform, to reveal abnormal frequency components caused by attacks in a traffic signal (e.g., a time-series of the number of packets). Firstly, S-Transform converts the traffic signal to a two-dimensional image which describes time-frequency behavior of the traffic signal. The frequencies that behave abnormally are discovered as abnormal regions in the image. Secondly, Otsu's method is used to detect the abnormal regions and identify time that attacks occur. We evaluated the effectiveness of the proposed method with several network probe and DoS attacks such as port scans, packet flooding attacks, and a low-intensity DoS attack. The results clearly indicated that the method is effective for detecting the probe and DoS attack streams which were generated to real-world Internet.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121461134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, software defined networking (SDN) emerges as a viable solution to facilitate the deployment of new networking protocols and algorithms without disrupting production traffic by decoupling the control plane from the data forwarding plane. In this paper, we propose an SDN-based content delivery framework, called C-flow, which supports name-based routing and caching without disrupting production traffic in the legacy IP network. For that purpose, a content name is mapped to an IP address for ICN-like operations. We describe how C-flow supports the usage of in-network storage and content-based operations for legacy hosts. We also show how SDN functionalities in C-flow enhances the efficiency of content deliveries by dynamic re-routing, parallel transmissions and cache management.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126192139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to various academic and industry surveys, two-tier macrocell-femtocell networks should be the key network architecture to reduce the total power consumption of the MBSs. Also, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems are expected to improve the network capacity with full mobility. In this paper, an efficient power-saving transmission mechanism is proposed in two-tier LTE macrocell-femtocell networks for dynamically managing transceivers at femtocell BSs (FBSs) to improve the energy-saving performance. The proposed mechanism allows grouped FBSs to smartly activate/deactivate, respectively, based on dynamic traffic loads, to address the energy minimization problem for transceivers at both MBSs and FBSs, while maintaining at a pre-determined data rate. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed one is able to achieve a much better energy-saving performance, when compared with that of existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115554258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigate the problem of designing a joint pricing and capacity planning scheme from the IaaS provider's perspective. Specifically, we first study the SaaS providers' optimal decisions in terms of the amount of end-user requests to admit and the number of VMs to lease, given the resource price charged by the IaaS provider. Next, based on the best responses of the SaaS providers, we study joint pricing and capacity planning to maximize the IaaS provider's profit, which is determined by the revenue obtained through supplying the VMs and the energy cost for maintaining the active servers. By exploring the relationship between the optimal capacity and price, we simplify the original optimization problem into the a convex problem with respect to the price, and then we derive the expressions of the optimal solutions. Finally, the numerical results illustrate the efficacy of our proposed joint pricing and capacity planning scheme.","PeriodicalId":388486,"journal":{"name":"The International Conference on Information Networking 2014 (ICOIN2014)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134257859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are characterized by a scale-free power-law degree distribution, a small average path length (small world phenomenon), a high average clustering coefficient, and the emergence of community structure. Most proposed complex networks models did not incorporate all of the four common properties of complex networks. Models have also neglected incorporating the heterogeneous nature of network nodes. In this paper, we propose two generation models for heterogeneous complex networks. We introduce the Integrated Attribute Similarity Model (IASM). IASM uses preferential attachment to connect nodes based on their attributes similarities integrated with node's structural popularity (normalized degree or Eigen vector centrality).
