A pertinent question, therefore, is whether adult and community education, in its current packaging in Kenya, is empowering the participants to engage in using e-consumer services actively, meaningfully, and in beneficial ways in their daily transactions. This study, therefore, sought to investigate the level of integration of e-Consumer elements in Adult and Community Education. The study adopted a mixed-method research study targeting adult learners in Nairobi County, adult education officers, and adult education instructors. The study collected data using interviews and questionnaires. The study established that integration of ICT services in adult centers is still facing numerous challenges which are evident by the poor use of e-consumer services by the adult learners.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79527373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was administrated with the self-efficacy scale developed by Schwarzer, R., & Jerusalem, M. (1993) and the readiness for self–directed learning scale developed by Fisher et al. (2001, 2010). The total number of students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City was 12,540 students (according to the second term of the academic year 2020–2021). This study’s sample was calculated with the formula developed by Watson (2001). With a confidence level of 95% and a variable value of 50%, in the results table of Watson's sample size for a total population of 10,000 to 15,000 people, the sample size for this study ranged from 385 to 390 people. The official sample of 395 students was suitable, which could represent the total population according to Watson (2001). Research results showed that the level of self-efficacy and readiness for self–directed learning among students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City was at an intermediate level. In particular, the results indicated that there was a difference between different academic–year students and readiness for self–directed learning. Research results implied that there was a close correlation between self-efficacy and readiness for self–directed learning in students.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82208574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the introversion-extroversion personality characteristics, the present study sought to determine who performs better in science subjects between introverts and extroverts, and demonstrate these relationships by gender. The assumption was that while science classrooms require a great deal of interaction among the learners, these contrasting dimensions of personality trait could be reflected in classrooms and bear some implications on students’ learning and achievement. We employed a modified Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) to identify students’ personality (N=345) along introversion-extroversion scale and correlated these with their academic performance obtained from their National Form Two (Grade 9) Exam which is considered of high quality and standard. A comparison within sex revealed that introvert girls performed significantly better than extrovert girls whereas extrovert boys performed significantly better than introvert boys. When a comparison was made between sexes, it was revealed that extrovert boys had significantly higher grades compared to extrovert girls while introvert girls had significantly higher grades compared to introvert boys. Overall then, the study revealed a statistically significant correspondence of higher grades with introvert girls and extrovert boys, and lower grades with extrovert girls and introvert boys. The study implications and suggestions are made to inform instruction, guidance, and intervention.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77738559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The course utilizes digital educational content and Open Educational Resources (OERs) and focuses on the interaction, peer support, and peer teaching into an online learning environment. In the design framework of the course, we investigated the educational needs of teachers and took into consideration the findings of other studies. A total of 251 teachers were enrolled in the online distance learning course and 142 completed it. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected in November 2020 through the bio-STEBI-A instrument and the posts in the forums of the course. The quantitative results revealed an improvement in both subscales of bio-STEBI-A, which were also confirmed by the qualitative ones, that underline the course, thus contributing to the improvement of self-efficacy beliefs of in-service elementary school teachers in teaching biological concepts. Recommendations are made for future research.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79481453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Industrialised countries swung into action by applying technology to monitor COVID-19 cases while accentuating research and development (R&D) activities to develop COVID-19 vaccines and drugs. However, Nigeria has not significantly contributed to global research efforts aimed at addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic. This paper applied a case study approach and situational analysis to examine the state of R&D in Nigeria relative to other economies. The paper goes on to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on Nigeria's health sector and the economy at large while emphasising the imperativeness of R&D in effectively handling future outbreaks and, thus, achieving economic and technological catch-up. This study revealed that Nigeria remains a laggard in R&D spending as well as R&D activities, particularly in the health sector as exposed by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This further reinforces the imperative for Nigeria to significantly and urgently increase its R&D spending not only to combat subsequent health challenges but also to facilitate rapid structural transformation and economic development.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45079989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After unpacking key thinking around openness and its attendant values, we explore the adoption of open government practices in innovation by considering four instruments: the opening of innovation and technology policy processes, co-creation and collaborative solution development by civil servants, government entities acting as innovation brokers, and public sector procurement of innovation. Through a case study of South Africa, we highlight how innovation actors prioritise particular values of openness over others, oftentimes at the expense of legality and impartiality. This oversight leads to project failures, legitimacy crises and exploitation of openness by more powerful entities. In response, we suggest that public sector innovation programs and platforms can more explicitly recognise and balance different values through appropriate institutional forms and legislation, and thereby enable sustainable application of open government practices.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49011964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We designed the citation index of research equipment in order to improve the efficiency of our research support services, and to reflect the needs of the consumers and the demand agencies. In this paper, we discuss and present the results of an analysis on the citation index of research equipment. We find that according to the choice and focus of R&D, it is more efficient to expand the research equipment with the upper 20% of the demand and reduce the lower 80% of the demand. We are certain that the findings will improve the efficiency of the research equipment analysis services that reflect the needs of the demand agencies. We are also hoping that the findings will contribute greatly to the study, as well as the establishment of scientific and technical policies, regarding the support of public policies and services.","PeriodicalId":38847,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47128192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
