Each method was tested with various parameters and the results were analyzed. In addition, with this study, the recognizability of handwritten numeral datasets created using different alphabets was also observed. For experiments, an Arabic alphabet handwritten digit dataset (60,000 training and 10,000 testings) and a Latin alphabet handwritten digit dataset (60,000 training and 10,000 testings) were used. When the results of the experiment are examined, it is seen that successful results are obtained in the classification made with the MADBase dataset in some methods and in the classification made with the MNIST dataset in some methods. As a result, it can be stated that the handwriting character recognition success of a method cannot be measured only by the classification made on a dataset. Also, the digits written in the Arabic alphabet appear to be almost more recognizable than the digits written in the Latin alphabet.","PeriodicalId":388003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Studies in Science and Engineering","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128590999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Daylight in architecture satisfies both mental and physical human needs and reduces fossil energy consumption. This paper appraised the use of daylighting in sustainable housing development in developing countries and discussed the benefits of natural/daylight in housing designs, including the reasons for the sudden disapproval of daylighting in contemporary designs. The study employed a literature review technique, appraisal of case studies of selected daylight-driven buildings and personal observations. Findings revealed that building occupants now prefer daylight for both illumination and environmental stimulations because lack of daylight results in discomfort and stress and affects the psychological and physiological health of building occupants. The study concluded that architects in developing countries should embrace daylighting in their designs due to its numerous benefits in making them sustainable. The study recommended the inclusion of daylighting requirements in all architectural designs by planning authorities in developing countries.","PeriodicalId":388003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Studies in Science and Engineering","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128905343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This vast set of phenolic plant elements can be split into numerous classes based on their diverse structures, including Flavanones, Flavanols, Flavonols, Flavones, Isoflavones, and Anthocyanins. Interestingly, they possess various applications such as natural dyes, medicinal uses, and food sources. Flavonoids have been shown to have anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties in clinical studies. They also have cardio-protective and neuroprotective effects. In addition, they are responsible for the presence of different colors and flavors in various fruits, flowers, and food sources. Multiple spectroscopic techniques, including Infrared spectroscopy (IR), Ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV), and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, are being used to identify the structure of flavonoids. UV-Vis spectroscopy data can be used to estimate the position, type, and number of substituents present in a conjugated system. IR spectroscopy is primarily used to determine the type of functional groups and aromatic ring substitutions. The structure of Flavonoids, their type, number of protons, and carbons can be determined by NMR spectroscopy. The current review was based on searches of the Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases for literature reviews. The purpose of this review article is to demonstrate the structure, function, and different extraction methods of flavonoids. It also summarizes the isolation and analytical identification techniques for flavonoids.","PeriodicalId":388003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Studies in Science and Engineering","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123606354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional methods available for machining these materials have many flaws due to which their application on large scale is restricted. A non-conventional process known as ultrasonic machining (USM), can be implemented for machining of these materials effectively. Anyhow machining efficiency of USM greatly depends upon its horn design and therefore in the present study a horn based on a catenoidal profile with aluminum and titanium material for USM was designed and developed by using solid works and ANSYS. Modal and harmonic analysis was done on the horn for computation of various parameters of interest such as resonant frequency, amplitude vibration and equivalent stresses. After the computation of the results, they were analyzed and compared with those available in the literature in terms of stresses and magnification factor for their validation comparison with literature, it was found that an aluminum catenoidal horn shows higher magnification with the least stress magnitude as compared to horns avail-able in the literature and hence can be used in USM as a replacement for existing horns.","PeriodicalId":388003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Studies in Science and Engineering","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128599395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Green building design is concerned with constructing a building in such a way that its carbon footprint is reduced throughout its life span. Lecture rooms are key components of educational institutions because they are where students spend the majority of their time. This study aims to propose a methodology to convert the existing designs of building to green buildings by optimizing the airflow. The lecture room at UET was chosen for this investigation because the air velocity distribution inside the room is not uniform due to the current design, which influences the convective heat loss from the room by creating pressure and temperature gradient. SOLIDWORKS 2021 was used to create the model of a lecture theatre. Because the majority of the rooms are naturally ventilated, a fluid dynamics analysis was performed on ANSYS Fluent 19.1 to ensure proper air ventilation. Natural airflow was improved by the addition of an extra column of windows. The total electric energy load has been computed, and the quantity of solar panels necessary to meet the demand has been recommended.","PeriodicalId":388003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Studies in Science and Engineering","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114328988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most basic step in the OCR process is character recognition. The Arabic language is more complex than other alphabets, as the cursive is written in cursive and the characters have different spellings. Our research has improved a character recognition model for Arabic texts with 28 different characters. Character recognition was performed using Convolutional Neural Network models, which are accepted as effective in image processing and recognition. Three different CNN models have been proposed. In the study, training and testing of the models were carried out using the Hijja data set.
